Scheafer on Fitzpatrick's Resignation
Costa Mesa Sanitary District Director Mike Scheafer has signed in with an opinion on Jim Fitzpatrick's decision to resign his seat on that board in a commentary in the Daily Pilot, HERE.
IMPECCABLE CREDENTIALS
Scheafer, a nearly life-long activist in Costa Mesa, is a former member of the City Council and the Parks and Recreation Commission. Over the years he, among other things, has been the President of the Lions Club and a driving force behind the Fish Fry; President of the Board of the Costa Mesa Senior Center and is currently the Chairman of the 60th Anniversary Celebration Committee.

I have a lot of respect for Director Scheafer and he speaks nothing but the truth in his well stated commentary regarding Fitzpatrick's resignation. I hope the residents will pass his message around because Fitzpatrick manages to get front page coverage through his friends at the local news.
Good for Mr. Scheafer to respond to Mr. Fitzpatricks same old song and dance. Most people are for the side of truth and that falls opposite of where Mr. Fitzpatrick likes to spend his time. He always makes himself the victim and begs for people to believe him by throwing out lies and false facts.
Mike Sheafer definitely donates a good amount of time to the community and should be commended for that. But his actions, and the actions of the rest of the Board except Ooten, to use ratepayer monies to go after Fitzpatrick were wrong. Arlene Shafer or another private person should have been the party to bring this up. Ooten agreed that ratepayer monies should not be used for actions against Fitzpatrick. But the grudges, and Perry said it was personal, of the other Board members against Fitzpatrick should not have evolved to them using our monies to have a grudge settled. Yes, Fitzpatrick can be a pain, but he also was a much needed infusion of new thinking to that Board. Now they will appoint their good friend Arlene. No one knows if the offices were incompatible. And we don't know, and apparently won't know, if putting the trash contract out to bid would save us money. The Board members are beholden to the current provider by way of gifts, money, and campaign help. It appears that Board groupie "sk" feels she is the expert on both issues. She is not. Nor Leece, Fuqua, me, or you. The waste of ratepayer monies by the Board is a done deal, no use looking backward. Much like the city council use of lawyers. Move forward: appoint the next highest vote getter, Don Harper, and put the trash contract out to bid and settle the matter on that.

I don't expect them to appoint the next highest vote getter. I don't think that is the way should work or will work. It was mentioned because of the outcry against council by a minority element of do gooders that McEvoy should have been appointed because he was the next highest recipient of votes. Many of those who called for this support the good ol boys on Sanitary District. If San does not appoint Harper, fine. But let's end the calls for appointing the next hishest vote getter. I doubt the same council critics would criticize the SD Board for doing what council did. Hypocrits. hey sk! sorry, not using my name. All it does is invite fuqua, black, clarise, alf, and you to start a personal vendetta. Also, pick up a phone and talk to each other, no need to go back and forth in Pilot comments: "well said" then "you are so right" then another one "couldn't have said it better" back and forth. yuck. btw, GM of Sanitary says contract should be bid out also.

Something fishy: I don't see anyone proclaiming to be an expert on anything...except Fitzpatrick, who seems to think he's an expert on everything.
I'm fine with ratepayer money straightening out this mess. It is this city government that allowed the situation and therefore should be ratepayer money to fix it. Hopefully, that way, the rate payers will pay a little more attention to who is appointed..over and over..to these positions.

Something fishy – When I first started working for the sanitary district I too thought the trash contract should be put out to bid, anyone would at first glance. I did a lot of research and learned all I could about trash disposal over the last nine years (still not saying I am an expert). There are many aspects to consider in going out for bid. For example, going out for bid is costly and the district will lose an important most favored status. There is so much to consider I can't cover it all. Also, it is my opinion the residents will not be happy with another hauler as they have become accustom to the single container service. I also believe the single container service is best for the environment and I believe long term trash reduction to the landfill will be best served by CR&R. I base my decision based on what I think is important. Other people, as you say the GM, have their own opinions about what is important and I respect their opinions as well. What I disagree with is the marketing by Fitzpatrick that he has uncovered some evil deed, when nothing of the sort exists, and his using that to deflect from his own misdeeds of holding the sanitary district and planning commission seats. All vendors with big contracts make campaign contributions and those were reported as required. Fitzpatrick , on the other hand, has cash loans listed on his campaign report.
SK, why do you think the board has not published a statement of rate payer benefit that supports their reasoning for all this? Why do you think they are refusing?

Dead wrong and lying again (as usual). The awesome, not to mention triumphant, CMSD Directors would never refuse to serve the rate payers; they are simply refusing to play games with YOU! It is not fun to get in the sand box with a 3 year old whiner having a tantrum cuz he doesn't get his way. The Directors, who honor the law, have far more important things to do (unlike unemployed people).

General Manager Scott Carroll is playing both sides against the middle, you ignoramus. He does want to keep his job you know. I’m sure he’ll be moving on to another position very soon. After that, they can bring in a person with more integrity. It will cost less money and will probably result in a better GM who actually looks out for his employees, not just himself.

Just Facts - I don't know I have not ask them, but to me it appears per the response from the customer survey and the way the elections turned out the majority of the residents are satisfied with the current trash hauler. It is only Fitzy's friends (or maybe all these post are Fitzy's)that believe his "the sky is falling" tactics. Still waiting for something fishy to reveal his true self...

The Fitzpatrick debacle has been hard on everyone...the other Board members as well as the employees, both past and present. I am most impressed that you stood your ground and boldly walked in the truth every single day. I know that reflects your outstanding character and resolve. I absolutely loved working for you at CMSD. You exemplify the qualities I admire and I know the Sanitary District is in good hands. Thank you for your years of service.
See that photograph above? I understand that Fitzpatrick has been seen around town recently with his foot in a walking cast. Now I certainly don't wish him any discomfort, but I can't help but smile when I think about his foot in a walking cast and that photograph.

Fishy not revealing his name here DEFINITELY makes him the real Jim Fitzpatrick. It’s so sad that he really believes he’s been pulling the wool over our eyes for so long. The smart EX-director whose only friend is a computer. The guy who can only express himself when he's in a room all alone on a computer. The guy who feels comfortable spending all day and all night sitting in front of an inanimate object called a computer. You wanna know why he likes computers so much? Because they don’t talk back! Or maybe it’s because it’s the only time he can win an argument. Either way, we know who Fishy is… he the loser with a bum foot!

i just got turned on to this site. what a welcome relief to find it, and thus, others who think like me. I absolutely love it that i am among like minded people rather than the sheeple of the ocgop. it is great to be able to put down Fitzpatrick, attribute everything written to him, and laugh at his injury. I could not admit to my acquaintences how i revel in pain and injury to people who think different than me (that would be repuglicans and ocgop). i knew it was normal, i just couldn't find other people to confirm it. thank you so much! also, that poor city employee who was offended by the signs and just wanted to not see them anymore was railroaded. i bet the repugs get joy out of his suffering. what is wrong with them. don't they have compasion for people who think differently? anyway, great to find this place, been reading back posts and it looks like maybe we can ruin fisler's life if we can coordinate just a little effort. How sweet would that be?

It now seems that she already outed herself earlier and I didn’t know that. I have no idea who the real "something fishy" is but it seems like there are several commenters here that are willing to jump to their own erroneous conclusions because of their hatred of some of our city leaders. I did enjoy reading her response with her perceptions of the SD details as she sees them.
Geoff, just look at what you are breeding here on your blog. Yep, there is definitely something fishy going on here. So, who did you goad into taking the rap for you Fitz? First and foremost, this sounds like another rendition of "Fitz was out of range for communications” therefore could not possibly have made any posts. Second, there seems to be inconsistency between the posts fishy made here. Some sound articulate and some do not. Third and perhaps most important, is the reference to Arlene. Fitz is the only person in town who believes those election results are still meaningful. Yes, Jimmy beat Arlene in that race however, that was a LONG time ago and I guarantee you, he will never experience victory again…at least not in a citywide election. He may still have a couple friends, but not many. He lives in a world of make believe. His fantasies about becoming a public official are delusional. People do not like the guy and it will NEVER happen again. One more thing that’s fishy…how come every time people bag on Fitzpatrick, some exasperated resident just happens to make a comment about cleaning up the blog?
