Mesa Verde Community, Inc. Candidate Forum Tonight

FIRST FORUM TONIGHT
Just a reminder that tonight our friends and neighbors from Mesa Verde Community, Inc., will host the first of several Costa Mesa City Council Candidate forums.  The event will be held at the Neighborhood Community Center, 1845 Park Avenue (Lions Park).  Doors open at 6:30 and the formal program is scheduled to run from 7:00 to 9:00.

FIRST CHANCE
This will be the first chance to hear all the candidates in one place at the same time responding to issues that are important to our city.  Here's a list of those candidates in the order in which they will appear on the ballot in November:

John Stephens
Harold Weitzberg
Sandra Genis
Colin McCarthy
Gary Monahan
Al Melone
Steve Mensinger
James Rader (Rader will NOT be at this forum and has withdrawn from the race)

See you there this evening.

A bit off topic, did anyone else get polled this morning, by a polling group asking questions, I would best describe as slightly....leading?

The poll asked questions regarding OC GOP, Moorlach & Rohrabacher, CM council elections, and Measure V.

Lies, damn lies, and semi-impirical statistical surveys.

I've heard reports of others being polled in the past couple days. Sounds like the OC GOP's favorite pollster, Adam Probolsky, is working hard this campaign season.

Yes. They also asked about No Bid trash contracts.

No way Perry and Ferryman stay in office.

We are voting for them. If we get another company, the price will most likely rise. The only one in favor if this is Fitzpatrick, and then, because he is friends with the other company.

Why would you want to change santitation providers when their rates are competitive and there is a 96-97% approval rating from CM residents of their services???? Because that company is not owned by your friend!!!
No bid trash contract is exactly what we'll get if the Righeimer "charter" passes, right after he takes over the sanitation department.

For those attending tonight, make sure to say hello to all the local homeless that will be milling around. Make sure to lock your car, and please be careful not to step in any poop, as it probably would be human.

In general, a good start to the series of candidates' forums. I'm curious if anyone else at the forum tonight caught skosh's (contemptuous) comment that the city wasn't being sued by the employees' association over outsourcing but over procedure! Perfect, perfect example of this cc union members' arrogant and malfeasant attitude that procedure, rules, laws, etc do not apply in the slightest to them. Unbelievable that he would sit up there and actually say that and with such an incredulous attitude and tone of voice as if the city employees were suing the city over something like what color the flowers in front of city hall are going to be!!

Disgusted Rep, remember last year, after Pham jumped from the roof, Monahan said to a reporter when asked why he didn't go to city hall, he said, "I hire and fire people every day."

How is that for arrogant and uncompassionate?

JW - do you think skosh's comment that unlike some people, his cc position is not a stepping stone to further his political career- he's not going anywhere, was aimed at Righeimer and McCarthy? Might there be a little dissention in the ranks?!?
He comes off as an angry little man who hates everyone!
