Happy Birthday To Me - Again

WHAT FIRE PERMIT!
Well, folks... Sunday is a BIG milestone for me - another birthday - and I'll be looking pretty much like that handsome fellow over there to the left - assuming we're able to get a fire permit for the cake. While this one is a major milestone, at my age, EVERY birthday is a milestone. :-)

GRACIAS, AMIGOS
...
Thanks to all of you for your words of encouragement - and for the words of amazement that I've actually made it this far. To those of you who write or call to tell me you like what you read here - thanks - keep those words of encouragement comin'. They make dealing with the ravages of advancing geezerdom much, much easier.

...OR NOT
And, to those who don't like what they read here.... well, to each his own. If the stuff you read here causes you heartburn, I have a great solution for you - just stop reading! Or, chomp a few Tums and keep on torturing yourself.. it's up to you.

IT'S "SING ALONG" TIME
I'm a very, very luck guy. I've have had a great life with a wonderful woman at my side for 44 years and a supportive family and tolerant friends.

Now, please help me celebrate my birthday by enjoying this little ditty from another kindred spirit. I'll be back with more important stuff soon. Enjoy...

I hope I do not become as angry as Geoff West as I age. If I do, I am counting on my friends to either prevent it or shoot me.

I think one issue is that Geoff does not have a friend. Does anyone else think Geoff was locked in a locker by the popular kids in high school? And is now exacting revenge?

Iin conclusion I bet Lobdell's salary that Geoff will suffer a one car funeral.

one car,
Thanks for your very kind, and predictable, comments. I'd be ticked off, too, if I had voted for Righeimer last fall. As I suggested, if you don't like what you read here just don't read it!

One Car....

sadly the bitterness you are displaying right now is a great indication just what kind of person you will be when you get older as well as who you are now.

Geoff, Happy Birthday! Enjoy your day. =)

Dear Geoff,

A very happy birthday to a great example of truth and fairness in journalism. Thank you for caring enough about the City of Costa Mesa, it's citizens and especially it's employees who serve our great city, to expose the wolves who mean harm. You are a true Shepherd! Have a great day - WE LOVE "A BUBBLING CAULDRON".

ooo - now I have extra motivation to get a certain Republican "bulldog lawyer" wrapped up for you in an OJ post for your birthday... though maybe it'll be a few days late if it's gonna be perfect. MORE AND MORE MATERIAL keeps surfacing...

Felices cumpleanos amigo, keep up the great work!

I too like Bubbling Cauldron. Geoff has done a great job of corraling all the Council Haters in one spot so you cam keep up on their latest thinking, or lack there of.

I also like the entertainment. It is like watching a Jerry Springer show.

Geoff, do you think you could get all your supporters to wear red hats at Wendy's little tea party?

I have recently thought that Geoff is more like the Red Hat Ladies than a republican.

Dear me, are you really THAT old? 7 decades of life!?! Ha, I'm not far behind ya, kiddo! Come March 16th of '12, I hit that magic number, too...God willing.
So, here's wishing you a happy birthday with your darling wife and all your good friends!

one car funeral: Count me as another one who thinks that the Pot Stirrer is angry. Noticed it long before the Righeimer thing heated up, too. You can see it in the way he chases people away instead of inviting their opinions. Kind of like ol' Mr. Wilson telling Dennis the Menace to get off his lawn.

Concerned Observer, maybe you've had too much birthday cake. The Pot Stirrer proudly proclaims these are his views - fairness has nothing to do with it. If he were fair, he'd admit he was wrong about Mensinger's business background, wrong about Righeimer wanting to take the city into bankruptcy and wrong about the city being a war zone because of the extra fireworks days, among other things he's been wrong about. At least he's honest about not being fair.

Maybe he's angry because he's wrong a lot.

I agree with a lot of you naysayers, but it seems to me that a man's birthday is not the time to point out his many faults. :-(

Geoff knows that I disagree with him most of the time, but I still wish him a very happy birthday (and I mean that sincerely)!

Age tends to make people very, very, cynical, which is what I perceive Geoff's problem to be.

We understand Geoff. Try to have a happy birthday anyway; in spite of yourself. :-) :-)

One car,
even though it would be easy money, I won't take your bet. First, because Geoff has lots of friends who really really like him, so it wouldn't be very sporting of me to take your money like that. Second, the timeline to a return on that investment is going to be way too long.

Geoff, Your friends wish you an especially Happy Birthday and we're looking forward to many Happy Returns. Keep stirrin that pot!

Vicki said: "Age tends to make people very, very, cynical, which is what I perceive Geoff's problem to be."

When I was a kid, I couldn't stand my father's negativity. He found something to dislike about everything and everybody. I vowed to never be like that when I got old.

Many decades later, I find to my dismay that my dad was on the right track; there's a lot to be cynical about. He was an arch Republican, an early member of the John Birch Society. But I think that even he would be aghast at what the Republican Party has turned into.

His favorite presidential candidate was conservative "Mr. Republican" Robert Taft. But Taft, like Sen. Bob Bennett of Utah, would now be drummed out of the Party for not being "conservative" enough.

How can one of any age not be cynical, at least about what the Republicans do?

How can one of any age not be cynical when the OC Party chairman Scott Baugh declares to Tea Partyers that CM is "ground zero"? The GOP used to be strong for local control.

Happy anniversary of the day of your birth, Geoff. May the right-wing extremists stop giving you ample cause to be cynical!

How dare you.

Thank you Tom Eagan for validating the assertion that Geoff West is an angry, old, cranky and cynical person who is most like Jerry Springer.

Time for both of you to go to the doctor for a check up. Then you can talk about impotant things like how often you have to get out of bed to take a leak. Rather than topics of local politics.

Entertaining when gadfly tells gadfly it is ok to be a cranky old man. It was ok for my father, ok for me. Glad the anathema genetic gene pool ends with Geoff West.

For that we can celebrate

Perfect. This thread makes the point this is a gathering place for the lunatic fringe of our City. The vocal minority. Geoff, you are only missing a couple people to make it a full house of tinfoil hat wearing followers.

Wendy Lecce pops in. Leader of a band that has a horn section like no other.

Gericult – all I can say is I can’t wait to see the Fair Board eliminate or diminish the horses, so we can all observe a mental breakdown sure to follow. The pawn is sure to fall soon.

Now if the brain dead Lafler, the daffy Sandy Genis or the umpalumpa Brennman would pop in to say hello we could definitely declare a full house, lights on, but no one’s home.

I hear Geoff drives a hot rod car. What do you think he is compensating for?

Michael,
Thanks... I'm glad you read, even if you don't always agree with me. As you can tell, this is a place where divergent view can be vetted.

Yes, I would prefer that everyone here used their own name, but also know that's not going to happen.

Again, thanks, and comment when you feel so moved.
