Costa Mesa Interim Recreation Manager Named

WOW!  DON'T BLINK!

Well, that didn't take long!  Bob Knapp "resigned" from his position as Recreation Manager on January 31st and yesterday, February 7th, the City of Costa Mesa announced the appointment of Penny Loomer, a 65-year-old retired Assistant City Manager from the City of Westminster, as an interim replacement for him.

10-GRAND A MONTH PART-TIMER
Loomer will begin this assignment on February 11, 2014,  and will work 30 hours a week at $76.90 per hour.  That's right at 10 grand a month for a part-time job.  You can read the information on the City web site HERE.  One presumes she will report directly to recently appointed Assistant Chief Executive Officer/Administrative Services Director, Tammy Letourneau.

NOW ON WESTMINSTER SCHOOL BOARD
According to a very recent article in the Orange County Register, HERE, Loomer has run for city council in Westminster several times beginning in 2006.  Each time she was defeated by young men of Vietnamese heritage.  However, she was appointed last month to the Westminster School Board when the incumbent resigned for family reasons.

WHAT ABOUT THE SENIOR CENTER?
I find myself wondering what part Loomer, a retiree, will play in the current drama going on with the Costa Mesa Senior Center.  Knapp was the staff liaison to that organization until he left.

Wow! Working for the 5th floor goons should really piss off the CM Tax-Tea Party folks, but it doesn't.

Why?

Ans. to hold'em accountable:
because the Tea Party has been co-opted. It ain't what it was supposed to be.

It's good to be connected, ya know what I mean?

I knew someone who knew someone that knew someone, (that someone would be me) who worked in the WSD for 30 years. Let's just hope things (she) have changed?

Costa Mesa - a city where people that can't get elected elsewhere come and either get elected or appointed to a really sweet, high-paying gig!

Geoff, I don't understand. So many of your choir complain about anti-union types decimating the middle class and yet a well paid female causes the city to be disparaged. How inconsistent.

Bruce,
Not my "choir", just people who stop in to read what's here. Really, do you think this an issue of a "well paid female"? Sorry, this just won't go anywhere, I'm sad to say.

Bruce, the issue isn't about a female being well paid, it's about overpaying city administrators. It's like saying that a concern about inadequate parking means that citizens don't like Fords.

Give a logical reason why a part time recreation manager should be paid so much, don't twist the argument into something it's not.
