A Busy Week Ahead For Costa Mesa

SO MANY MEETINGS, SO LITTLE TIME...
Next week is going to be a very busy one for those of us who attend important meetings in The City.  Monday through Thursday there will be at least one such meeting each day.  Here's a rundown of the meetings presently scheduled next week.

MONDAY, MAY 13, 2013

Joint Study Session
The City Council and Planning Commission will hold a joint study session beginning at 4:30 p.m. in Conference Room 1A to discuss their plans for the near future.

Planning Commission Meeting
At 6:00 p.m. the Planning Commission will hold its regular meeting in City Council Chambers.  You can read the agenda for that meeting HERE.  In addition to several development projects being considered, at the end of the agenda there is a proposal for MAJOR revisions of Title 20 (Property Maintenance) of the Municipal Code.  The intent is to expand the City's ability to define and abate public nuisances.  This is a HUGE deal that will likely mean significant code enforcement activities throughout the city if passed.  You can read that staff report HERE.

TUESDAY, MAY 14, 2013
Joint Study Session
The City Council and the Parks and Recreation Commission will hold a joint study session beginning at 4:30 p.m. in Conference Room 1A to discuss future plans

City Council Closed Session
At 6:00 p.m. the City Council will hold a special closed session meeting to discuss labor negotiations.  Since primary labor negotiator, CEO Tom Hatch, will be on vacation, it's unclear at this time how that meeting will proceed.  One might assume that Assistant CEO Rick Francis will carry that ball.

WEDNESDAY, MAY 15, 2013
Pension Oversight Committee
At 4:30, in Conference Room 1A, the recently-formed Pension Oversight Committee will hold a meeting beginning in Conference Room 1A.  You can read the agenda for that meeting HERE.

General Plan Workshop
There will be a workshop on the update of The City's General Plan in the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) beginning at 6:00 p.m. for any interested residents to attend.  There is no agenda yet posted.

THURSDAY, MAY 16, 2013
60th Anniversary Celebration Community Meeting
At 6:00 p.m. in City Council Chambers one of the best kept secrets will occur.  This is a community meeting to inform the public on the plans for the 60th Anniversary Celebration which kicks off the last weekend of June.  We expect to hear Public Affairs Manager Dan Joyce and Chairman of the 60th Anniversary Celebration Committee, Mike Scheafer, tell the community of all the good things that are presently scheduled for the kick-off and throughout the year.

Huge, indeed.
As John the Baptist was heard to remark one day in the wilderness... "Oh, Jesus!"

So Geoff, what do you think about the Public Nuisance Abatement Ordinance? I've been here just over 3 years and really would welcome this ordinance. Sounds like Costa Mesa getting down to business.
