NINE DECADES!
My wife and I just returned from a 90th birthday celebration for our friend - long-time Newport Beach resident, WWII bomber pilot, member of The Greatest Generation and local historian of note - George Grupe, shown here with his wife, Martha. Among the small group in attendance that was regaled by George's many stories was former Costa Mesa mayor Jack Hammett and other WWII heroes. So, I thought it is appropriate to provide you with a little lighter fare today.

A THIRST-QUENCHING SMILE

Filed under the "Lighten Up!" tab, a friend and loyal reader presented me with a gift yesterday - a six-pack of 8 ounce cans of Bubbling Cauldron orange soda that he found at
his local Fresh and Easy store. Just in time for Halloween!

AND MORE SMILES HERE
Also, here's a little link for you to a recent comic strip that seems somehow perfectly appropriate these days. Enjoy...

I saw "Sphinx" as MM, the author of the "other" blog and frequent troll here.. haha!

Sheesh, Goeff. You've been consistently anti-fascist and pro-labor, against bullying, against many of the finely laid plans of the OCGOP, and pro people over corporate interests. Then you even reference the writing of Mr. Prevatt and the excellent Liberal OC blog.

Dare we say you're sounding like a... LIBERAL?!

It's not too late GW- Turn to the Dark Side!

Joe sounds stuck in a philosophical flashback.. people aren't people they must be either liberal or conservative. If they be conservative he already knows he don't like them.

What other groups does Joe hold a prejudice against?

Me:
Carpetbaggers, bullies, city council members who don't attend council meetings, and mayors who ignore a city employee's death so they can sell more beer.

Have a nice day.

Terry, they both are doing great for 90! Heck, they're doing great for 70! :-) Jack was in rare form at our luncheon... quite a guy. But, nobody can tell stories like George.

A little odd? Just because I mixed a 90th birthday, some wonderfully-named Orange soda and included a link to a perfect cartoon? :-)

Re-reading it, I think you're right. However, we welcome all-comers here - almost. :-)

My bad for the thread. When Geoff brought out "Sphinx," I immediately thought of MM.

Congrats to Mr. Grupe!
