Julie Mercurio Bails Out
RUMORS CONFIRMED
As more than a few of you already know, sources tell me that City Council Candidate Julie Mercurio used her platform on the Costa Mesa Public Square to confirm recent rumors that she has withdrawn from the race.
CAN'T RAISE THE CASH
In her announcement she cites her inability to raise campaign funding in sufficient quantities to conduct an effective campaign. That's probably true - it costs a load of money to run a successful campaign, even it little old Costa Mesa. She told those who can read the CMPS that she doesn't hang out in the right social circles to generate enough campaign cash. Interesting, since I suspect there was plenty of cash to be had if those guys running the show really wanted her to stay in the race.
WAS PRESSURE INVOLVED TO HELP MANSOOR?
However, more than a few of us around town wonder if at least part of her decision came from pressure from the "powers-that-be" in town asking her to step aside to make former councilman Allan Mansoor's campaign less complicated. He's told us he's running again - a second bite of the apple. His first tour on the council resulted in a divided city, with Latinos, in particular, feeling unsupported by his regime.
LEADERSHIP? NAH!
Actually, that word - regime - may be too generous. It implies that he was the leader of a movement, but his leadership skills are so marginal that nobody would consider him the leader of anything. And, his tour in the State Assembly was a disaster, where he showed no leadership at all.
BYE-BYE!
So, we bid a fond adieu to Ms. Mercurio as a candidate. She may now return full time to her role as the High Priestess of the Costa Mesa Public Square, where only the anointed are permitted to participate and dissenting voices will continue to feel her wrath. Oh, yes... she closed her announcement with a recruitment plea - gotta run those CMPS numbers up no matter what!
WE'LL BE WATCHING
In the meantime, we get to watch her serve our city on the Parks & Recreation Commission - that high-visibility position to which she was recently appointed to raise her municipal image. We hope she takes her term seriously, even though it will likely be a short stint. Her term expires in February.

I'm sorry she's out. Even though I didn't plan on voting for her, the race would have been more fun and interesting with her in it.
Geoff it's just more of the charade and fraud pulled on the voters by Mercurio and her supporters. Remember how she first burst on the scene. Oh please help me. I don't know a thing about Costa Mesa and want to learn and be educated. Then shortly she was spearheading the campaign for the charter and pumping certain candidates. I hope people didn't buy into that charade.
Now it's the same thing with her dropping out of the council race. Everyone should know this isn't what they say. It's a strategy move because everyone knows you dilute the votes when you have 4 candidates from the same side running for 3 spots. The first very early fundraiser they themselves claimed it was a great success and over $8k was raised. Here is Mercurio's own post about it.
"Julie Mercurio The community showed up last night. Raised over $8K. I'm committed and ready. It's an honor to serve this city. What a night!" And this was just locals and not the money we could expect from developers and say CARE ambulance yet.
Well so much for being committed. Just be honest and tell the truth why you dropped out. I certainly don't want dishonest people in a position of power. 2 times now Mercurio has pulled a charade.
Remember McEvoy got very close with no money and he painted his own signs. Mercurio already raised in one event $8K. Please people expect more honesty from those running and holding office and not the charade we have seen.

Where is the 8 grand?
Exactly, Ken Nyqvist! Or can they just pay it forward?
WMC, I want to correct one item. Mercurio didn't make the comment about Care or developers. Her comments are within the quotation marks. Those were my comments that this was only locals and the big money hadn't even rolled in yet via Care and the developers. I should have separated the 2 comments better. But I want to make sure my comments and information are true and correct and not misunderstood.
I didn't think I could have less respect for her...but I was wrong. What about that long winded bullshit column in the Pilot how she pledges to work for families and she pledges to work for safety and she pledges blah, blah, blah. As we all thought then, the only ones she was really pledged to were Riggy amd the power elite. She proves it now as they tell her to jump (off the ballot) and she asks how high. Deplorable woman with no real character.
And honestly, Ramos is the weakest of their group from a political standpoint.
Breaking, understood. However, if the big money is coming from developers and CARE, my point is that it isn't being reported.
mesa verde madman...8 thousand bucks will buy a lot of meals and pay bills to keep the apartment electricity on while faux campaigning. Receipts please...I do remember Mercurio offering $100 Visa gift cards for the highest recruiting efforts by any CMPS member. One reason I pulled out of CMPS was that very recruitment effort.
These guys can count to two. Why count to three when all you need is two? Power is their whole game. Mansoor is not an easy win. Name recognition but about 50% negative. He doesn't want it real bad, they'll try to buy it for him anyway. Genis, Humphrey, Stephens is a possibility. Fight hard for what you want and you may get it.
Don't forget, you guys, that Ramos is still running.
Mansoor is like Monahan. They need the $1500 a month health coverage for their families. I remember hearing Righeimer claim he sits up there on the Dias for $900 and some benefits. He certainly doesn't claim his total compensation like they demand for city workers. $2400 dollars per month and that doesn't include any other benefits they may receive. I am not saying they don't deserve $2400. My point is they are hypocrites to say they only get $900 and some benefits when they demand total compensation be the number used when talking about employees. This is just another example of the total hypocrisy.
They are so afraid of Sandy. The false attacks are already starting. Sandy is being accused of basically the hightened mosquito problem in the area. She is our vector control representative. The comments are so sad and funny at the same time. The comments are Sandy does nothing, knows nothing and has stopped their attempts to better our parks. The issue raised was mosquitoes because of the riparian habitat water. This person named Jami claims Sandy used some excuse of birds to stop her attempt to remove plants from an area so now they can't put mosquito fish in the ponds because the plants block the access. Then this Folwer lady chimes with her snide remarks disparaging Sandy. This is where it gets so telling about these people. Some guy who has dealt with vector issues sets them straight. Issue 1) vegetation doesn't block access for fish to be released. So that was just a false claim. Issue 2) There is a state law where if nesting birds are present you can't remove the foliage. It's apparently another Fish and Game issue. Hmmmmm! So this proves not only does Sandy know a great deal about so many issues she may have saved the city from more trouble with Fish and Game. Oh it also shows the type of person this Jami is to try and make it look like Sandy had no reason other than some excuse of birds. Sandy is one of the most knowledgeable and research driven council members ever.
But wait it gets even better. I swear. See my next comment about this.
Comment cont. OK, then elected official Jim Fisler decides to jump in with his usual asinine comments. Fisler says fairy shrimp ponds gotta go, put a DG path on top of them. So let's forget the obvious asinine comment and focus on the fact that the vernal pools are not part of the riparian habitat that was being discussed. That spawns another asinine post by Doug Vogel. Mr Vogel then ridicules the Dept. of Fish and Game as the group that tried to bully the Mayor. He furthers states that they protected the vernal pools and now we have this current mosquito problem. I can't stop laughing my butt off at these ignorant people. I know I am sorry we shouldn't make fun of ignorant people. But when they speak as knowledgeable then all bets are off. This was all started by a guy asking who controls the riparian habitat ponds. Those are the ponds on the lower part of Faiview Park by the lower bird streets. It's been a while since I have been to the vernal pools but do they even have water after the drought. Is there even mud. Several years ago it was really dry there.
Just to recap. Sandy is very knowledgeable and may have saved us from a resident trying to push an activity that may have been illegal at that time. But instead of thanking Sandy this lady goes on the attack and makes false claims. Removal of foliage has window when nesting birds are present. Mosquito eating fish can be placed in ponds with heavy foliage and foliage doesn't block access to do so. Jim Fisler continues to make asinine comments as an elected official and a new asinine commenter hits the scene as Doug Vogel has appeared. Thank you to my friends for all the screen shots of this. I wouldn't have believed it had I not seen it for myself.
Consider the sources, BB. Jami Joanne Russell is a certifiable nutcase. Geoff has actually dedicated an entry to her and her moronic beliefs. Vogel also belongs in an institution, and Fowler might be the most annoying person on the planet. Wonder why the other lunatic Shannon Bales hasnt checked in with his lies?
Be advised that I did not call Jami JoAnne Russell a nut case. I leave that up to you all. To help with that decision just do a YouTube search of her name. Then okay one of the entries, like this one: https://youtu.be/vPQGEqdaNfE
Mansoor is a useless, washed-up, has-been that is trying to infect Costa Mesa once again, but this time the people are a lot wiser and not going to fall for the same old lies. He's really going to have to fight to get the votes and not just count on his crappy name recognition to get him elected.
KOO KOO FOR COCOA PUFFS, that one!
Interesting that you can still donate to her campaign on her Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/JulieMercurioCostaMesaCityCouncil2016/app/240496959313326/?ref=page_internal
I'm sure that is an oversight.......NOT!
