Fairview Park Committee Meets Wednesday

ONCE MORE...
The Costa Mesa Fairview Park Citizens Advisory Committee meets again on Wednesday, May 7, 2014 from 6 - 8 p.m. in the Victoria Room at the Costa Mesa Neighborhood Community Center, 1845 Park Avenue (Lions Park).  The agenda for that meeting is HERE.
ONE QUADRANT AT A TIME
Directed by Chairman Dr. Richard Mehren and Vice Chair Steve Smith, this group will continue assessing current and possible future uses for Fairview Park - described by many as Costa Mesa's "Jewel".  In past months they've been taking it one quadrant at a time, supported by staff reports based on their tentative plans.
 CHECK OUT THE MINUTES
The committee will review the minutes from their last meeting on April 2nd, HERE.  A quick peek at those minutes will give you a feeling for the tone of the questions and answers and the spirited discussions by members of the public, too.

SOUTHWEST QUADRANT
Next up is Old Business, the completion of the discussion of the Southwest Quadrant.  That report is HERE.  The committee will hear staff presentations on six (6) items identified at the last meeting and also invite public comments on each.  Those items are:
1 - Additional Picnic Structures
2 - Improve Information Kiosk
3 - Vernal Poll Preservation with Cables, Signage and Delineation
4 - Retain the elements of the Master Plan as it reads now
5 - Improve/Designate Bike Trails
6 - Plant Native Drought Resistant Plants (extend)

NORTHEAST QUADRANT
Next they will begin a discussion the Northeast Quadrant, HERE, focusing on the fifteen (15) items from their original list of 35 that may be appropriate for this quadrant.  Those items, shown on Attachment 4 of the staff report, are as follows.  The numbers are the sequence numbers from the original list.  That complete list can be viewed as Attachment 1:
2 - Dry land wildlife viewing area
9 - Soccer/Football Fields
10- Forest of Redwood trees
11 - Multi-use athletic fields
12 - Retain the elements of the Master Plan as it reads now
13 - Install a two-tier building that includes an interpretive center and terrace/viewing deck
17 - Basketball/Handball courts
21 - Trail exercise stations
23 - Roller hockey surface
25 - Improve/designate bike paths
27 - Lawn bowling/Boccie ball
29 - Dog Park
31 - Skate Park
33 - Nature Center - Bird watching platforms
34 - Archery area
35 - Marked running courses

 PUBLIC PARTICIPATION ENCOURAGED
As I mentioned, the public is invited to participate by offering questions on each item.  It will not surprise me if this meeting runs longer than the two hours scheduled.  See you there.
