Tony Capitelli On The Campaign Trail
LATEST PROPAGANDA
Over at Costa Mesa conservative propaganda YouTube headquarters, Costa Mesa Brief, we find a new video clip of announced City Council candidate Tony Capitelli speaking before a small group of Tom Pollitt's Tea Party faithful, HERE.
MOVE OVER, GEEZERS!
If you visit the site to hear Capitelli's thirty minute stump speech to this group you may find it interesting, as I did, that he makes a point to tell them that Repubicans need to attract more young people into the fold - while addressing a group that looked like it was 95% geezers like me! It made me smile.
POWERFUL PARTY CONNECTIONS
You may know that Capitelli works for Republican Congressman Dana Rohrabacher and that he and his lovely wife live in Costa Mesa. You may not know that he is Newport Beach Mayor Keith Curry's son-in-law.
SIZING UP HIS OPPOSITION
This event, which apparently occurred on November 21st, apparently was the first official campaign presentation since he announced his candidacy a couple months ago. He made oblique references to Mayor Jim Righeimer, who reportedly just announced his run for re-election according to a recent Daily Pilot article, and to Democrat Katrina Foley, who apparently is also running. He did NOT mention Lee Ramos, the soft-spoken Republican who announced his plan to run recently, but he made reference to the need to attract Latinos early in his speech.
THANKS TO OLD BARRY...
So, thanks to old Barry Friedland for posting this video on his site. There's no reason not to watch it as long as you understand that most of the stuff you'll find on Costa Mesa Brief is pure political propaganda for the current power elite in our city. By the way, Barry doesn't much like me referring to him as "Old Barry", but I've explained to him that it's actually a term of endearment - kind of like referring to your dog as "Old Shep". Get over it, Barry.

Smooth talker. Says little on issues of interest here, though: nothing on cops, Fairview park, variances granted for building, athletic fields, developement. Apparently pro-charter, and supportive of Righeimer's running roughshod over citizen preferences thereon. No specifics on the so-called "unfunded pension liability".
Strikes me as a pol whose basic philosophy is "Evil is bad."
Definitely more mayoral than Righeimer or Mensinger, though. Needs to be followed further, sez I.
I miss "slump in his chair" McCarthy for Council. Why did ocgop abandon him for Ramos? Apparently Ramos is not very popular among Fairgrounds people. We hear that Das Rigmarshal and Gauleiter Baugh want Riggy and Ramos to run, Capitelli to drop out.
McCarthy is unelectable, as shown in the last go-round. My guess is it's because he grins too much and his hairline is too close to his eyebrows. Ramos's advantage is that he is hispanic.
Capitelli reminds me much of Mansoor -- lots of show, not much dough. Though he seems less prone to getting his foot caught in his molars than Allan was -- he seems able to put "I agree wholeheartedly with you" across without actually saying "I agree wholeheartedly with you".
I.e., it says without saying, but does not go without saying: the essence of politics.
In the video, he uses one red-flag phrase that I always listen for, and that guarantees he won't get my vote.
Do tell the phrase Mr. Koken! Is it "honestly" or "no lie?" Whenever someone uses those phrases or similar ones, I think, "So it's a special event when you're being honest or not lying?"
