Employees Take Costa Mesa To Court - Again
CMCEA TRIES TO BLOCK JAIL OUTSOURCING
The City of Costa Mesa announced late this afternoon that the Costa Mesa City Employees Association (CMCEA) is scheduled to appear in California Superior Court tomorrow, Tuesday, June 4th, in an attempt to block the City's proposal to outsource the Jail Services operations. You can read the text of the City's announcement HERE.
ON THE AGENDA TOMORROW NIGHT
You will recall that I posted the City Council meeting agenda summary that included the item in which the outsourcing of the Jail operations to G4S will be considered. You can read the staff report on that issue HERE. This was to be considered very late on what is already a very, very packed agenda.
ASKING FOR A TEMPORARY RESTRAINING ORDER
According to Jennifer Muir of the Orange County Employee's Association, which represents the CMCEA in these legal matters, the purpose of the court date tomorrow is to request a Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) to keep the City from moving forward with the the Jail Outsourcing and, ultimately, to reinstate the Preliminary Injunction that they agreed to vacate earlier this year.
AS IF WE NEEDED MORE DRAMA TOMORROW!
This will add even more tension to a meeting guaranteed to be full of it, so to speak. As they say when they run they present the Costa Mesa Minute, "There's always something happening in Costa Mesa."

Go CMCEA. Anything that will make Righeimer's head spin is worth it. Righeimer needs to be stopped at every step, so that he will not be elected again and hopefully slip away to some other unsuspecting City.
Why the injunction was ever lifted is beyond me. Folks, you see what happens when the union ans employees try to play nice? They get screwed. How many times does a judge have to tell costa mesa that they cant outsource city jobs? ITS ILLEGAL!
Thanks to the taxyers and the never-ending sales tax revenue from south coast plaza, the scum councilmen can keep wasting our money with unnecessary legal fees to defend their illegal tactics to rid of hard working employees.
Im sure glad the lawsuit was never dropped. Id love to see the union gp after the city witb gloves off this time and really teach the city a lesson. Enough is enough. Stop wasting our tax money to Pigheimer! We shouldnt have to pay for you to further your political career!
For those employees who are sitting on the sidelines with their heads in the sand, its time to help your union help you. It wasnt too long ago that both employees and residents stood united to defeat the charter proposal. There will be another call to action soon.
These guys on the council will never stop trying to outsource your job and they will always put their interest before the residents.
A fun fact: Before Dec. 2010, this sort of thing didn’t happen in Costa Mesa.
Another fun fact: Before Dec. 2010, employees respected management, and management respected employees.
@Tom Egan
Is that about the same time Riggy took office?
Napoleon will not give up until he is exiled to Indio.
Mensy will be bullying and chest-bumping until he gets his way. Or a salaried job.
Monahan tells us he sees the future, but it looks like everyone else's shoulders..
Good news! We have successfully outsourced the position of mayor! Every other Tuesday, exercise guru Richard Simmons will stop by and read a rant written by the bosses in Newport Beach. Video will be blacked out; people will hardly notice a difference.
wow, these union thugs have got to go. how the hell can they tell us how to run our city? shirley there is a way to outsource and avoid layoffs. can't they give an inch? glad this happened before negotiations finalized. time to play some hardball, time to start some........even our old "retired" cheif, now chief in beverly hills has outsourced jailers and he is as big a lib as there is.
This will be the about 8th lawsuit. The City of CM has not won one of them, but will try once again. The attorneys, though, will try once again if the City Fathers want.
The millions spent on lawsuits could have been spent on police, storm drain improvements to keep home and businesses from being flooded, sports fields, Mayor's dinners/travel and pothole repairs.
I would expect most of the potholes could have been repaired even using intern attorneys at only hundreds of dollars per hour.
Kind of stuff just pisses off the residents even more. Other cities can outsource their jails, but we cannot. Now, the attorneys for the corrupt employees union will waste more of our tax money on a frivilous lawsuit. If you talk to most of our City employees, they do not agree with the underhanded tactics of Jenn Muir, Helen whatever her name is and ther other union thugs trying to destroy our City. Time for the residents to speak out against this abuse.

Its so apparent when camp Piggy supporters post something. Its camp piggy who is "stealing" money from the taxpayers, just like john moorlach wasted "stole" MILLIONS trying to take away sheriff pensions.
Moorlach lost and in the end, piggy will too. The ones who suffer are the residents of costa mesa who is suffering from increased crime, and why? Well folks, the scumbag councilmen would rather hire unnecessary executives and staff members who will go along with their political agenda.
Im sure there are a few dozen employees from the 5th floor and throughout city hall who sold their souls and back stabbed their fellow employees in the back who say they dont agree with their union, but in the end, they all need to know that had it been for the union, they would have all been unemployed and collecting welfare by now.
Thank you CMCEA and OCEA for fighting for our jobs and the residents well being. Heres something we can all do tonight: SHOW UP AT COUNCIL MEETING AND SUPPORT YOUR FELLOW EMPLOYEES.
Although the scumbag councilmen have demonstrated in past meetings that they dont what residents say, we can all still show up and show our support.
I would love to see some puppet employees on the 5th floor get on a mic and tell us how they hate the union and dont appreciate their union. We can all see who sold their souls and how low soneone will stoop to make a dollar. Not that we dont already know who you are...you guys make us sick when you show up to our meetings.
according to the press release, the jail was one of two areas the city was told they COULD outsource, the other being payroll services.
Keep it up, this one is a loser for the union. Go ahead, double down, see where it gets you with the people of CM.
Sorry Union Bosses. Judge took the side of Costa Mesa residents.
Union Boss Nick Bernadina is part of the 1% in terms of his income. He is the shot caller who is wasting all this money on law suits.
Lol...unions wasting money? How much has piggy spent on legal fees and unnecessary staff?
It aint over yet...
Fascinating - the council gets blamed for wasting money on legal fees, yet it is the union doing the suing.
In this case, the proposed activity is legal, authorized by statute, and will save the taxpayers millions. The ones taking money out our pockets are OCEA/CMCEA and $300,000 Nick Berardino.
Nice alternate reality you haters live in.
Keep it up.
We're back at this again? The city councilscum cannot outsource city jobs its illegal. Carpetbagger piggy keeps trying and keeps getting shot down. You're spreading your lies on the wrong venue "Haters".
