Happy Birthday, Old Cauldron...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, A BUBBLING CAULDRON...
Just a quickie (love that phrase) to let you know that today, November 1, 2012, is the sixth birthday of this blog on this host site.

IT'S BEEN FUN...
Yep, after more than 1,600 posts, an amazing 869,000 page views (and counting)  and way, way too many late nights since I began using this site on November 1, 2006, we will light a few candles to mark the day.  I don't know what those numbers mean to you, but they make me tired just reading them.  Today we'll take a deep breath before heading for the home stretch in this, the most rancorus, divisive and nasty local political season I can remember in almost 40 years living in Costa Mesa.

OR, YOU CAN...
You can read the first entry on this blog HERE, if you wish.  And, if you're really feeling masochistic, you can read the VERY first one - on my previous bargain basement blog host - from July 9, 2005 HERE.  Some things have changed, and others have remained the same.
THANKS...
Thanks to all of you who have become regular readers and to those of you who choose to participate by commenting on the things you read here - even those of you who submit some of those nasty, vile comments are appreciated.  They help me realize that I've stirred something in you.  My goal from the very beginning was to provoke more people to become involved in local issues.  I've accomplished that goal, for sure.  Now... onward and upward.

(In case you forgot why we're here)

I remember when West started this blog. He was not as angry back then. He woiuld complain that Millard would take his picture and then make fun of him. Now that is all West does. I looked back at how West once wrote and you can see that he was not as angry as he is now.

Sad - there just wasn't as much to be angry about six years ago. We didn't have Righeimer and his crew running rampant. Anger is a gift (that's a quote from Paul Ryan's favorite band, by the way). Rage on!

Sad Day.... There's a lot to be angry about since Righeimer came to town with his extreme right wing support. He appointed his hotheaded sidekick to a council position, zombified the mayor and called in a bunch of flying monkeys in the form of Fizzpatrick and the rest of his Shinola sucking ilk.
Cost the tax payers a couple million in wasted (ongoing) legal fees.
Damaged the capabilities of the police dept to protect everybody from crime.
So... angry? Hell yes!

As one of those who posts nasty, vile comments, I want to wish you a happy birthday. Keep up the good work, Geoff, and I'll keep posting nasty, vile comments as long as there is Righeimerism or Mansoorrhoidity in the city. I may be assassinated for singing off-key, but that's all that'll shut me up, and it is my firm belief that you are similarly committed. All Hallows day! May you see another hundred!

Geoff,
There might be more to celebrate real soon. Word from the Lincoln Club is that unless there's a miracle win next week, Riggy's done politically. His incompetence has damaged the brand.

Geoff,
Thank you for speaking the truth and reporting on our CM City Council meetings, candidate forums, community meetings, etc.
If there's an event in our city, you are there.
Thanks for your time, energy and effort to keep us informed!

John Stephens claims on his website that John and Ken Endorse The Top Three- Stephens, Weitzberg and Genis, and Say No on V (The Baugh/Righeimer Charter).

KFI strongly denied this. Stephens now claims that he was referring to another John and Ken. Do we really need a jerk like this on our Council?

Randall, if you actually READ the stuff you'd understand that "A" John and Ken DID endorse his candidacy... just not the notorious KFI John and Ken. And, to answer your question.. YES, indeed, we do need Stephens on our council - I'd take a truckload of "jerks" like him anyday over the buffoons that presently sit on those chairs (Wendy Leece excepted, of course).

Randall, when you assume, as the saying goes, it makes an ass out of you. Another old saying...read the fine print! If you make assumptions, they are YOUR assumptions, not someone else's.

Our John & Ken have a blog here in the OC, that ou apparently are not aware of. No one ever said it was KFI that endorsed anyone.

I agree with you if you mean a Jerk like Righeimer who got the KFI John and Ken all wound up when he went off as usual, without the facts and without reading the details? What a lying manipulator! I have to say John and Ken were too easily led, and too willingly manipulated. I'm a fan, too. I'm less of one today than I was last week.

Whatever doubt I had they totally erased, but not in the way Riggy intended. I'm disappointed in the guys. They like to get people outraged, that’s their game. However usually they are not so easily fooled. I asked John Stephens one simple question and then verified if he told me the truth. He did. That exposed Riggy as a mean-spirited, petty , power hungry buffoon desperate to pull down his opponents. Any candidates allied with him and his misbegotten charter gotta go.

I was for Genis because I already know she is a no BS straight shooter who will not lie or be beholden to anybody. I have no doubt that we need Stephens and Weitzberg too. I’ll join the chorus: Vote the top 3, no on V

Geoff - it has been an interesting six years as you injected your opinion and commentary into the political scene in Costa Mesa.

And it has been great to see how your blog has developed over these years. You have become a very talented blogger with your captured videos, graphics, and pictures.

Let's review where we have been as you have covered those many past years.

I remember you seemed to almost always back losers in our local political elections -- and then after finding yourself on the losing side, posted your remorse and found yourself eating crow on those several occasions. The Return To Reason compaign comes to mind. You even called your current champion on the council, Wendy Leece; a barnacle attached to Mayor Mansoor in her initial run for a council seat. Now you seem to love her.

Now you align yourself with the CM4RG group and the city unions. I hope there will be more crow in your future as you seem to have acquired a taste for it.

I believe most Costa Mesa voters will vote for Monahan, Mensinger, and McCarthy -- and vote YES on the Measure V.

Now the gang has taken to writing posts by stealing the "Just Wondering" name.

What idiots.

Fitzpatrick:
Stop kissing Riggy's butt, go home and fix your personal problems before it's too late.

Be a man. Tell the bosses your family is more important than their power grab. Use that degree your folks sacrificed so much to help you get.

It's not too late.

Priorities, it is way too late. Jim Fitzpatrick’s family deserves better. His daughters need a strong “man” to be their role model in life. Someone they can admire, respect and be proud of. A man who goes to work every day to build a good life for his family, a man who truly loves and supports them for who they are, a man who isn’t the laughing stock of the town.

If Kathy can find the strength to give him the boot, God be with her. She is an amazing woman and she deserves to be with a more dignified man.

Priorities,

You said: 'Now the gang has taken to writing posts by stealing the "Just Wondering" name.'

My mistake -- I didn't try to post under a name already taken. I see now that the name "Just Wondering" was already used here and it wasn't my intention to steal it. I didn't mean to distort or distract from the stated opinions of the person using the "Just Wondering" moniker. It turns out that I was Just Wondering when I wrote my comments.

Also, I am not a part of "the gang" but just a long time citizen that appreciates the current direction of the current council majority and think that the measure V should be approved.

I am sure many, if not most, of our voters will see the attempt of various Union entities to influence our votes by the injection of almost 1/2 million dollars to defeat our charter proposal and defeat council candidates that want to get our city back on track. They also are supporting three contenders that they believe will continue the gravy train they have enjoyed until now. Just look at the number of signs on our streets and the number of anti-V expensive mailings that end up in our mailboxes each day. Then we have issues of signs being removed and/or being destroyed by the union or city employees.

I, for one, do not let my opinions and subsequent votes be influenced by the slick signs and mailings that we have all been exposed to in this election. I think most of our voters in Costa Mesa will see through this excessive spending in their attempt to influence our elections.
