Infestation Alert!

Attention Costa Mesa Residents!

ORCHESTRATED OUTSIDE INTERFERENCE

It has come to my attention, HERE, that the spawn of the OC GOP, the Orange County Young Republicans, are planning a mass presence at the Costa Mesa City Council meeting tonight "supporting the Costa Mesa City Council as they look to take great strides to cut back on excessive government spending on pensions that have damaged state and local governments nationwide."

BLOCKING OUR RIGHT TO PARTICIPATE
So, that "support" will come in the form of hijacking seats in what will already be a crowded auditorium prohibiting actual real, concerned Costa Mesa residents (and voters) from finding a place to sit and hear the council deliberate important issues.  It seems somehow so appropriate that these misguided young lock-step lemmings will be wearing black shirts.

  AN INTERESTING TACTIC
This is a pretty interesting tactic on the part of the Republicans.  Since the council majority is obviously very tired of being criticized by concerned residents from the speaker's podium, I guess they figure they can block them from participation by packing the auditorium with their sycophants and keep the real, actual concerned residents from getting a seat.

ARRIVE EARLY
If you're planning to attend the meeting tonight that begins at 6:00 p.m., get there early if you want a seat.  If you want to speak about the Starbucks on 17th Street or any of the five Outsourcing RFPs that will be discussed you're probably going to have to arrive early to be sure of having a place to sit.

WE WILL REMEMBER
If you get to the meeting and find no seats available because many are occupied by intense young people in black shirts, please be sure to thank them for blocking you from participating in the governance process in our city.  You might remind them that this kind of action will cause many of us to Remember in November.

So the Righeimer Youth will be out in force? Why black- were they out of brown shirts down at Target?

Wow, they are so concerned about "outside" people influcing the meetings, yet have no problem stacking the deck with their guys. Hypocrites. This is a pretty sad last ditch attempt to fake support. Potemkin Village comes to mind here. It's going to read exactly as it is, propaganda.

Bryan Ward's wife (they live in Newport's The Castaways) and her friend in Newport's Dover Shores are sending emails to other "moms" to support the drive-thru as it would be "great". It could be... for them, since they live in Newport Beach! I wonder if they'd oppose it too if they were going to have 40 cars/30 mins, 6:00 a.m. - 11:00 p.m. seven days a week, fifty feet from their backyards and be impacted by cut-thru traffic?!

This will not stop the real, concerned citizens from listening and then lining up to speak. Maybe the seats will be taken, but there is plenty of aisle space for those who want to comment.

per my previous post - out of town influences? You mean like the Starbuck's drive-thru developer's wife (they live in Newport's The Castaways) and her friend (in Newport's Dover Shores) who are sending letters saying the drive-thru will be "great."
I think we should make The Castaways a "destination" (their word) area!! Great views of the harbor, safe (with a privacy gate, remember), no pesky cut-thru traffic, cleaner air, less noise, and they can keep out the Costa Mesans from illegally crossing their border ;)

"Potemkin villages or Potyomkin villages (Russian: Потёмкинские деревни) is an idiom based on an historical myth. According to the myth, there were fake settlements purportedly erected at the direction of Russian minister Grigory Potemkin in order to fool Empress Catherine II during her visit to Crimea in 1787. According to this story, Potemkin, who led the Crimean military campaign, had hollow facades of villages constructed along the desolate banks of the Dnieper River in order to impress the monarch and her entourage with the value of her new conquests, thus enhancing his standing in the empress' eyes."

Geoff,

Have you already forgetten your recent plea for civility?

Is your memory on the fritz?

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume that you have forgotten about the many, many meetings - some of you which you attended, all of which you wrote about - during past budget discussions which were packed with organized groups of union/association members and their families. As you obviously do not recall, they even passed out t-shirts. Try sitting in an audience full of cops and NOT donning an "I support public safety" t-shirt!

You certainly don't recall the out of town folks who packed the auditorium for the charter meetings or how they didn't even pretened to play nice with others.

If you did remember those meetings, you would have expressed your outrage at them for blocking our rights to participate, and would have known about the time-honored "interesting tactic," regularly employed by council opponents. Maybe you would have been able to tell us whose sycophants they were?

I have to give you the benefit of the doubt, right? Otherwise, the only explanation is that you, a long-time observer, blogger and former advocate for Costa Mesa, has turned into a malicious agent provocateur, fanning the flames, actively working to destroy any remaining goodwill.

This blog has become absolute absurdity. The TMZ of our fine little town. Nevermind the out of town union haters who constantly show up claiming they speak for the residents. Good for the Young Republicans. Glad to see more and more people speaking up and out against the hate mob mentality of the Cauldron and its merry band of followers. Here's a headline Mr. West--many of us residents do support our Council and the tough decisions they are making.

BillandJenn,
Welcome back! Thought you'd fallen off a cliff or something. No hate here, just questions and a few answers. Looks like we need to make a reservation for you (2?) at a re-education camp, to get your heads straight. Oh, wait - you've already been there!

I'm glad you're still reading the blog.. we're here to please. ;-)

"You certainly don't recall the out of town folks who packed the auditorium for the charter meetings or how they didn't even pretened to play nice with others." - Any actual evidence of this, or just taking Jim's word on things. One, two people, ok whatever, but this is a coordinated effort to look like there is more support in the community then their actually is. and the union members jobs and families were on the line, so that's why they packed the halls man. These guys are doing it to prove some philosophical (sp) point about their politics and how they think the world should be run. Two totally different things, so Geoff's tone is spot on.

And BillandJenn, we'll see come November how much support you really have. Jim and his cohorts turned this great town into a Hollywood nightmare, so therefore the TMZness of the actions of the council. They sure do have the IQ of some Hollywood starlets.

Any of those stuck-up little black shirt wearing nut-jobs try and get in my way and they'll get a flour shower. Nothing wrong or illegal with walking around with a big ass bag of flour.

they will be walking precicts too I suppose? That is uncalled for. Even though unions have called this ground zero they at least will not fund or participate in our election process. Is there a way to stop them or keep them out? We already had council members going to a city meeting unfairly, according to you they actually hijacked it too. The nerve of these opposing viewpoints wanting to be heard. Hopefully they will be as civil in speech and actions as we are. Can we get a lawyer to step forward and stop this in time please?
