Monahan's Gin Mill Burglarized!

MONAHAN'S BURGLAR SNATCHED-UP QUICKLY
In a press release just after 9 p.m. this evening the Costa Mesa Police Department announced that former Mayor Gary Monahan's business at the corner of Newport Boulevard and 20th Street was among at least three burglaries perpetrated by one individual.  The suspect, Connor Craig Schryver - a 24 year-old from Santa Ana - was arrested shortly thereafter and was transported to the Orange County Jail.

KUDOS
Kudos to the CMPD and the concerned citizens who facilitated the rapid apprehension of this guy.  His booking photo is shown below, just above the text of the Press Release.

CMPD PRESS RELEASE

On 4/22/12, at 0648 hours, CMPD officers were dispatched to a report of a male climbing down from the second story rooftop of Skosh Monahan’s restaurant and bar, located at 2000 Newport Bd.  Skosh Monahan’s is owned by City Councilmember Gary Monahan.  A witnessed observed the male carrying a stick and appeared to have been bleeding from his arm.

Within minutes, CMPD officers responded to the immediate area and did not locate the suspect.  Officers quickly established a perimeter around several blocks of the surrounding residential neighborhood.   While conducting a thorough search of Skosh Monahan’s, it was determined a commercial burglary occurred as officers located an exterior broken window and several damaged items inside the business.

As officers maintained a prolonged, coordinated search of several residential square blocks east of Newport Bd., a witness flagged down CMPD officers reporting a suspicious male jumping over fences in the 2000 block of Marian Av.  Officers quickly converged and observed a male running and jumping from residential rooftop to rooftop.  The suspect was subsequently detained and arrested without incident in the 2000 block of Orange Av.

The male, identified as Connor Craig Schryver, 24 years old from Santa Ana, was found carrying an approximate 18” decorative dagger tucked through the belt in his pants.  He was also carrying a large roll of rope wrapped over his shoulder, as well as several other miscellaneous small tools in his possession.  The decorative dagger was later identified as stolen from Skosh Monahan’s.  Schryver was found with an approximate 6” laceration on his left arm.

As a result of the preliminary investigation, Schryver is also suspected of committing a residential garage burglary in the 2000 block of Marian Av. and a vehicle burglary in the 2000 block of Orange Av.  It appeared Schryver fled Skosh Monahan’s prior to CMPD’s arrival and ran through several backyard throughout the residential neighborhood east of Orange Av. and south of 21st St. prior to being apprehended by CMPD officers.

A number of witnesses and victims, including Councilmember Monahan, assisted with CMPD’s preliminary investigation.  Schryver admitted to officers that he had been drinking alcohol throughout the previous evening and had also made incoherent statements indicating he had collected the stolen items to preserve his “survival.”  It appeared Schryver was unfamiliar with the area and was not purposely targeting Skosh Monahan’s or any of the other victims.

Schryver has been charged with three (3) counts of felony Burglary, one (1) count of felony Possession of Stolen Property, and one (1) count of felony Vandalism.  He was transported to Orange County Jail and is being held on $50,000 bail.

Way to go CMPD, I hope no one booked any overtime on this crime, investigation or transport. Then there would be a crime on a crime.

The Case of the Butt-Kissing Monkey

Geoff used a photo in a recent entry showing a monkey kissing a butt.

1) Little Jimmy Fitzpatrick got up in front of the Council and complained, saying city staff should not speak to Mr. West because of it;

2) Newly-forged tool Tom Johnson wrote about it in his recent hit piece on Mr. West;

3) "Colon" McCarthy is now highlighting it on the webpage for his OCGOP front group.

West must be doing something right. All of Costa Mesa's monkeys are up in arms er paws.

Costa Mesa Taxpayers - Many believe Geoff may be having emotional challenges that are mounting, longtime supporters of Geoff say he has become very strange, snapping pictures of random people in Counsel meetings and talking to himself more often then not.

Hahahahahaha!!!!

I’m addressing “Co-ordinated Talking Points” point #3. Poor Colin! Poor CmTax! They really sound desperate, and kind of crazy if what I read here is really what he wrote.

Please everyone; stop referring to them as typical of the GOP and stop thinking of their doctrine and the doctrine of certain council members as typical of GOP philosophy. Possibly lots of OCGOP money is being funneled into this group because of who is in power locally (their written material claims non-partisanship). What you may not know is how close Scott Baugh came to losing his position at the last OCGOP election. Out of 54 delegates voting, 23 voted for Tim Whitaker, a really good guy and good Republican. 19 of the members voting for Baugh had ex-officio status and didn’t have to be present for a vote because they hold a political office. Tim started late, ran about a 2-week campaign, had no career politicians backing him and still got 43% of the vote. He clearly won among the rank and file GOP delegates.

Many staunch GOP members don’t recognize CmTax and their ilk’s strange slant on things as reflecting mainstream Republican thought at all. Local and National leaders of the GOP not aligned with these type groups are very aware that the Party is losing donating members and that many who have been loyal for years are switching to Independent or DTS (decline to state) registration. Nationwide there is talk of this odd element “Ruining the Brand”, and of special interest groups “Hijacking the Brand”.

I am not about to ditch my Grand Old Party, because from my philosophy it really was at one time. They seem to be having an identity crisis now, but I’m hanging in because I believe soon there will be a change.

I de-emphasize partisan politics in city issues, but since they seem to have been inserted here locally it seems critically important to differentiate the opinions of one faction from those of the whole party. Just so you know!

Skosh monahans seems to be a real blight on our community with all these crimes (remember the brick) maybe the planning commission should revoke Skosh's permits like they did to Garcia recycling because they were a blight.

Robin makes good points. Half a century ago, President Eisenhower, a true Republican and great American, warned us about people like Righeimer and his gang:

"If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power."

DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER, speech, Mar. 6, 1956

Okay, I am getting a little testy about this topic, I admit. The Costa Mesa councilmen, Mc
Carthy, and their political cronies are not synonymous with the GOP or even with the OCGOP. Maybe their little clique is trying to take over Costa Mesa politics, but the doctrine these guys practice is not typical GOP philosophy – as you well know, Geoff. Yeah, we all know who the supposed big powerbrokers in OC are. But their house of cards is looking a little shaky. Scott Baugh came pretty close to losing his position at the last OCGOP election. Baugh resisted an independent audit of the books for years, another thing that has alienated donors and weakened his support locally.

Many staunch GOP members don’t recognize Righeimer/Baugh and company’s strange slant on things as reflecting mainstream Republican thought at all. Local and National leaders of the GOP not aligned with these type groups are very aware that the Party is losing donating members and that many who have been loyal for years are switching to Independent or DTS (decline to state) registration. Nationwide there is talk of this odd element “Ruining the Brand”, and of special interest groups “Hijacking the Brand”.

talking points are the basis for a platform. everyone should have them, be able to spell them out and say why they are good. Your usual suspects and the councilwoman obviously have had coordinated talking points at many council meetings I have seen on my computer. Is there something wrong with people with opposing views to theirs having their own talking points is there? or should they be silenced, booed, heckled, "coughed" at, etc. when they speak? In case no one has noticed, the union contracts in city after city, state after state, are putting government in severe financial crisis causing a reduction in services that will get worse and worse. I am glad that councils across OC are addressing the issue. Pricing out services for privatization is a good move but has caused hysteria in your city. Most south county cities outsource most services with good results and financial flexibility. In NB we "just do it" and handle it. We are in worse financial shape than you with pension debt per capita but you are not far behind. Unions are in fear. That may result in better bargaining for the people who pay their salaries, let's hope so. Cities cannot afford to elect union backed candidates. Costa Mesa voters seem to have done a good job rejecting them so far.

Not so strange bedfellows...

Monahan wasn't the only one the cops had bring down to determine victim status...

Evidently a certain local congressman's campaign managing wife rents empty space above the bar...

Maybe now we know how Gary was able to ditch his last tow company business partners and having the new liquor license sans towing conflict of interest issued?

And also evidently Gary doesn't look any less red faced and glassy at 7am...
