Another Minute About The "Costa Mesa Minute"

SO FAR, SO GOOD
One day in and I'm REALLY liking this Costa Mesa Minute link over there on the right side of this page! It actually worked for the second day in a row.

HOMELESS TASK FORCE WORKSHOP TOMORROW
For exampl
e, today dapper Dane Bora tells us about the Homeless Task Force workshop being held at the Police Department Emergency Operations Center (EOC) tomorrow, Saturday, from 9:00 a.m. until noon. Now I don't have to write about that event, except to say that anyone seriously interested in what our city may end up doing about the homeless issue will probably find this community workshop a valuable resource.

BANNING RANCH THURSDAY

He also mentions the joint City Council, Planning Commission and Parks and Recreation Commission session planned for next Thursday, October 20th - also at the EOC from 4:30 -6:00 p.m. - in which major players in the Banning Ranch issue will make presentations. This is a HUGE issue for our city because of the impact ANY development will have on our Westside. It also resurrected the controversy about a bridge across the Santa Ana River at 19th Street. I'll write more about Banning Ranch later, but Dane's little blurb here today will get you thinking more about it right now. I suspect that EOC is going to be a very cozy place next Thursday afternoon.

WHAT DO YOU THINK?

I'm interested in what you think of this Costa Mesa Minute feature. Will you use it? Does it provide you with information you
can use? Are you having any trouble viewing it? I ask that one because the first time I ran it this morning it buffered a couple times before completing the run. I checked it a second time and it ran straight through. I suspect it's a problem of my computer trying to do too many things at once - darn overachieving machine! Anyhow, let me know what you think.

SMILES GUARANTEED

Because we all deserve a little chuckle now and then, and, in light of Dane's mention of the Dog Agility Competition at the Dog Park at TeWinkle Park this weekend, I thought I'd leave you with something that will almost certainly brighten your day. My sweet and patient wife - a serious ballroom dancer - sent me this link of a Golden Retriever doing the Merengue. I challenge you to watch it and NOT smile. Have a great weekend. Click HERE for the dancing dog.

Isn't that being "outsourced" ?

I guess we'll find out in a month or so. The RFP was distributed recently.

Actually, we are keeping the Costa Mesa Minute for its community value. But have decided to outsource Greg Ridge to Santa Ana where his comments are more appropriate.

Every e-briefing I get makes me vomit in my mouth. Now they're doing these worthless video briefings with employees who will soon be outsourced. Let me get this straight. This corrupt council who openly break laws every chance they get and then cry about being sued, has issued a ton of pink slips telling their employees they want to fire and outsource them, has their employees write reports on how and why they should be outsourced to save money. Then if they the employees report doesn't show a cost saving, they say it was done incorrectly and have them redo it. Hmm...

Then they make the employees who will soon be outsourced, get up in front of a camera and pitch their lies to the public or talk about useless topics.

Can Costa Mesa BE more of a joke?

Outsource the councilscum and stop destroying my city!!!!!

The video had a buffer problem for me too.

Original Max, I'll try to find out about that buffering problem next week. It's inconsistent on my computer - sometimes it buffers midway, sometimes it doesn't.

Dear must go. I am disappointed that Geoff West allows City Council to be subject to such disparaging comments that add no value. DP & OC Reg have eliminated such comments. This is the only place left for such Haters comments.

On the content of your comments they appear to be more relevant in Santa Ana. They seemed to have followed the logic suggested.

Its no surprise that Daily Pilot did what they did about comments, as $3,000 a week Lobdell used to work there and have buddies over there. With regards to the OC Register, try seem to bash union employees every chance they get. I wonder how many union employees throughout orange county subscribe to either paper. I wonder how many canceled.

@ "On the ridge..." and "Must go". You sound like the same person. and for the record, the correct spelling is "Destruction."

To the point of Mr. West's post here, while the "Minute" is a nice notion as are the ebriefing. However, when you control the message, it's propaganda not "transparency."

Typically I am bored or irritated when one of the Egan's speak.

But hearing the Mrs ask, "what is a funded liability?" Made me laugh.

Sad to think how many are so emotional about the issues in reality do not really understand them.

@Egan &Egan...I'm sure she understands the issue. The question was rhetorical and goes to demonstrate that your council is itself trying to whip up political emotion by using buzzwords like "unfunded liability" and using their ringers to explain them.

Mrs. Eagan's point is that if it's funded, it's not a liability.

We think Costa Mesa should join the events sweeping the nation, as advocated by Repair Costa Mesa.

We could occupy Skosh Monahan's.

This is big. Save a pint for me. See you there.

Whoever called themselves Egan & Egan... You may or any not have been able to accurately define "unfunded liability” in terms the average listener could relate to. Eleanor certainly can, Wendy stated it in a nutshell, I think even the Bever got it, but JR and SM say things that indicate they think it is a much different financial animal than it actually is.

You are too dense to recognize when someone is asking a question not because they need to know, but because the answer needs to come out for the public. Even if people are intelligent and have been following issues, not everyone knows what all the specialized jargon means. This particular unfunded liability has features that are unique, and Ms Egan solicited that information too, so thanks to her for a job well done. Eleanor is a typical attorney; she never asks a question she doesn’t know the answer to!

Must go, must go; On the ridge; unanimous and several others all read like the same guy to me. They have one thing in common. The posts ooze spite, bile and bitterness. If CM has an original hater, dude, you’re it!

The Ministry of Propaganda has spoken.....I think it's PATHETIC that people cannot speak their mind openly.

City employees cannot speak honestly without fear of retaliation by those with the power to do so.

When we sweep the first amendment under the carpet we are no better than a third world country.

Costa Mesa, used to be so good.
Now it's on par with STANTON.

i am unanimous and not related to the other people you think I am. It is just that we think alike and sick of all the vile comments like piggy, messy, city of bell, crooked council, etc. and decided to chime in. thanks for the tolerance !! and also, when the city decided to "price" services Ridge went ballistic and issued video claiming half of staff was laid off along with other lies in video. now they are "pricing" our in house video production team and he pipes in here that he thinks they are outsourced. He doesn't get it, never has, and occupies a dream world where it is all about his concerns, not taxpayers. Maybe whoever produced his lying videos can put in a bid.

The Riggspeak Minute for 10/16/11:

Long-time residents who care about Costa Mesa like West, the Egans, Ridge,Genis: stupid and bad.

Politician like Riggy who come to town to hurt it and get publicity are good. Bully like Menssy is good. Less police, more crime, less safety in city: Good.

Riggy go Washington, then move to Newport. Costa Mesa rot. All good. Bever, Monahan get reward, Lobdell too.

Best nobody speak council meeting except Riggy. He know best. He tell Gary and Bever lick his jackboots, Menssy smirk.

See you tomorrow.

An off topic observation. After watching the council majority and their fans continue to beat down public employees, with accusations of laziness, over compensated etc., with the counter claim that the private sector works much harder, has it so much tougher.

As I am writing this, I am watching a Dateline NBC program on service industry employees who put together clients to bilk them for more money. The show set up simple issues that are easy fixes, then see if the tradesman that comes out is honest and finds the simple answer or scams the customer. Surprise! They scammed the clients left and right.

From what I have been told by Riggy, Mensy, and their minions is that the private industry is the panacea that will save us all from evil public employees. I mean after all, when there is competition, you have to do it better and cheaper to get the client, right? Well, not if you scam the client apparently.

While the free market is the best system going, it's not without its own pitfalls.

From what I keep getting told, public employees are the only greedy ones out there.
