I think the video team at cm is top notch. However, like brad and dane know, they might as well kiss their jobs goodbye. I hear Brad was playing both sides as he's buddy buddys with thr council and somehow got in the employee union. We all know his role is on thr union board and members arent oblivious to him.

Sad truth is, council wants to and will cotract out anything and everything they can just to say they did. Unfortunately for Brad, this includes him too.

Unfortunately I couldnt make it, but heard it was a great tribute,a class production. Congrats and thanks to those who pulled it off.

I also heard that in a crowd of about 150 or so, when Riggy was introduced there was maybe a dozen people who lightly clapped for him. Looking forward to watching that..Some mandate you've got going there...wonder what his brother, the Illinois Peace Officer really thinks of his shennanigans? Would he want to be a cop in a city with Riggy on the council, demonizing him, threatening all he's worked for? Not valuing and listening to input, not seeking to build consensus, Compromising officer and community safety and thinking he knows all? I hope brotherly love looks past all these failures...maybe Jimbo was the bad son.

But we're expected to believe he loves his public safety people...total hypocrite...that kinda love makes me think one thing...et tu Brute?

Great now we can all watch Righeimer be a hypocrite and say how much he appreciates cops and firefighters over and over and over again.

Pigheimer is the epitome of a morally bankrupt individual. What he has done to our once great city is nothing short of criminal. When will people wake up to see him for who he really is. The OCGOP should be ashamed of themselves for supporting this scumbag. I am a proud Republican but I hate Pigheimer for what he has done to my hometown. We need to get rid of this guy. Voters need to remember to not vote for any of the incumbents except for Leece. Furthermore, no one should vote for the wanna-be piggys like mccarthy, fitzpatrick, dixon, etc from the planning commission.

Maybe Piggy just realized that MOST public safety folks are Republicans and decided, "oops, pissing them off isn't a great idea if I want their votes in my bid for Congress". Too late.
I won't vote for our current President, but whoever runs against Piggy get my vote and that of nearly everyone I know.

I agree with sgt pepper, our video crew is definitely top notch. We all like the work they produce but yes, its no secret brad is a part of camp riggy. Just like they have dan baker on the 5th floor, they have brad on the union board to report everything back to them. It is both sad and funny that he will probably be one of the first ones to go. Unfortunately, camp riggy is able to turn employees to sell their souls to go against their fellow workers.

i thought this article was about 9/11, can't you haters give it a rest for a day?
Pot Stirrer, where is the link to OJ blog? It disappeared.
Why no link to Republic of CM blog? It is a very good one, better than Leece's or many others you have links to.

So much stupidity in the comments on here. I guess in America, if you think public safety pensions are unustainable that makes you a pig, or hate police and fire. You guys just sound silly. I saw the video and the applause for Righeimer was the same as for the other speakers. Get over yourselves.

selfproclaimedexpert,
I link only to sites I find of interest. The Orange Juice Blog wore out its welcome with its 9/11/01 post. As to the other one, I have no intention of linking to a site that clearly has one goal - kissing the butts of the current Costa Mesa leadership by criticizing every one who criticizes them. Wonder who's picking up the tab for that bit of "PR"?

Me:

That's one of the big mysteries of 2011 Costa Mesa. Swaim and Lobdell used to be two of the best journalists in OC. Now one is on the council's payroll and the other started a blog criticizing everyone who criticizes the council.

My theory:

The 1956 movie "Invasion of the Body Snatchers"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Invasion_of_the_Body_Snatchers

was a PREDICTION. The fictional California town in the movie is actually present day Costa Mesa.

@self proclaimed

There's a war being fought at city hall. There will be no rest until the councilmen are gone. The "prisoners", as Messy likes to refer to our employees, may appear weak as they cannot strike, but they're working in the background against camp piggy.

Call me paranoid but I fear a prison riot if they keep pushing their "prisoners". I see they're paranoid, as they're spending $684,000 for a whole new 5th floor staff to defend their illegal Outsourcing scheme.

Shame on the councilmen, shame on Hatch and the employees like Baker and Long for selljng out their coworkers!

For the life of me, I can't figure out what took you so long to see that Vern Nelson is a genuine nut case. Linking to his blog was only an embarrassment to you and your readers. Thanks for your 'deep six' job.

Eventually you will discover that Greg Ridge is equally sick and disgusting. They are cut from the same piece of cloth. He too is an embarrassment to all of us.

There's One More,
The Orange Juice Blog, originally created by Art Pedroza, for years had a very specific SantaAnaCentric view. Occasionally they would branch out and deal with other cities. It morphed back and forth and produced some pretty interesting stuff - until Pedroza got into legal trouble with The LiberalOC Blog. He handed the Orange Juice off to Vern Nelson to run and it's been a little calmer - but not much - since then.

Vern crossed the line for me with his 9/11/01 tirade, so I told him so and de-linked him. Anyone who wants to read that blog can easily find it.

You may not like what Greg Ridge has to say, but unless he, too, leaps off the cliff he will be a welcome commenter here - just as you are.

On the other I believe Greg Ridge has jumped off the cliff so many times that he receives frequent flyer miles.

I find the Pot Belly's opinions better than Ridge's. But not by much.

OC Longhair once again gets it wrong.

A story is referenced about outsourcing that does not even prove that one instance is bad. But that is the news, that an outsourcing effort is questionable. How many stories could be written in the county about City, County & State workers?

The facts are that Costa Mesa and many other local and national cities are and have been outsourcing for a long time. Many many many instances, yet one questionable example is offered. The real sotyr is that it works just fine.

There will be a big story when Costa Mesa sends everyone back to work. No more 4 – 10’s or 9 – 80. Many will now work 8 hours for 5 days a week. The story is and will be all the whining that goes on. Fact, and fact here in our City.

I have witnessed so many complain, very emotionally about ABLE. Yet the City reports the HB Helicopter is on scene first 83% of the time. Fact, not emotion driven logic offered by Weathervane Wendy or the Unions. Read more here http://www.ci.costa-mesa.ca.us/docs/ebriefing/2011-09-16.pdf .

If I listen to many, Costa Mesa has the finest public safety. Yet the fact is these numbers make me absolutely sick about the disability scam that is plaguing our fine City. Oh, my my, these numbers are staggering. If this were a sports team, how could you say you have a good team in the face of these facts.

The facts, not emotion are “There are 74 open workers compensation claims filed by members of the Police Department, which has around 139 officers. The Fire Department, which had 83 employees as of February, has 59 open claims.” See entire story of the scam here http://www.ocregister.com/news/claims-317704-city-workers.html

More facts … Jack Wu in the Newport Beach Independent writes “In comparison, neighboring Costa Mesa has 110,146 residents with $262,531,311 in unfunded pension liability, which gives each resident a $2,383 share.
Link to full story with facts, not Union emotion here http://newportindy.com/2011/09/16/we%e2%80%99re-no-1/

More facts about Pension issue that is a mojor concern in Costa Mesa http://taxdollars.ocregister.com/2011/09/11/911-legacy-enormous-public-safety-pensions/96425/

So, it is with these relevant facts that I suggest OC Longhair get a haircut

Haircut...I'm going to have to fact check you on the HB helicopter comment. That is absolutely untrue. They are nearly never first on scene. If they are, it's a patrol check for some benign call that there was no ground officer available to respond to in the first place.

They often orbit the wrong location, and they have YET to find one suspect on a call. They have cleared calls and said there was nothing to be found. Only to have the officers on the ground find a suspect hiding in a secondary search. That is a fact. It is happening in both Newport and Costa Mesa. That "fact" was in the e-brief as you cite, however, no one from city hall has called the PD for those statistics. In fact that statistic is not tracked at CMPD, so it has to come from HB in their own log. If so, they are fibbing.

The service provided by HB is shoddy at best. I can assure you that sentiment will be unanimous from the people that receive it, not the suits at city hall who forced it upon us.

@Haircut-

"Disability scam?" Where's the scam? Canalis clearly states that our city's numbers are the same as other cities this size. Do you have any idea what those open claims are for?

Are you aware that any time an employee has a work place injury; including blood/needle exposures (very common for the safety people) that a claim has to be done. In fact a claim is made whether there is any further treatment or care needed. It is done simply to document the injury and mitigate any city liability down the road.

Of course Canalis cherry patches some of the more lame claims (and some are lame)simply to throw fire bombs. You and your ilk simply buy into it every time this stuff is written. No independent tought made, just blind allegiance to a flawed ideology.

I think you're picking on the wrong news guy. Jon Cassidy of the Register wrote the worker's comp article. John Canalis is the editor of the Pilot.

@haircut

This guy's writing, along with fake numbers, sure does remind me of the ultimate spinmeister. Yes, I'm talking about $3,000 a week Lobdell, soon to be $184,000 a year city employee Lobdell who will have a great benefits package AND a pension.

To quote e-briefings and/or any documents produced by the city is stupid. Their credibility is worse than a transient from Lion's park.

This city council and the people who support them and knowingly lie for them make me sick. And for what Hatch? Lobdell? Baker? Long? Young? A paycheck? I pity all of you.

Cop, excellent and typical. You just called the City CEO a liar. Cops always right, with plenty of backup. All others, wrong. Got it.

Other Mike “There are 74 open workers compensation claims filed by members of the Police Department”. So, you tell me. That looks like about a 50% claim rate, perhaps some have multiple claims. But you tell me how many of these are serious and legitimate? How many does that leave for frivolous? Are you willing to at least admit a level of “scam”?

The comparison to other Cities is getting old. Residents do not buy that anymore. We have seen how it has been fed to Union stooges, but we are not buying it anymore.

Seriously? Are you telling me that the reference article causes no pause for concern? At least we know where you are coming from. Provide backup to boys in blue, no matter what the facts. Got it.

Can’t wait to see their assessment of the RFP for Jails. I predict this will be a great example of how employees cannot participate in the process with any reliable value. We shall see

People think there's concern about work comp claims now? Just wait until all of the municipal employees join in with individual lawsuits for intentional infliction of emotional harm.

@the councilscum

You recklessly and needlessly issue 213 pinkslips without doing any research whatsoever. Even after a superior court judge tells you that you cannot outsource to the private sector, you continue to publicize the fact that you're moving full speed ahead on outsourcing to the private sector. You pay a spinmeister $3,000 a week to spin truths into lies in an attempt to further scare the employees.

It wasn't enough that you were responsible for taking Huy's life with the outsourcing scam, you continue to cause unnecessary physical and emotional pain to the remaining employees. For that, YOU must pay. I'm talking punitive damages and hopefully an attachment to you personal assets. You all need to learn a lesson.

Sure was fun destroying our city for your fantasy of running for higher office wasn't it? Newsflash bad combover Riggy, pet doggy Messy and midget sidekick skirt wearing brick thrower, NONE of you will EVER get into higher office. Your own party is getting sick if you scumbags!

Facts...

Yes, I am in fact calling the CEO a liar. What was published in that e-brief is patently false. At least with regard to the "service" our PD is getting from HB in terms of air support. It's a joke. And again, that sentiment is the same in Newport.

I can assure you that cops are not always right. That would be impossible, they are human.

City staff has a self serving interest to bill this service as a success. It's a sssuccess for HB, because the influx of cash from Costa Mesa and Newport pretty much saved their foundering air support unit.
