An Odd Tag Team Match On Friday

WHAT? WHO? WHERE?
In what may be the most under-publicized event of its kind in recent memory, the League of Women Voters of Orange County will host a panel discussion this Friday at noon on the subject of Costa Mesa's restructuring. According to the article in the Daily Pilot this morning, HERE, Mayor Pro Tem Jim Righeimer and Councilman Steve Mensinger will face the General Manager of the Orange County Employee's Association, Nick Berardino and their Public Relations representative, Jennifer Muir.

NO BOXING GLOVES PROVIDED
When I called to make my reservation I asked if the quartet would be fitted with boxing gloves, but was assured this would be a nice, civil discussion. Marquis of Queensberry rules will not apply. OK - if they say so.

RUMBLE AT COCO'S
Even more fun is the venue - Coco's Restaurant at Fashion Island, Newport Beach. How can I say this kindly... it's a place that caters to me - a geezer. I doubt very seriously we'll see many tattoos or body piercings on Friday and my silver hair will fit right in with most of the probable attendees.

I'M EXCITED!

I'm planning to attend and will report back later. I'm going to have the Newport Beach Police Department telephone number on speed dial, just in case this does turn out to be a slug fest. I'm grateful to the fine, concerned folks at the League of Women Voters of Orange County for holding this event.

I would love to attend this, except I will be at my JOB. Apparently something Righeimer and mensinger don't have. They both seem to have an awful lot of availability during the week days. No wonder they begrudge the city employees theirs.

Nice. Once again Jimmy and Company are going to NEWPORT BEACH to hold their event. Are they on the council in Newport Beach or Costa Mesa? How about bringing some of that business to Costa Mesa. Every little bit helps!

Hmmm.. why is it always Riggy and Mensinger who attend these events? What happened to our honorable mayor? Oh that's right- he runs a bar, posts drinking pictures on Facebook encouraging others to get drunk and party, and rarely knows what is going on in Costa Mesa. Take a look at his Facebook page- it is an open book. When Huy Pham died he had all kinds of comments that entire night about drinking and coming to his BAR/nasty dive to drink and get drunk. Funny, how those comments disappeared after it was revealed he never bothered 2 show @ City Hall. Two men representing Costa Mesa who have failed in the business world and have no experience how to run a successful company and I stress SUCCESSFUL company think they have the knowledge to run a city? They are moving people faster than you can see the wind out of the 5th floor of City Hall. They are trying to move employees who have morals and will not do their dirty work 2 other floors keeping those who will turn a blind eye to the incompetence. City Hall is now a mecca of chaos. From the 5th floor and it's backdoor deals (RDA for one example), to the Building Department which rumor has it.. has only one employee inspector and a half dozen part-time consultants with no experience. The Chief of Inspections walked out a week ago, another left for Brea and now the City of Costa Mesa is left with the mess. Is this what you want for your city???

mike, it's almost the weekend. why not relax, quit focusing on hating and smearing, and take care of your own shortcomings instead of worrying about other people's lives and how they live them? Teachers are not at jobs right now either, does that bother you?

Of 6 posts, two complaining about the venue, but at least pointing out the economic benefits of hosting this in Costa Mesa.

All the rest just personal attacks of various types.

No one wants to discuss the costs and benefits of outsourcing?

As a long time taxpayer, homeowner and resident of Costa Mesa, I am interested in getting the best value for my taxe dollars.

I am on record, and have told them personally, that I don't like the way this was handled. That does not mean I am not supportive of the analysis.

Should we be worried that the political motives will trump return on tax dollars invested? I think so, but calling council members corrupt or Nick Berardino slimy and smelly are hardly comments worth the space you have wasted on Geoff's blog.

My suggestion would be to stick to facts and communicate with those making these decisions.

And, before those of you that think the FACTS are being manipulated (by both sides), this is politics, don't complain, dig deeper and explain why you dispute the numbers.

According to "James Ward." Berardino's "slimy."

Berardino fought for his country in Vietnam while "Ward" was probably stuffing his face at Mickey D's.

Maybe Riggy/Menssy are happier in Newport because that's where they're moving to after Costa Mesa crashes.

Ah, Bruce, Mi Amigo,
Thanks for trying to protect my space. I'm actually proud of most of the 'discussions' that happen here. For the most part, comments tend to be passionate and credible. I know, because of the anonymity available through the use of pen names, that the true civility we hope for in face-to-face discussion will never happen. I get some solace that the threads here are not like those on the Register and, most recently, the Daily Pilot blogs.

It is, after all, just a playground for some, in which they will get much joy in tossing sand in other's faces and yelling epithets from behind a trash can. Such is life in the internet.

Guess I'm going to have start calling myself Mike 1 so I don't get confused with the 'new' Mike... but he's right!

Barewire, thanks for the timely lecture about hating and smearing. How good to hear you have changed your orientation...Or did you just run out of snide personal comments about Leece, Leffler, Genis etc.? Maybe there were no new talking points you could regurgitate tonight?
