New Police Chief To Be Introduced Today (Amended)
NEW POLICE CHIEF ANNOUNCEMENT PENDING
In a Press Release this morning, Interim Communication Director Bill Lobdell announced that City CEO Tom Hatch will introduce the new Costa Mesa Police Chief at a press conference today, Monday, July 11, 2011 at 3 p.m. Emergency Operations Center (EOC) at the Costa Mesa Police Headquarters. (This is a change from the original announcement.)
HUGE CHALLENGE AWAITING HIM
So, we all dangle while awaiting the name of the next man to take on this very difficult challenge. I say, "man" because there were three male names leaked last week as the finalists. Whomever accepts this job will have his hands full, with a demoralized department, apparently not trusted by the elected leadership of this city and with staff numbers not seen since the mid-1980s.
We'll see how this goes.

I do not even know what his name is yet but I have zero respect for him. This is a figure head position with no decision making authority. I have no respect for someone who would accept the job knowing that he had no ability to act independently of Jimmy. It is going to be a long uphill battle to earn the respect of the members of this department. So for now I will respect the position, but not the man.
CHANGE OF LOCATION:
COSTA MESA, CALIF.—City Chief Executive Officer Tom Hatch will introduce Costa Mesa’s new police chief at a press conference at 3 p.m. today in the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) at the Costa Mesa Police Department headquarters At 99 Fair Drive.
However, the police cheif himself will be in the same location....Riggy's back pocket.
I'm willing to hear him out before judging him. I do understand the apprehension, but that has only to do with the council majority and Hatch's position with them. Let's give this person a chance to succeed.
Waaa, waaa, waaa, bunch of babies crying before the Chief is even named. You hate him already. Pretty sad for you. Favor: if your are an officer "Rank and File" please leave the Department. We'd love to start fresh and its guys like you that bring everything down. This is an exciting day for the residents of Costa Mesa who've put up with the likes of Snowden, Shawkey and Hensley to get here. We're ready for some good leadership, not more blame game.
They should introduce him as the new "interim" police chief, because at this point every position in the city is an interim position.
OK fellow denizens of Costa Mesa. We have some closure to this saga. It is time to let our new chief Tom Gazsi settle in and show us what he can do.
Best wishes to you Tom in your new position. I am sure I am not alone in wishing you all the success in the world!
Gaszi? What happened guys. You all said Righeimer and Mensinger wanted Tim Starn. If this is all their decision, where is Starn??
This decision was clearly Tom Hatch's. Whether it succeeds or fails, it goes to Hatch, not to any of our Councilmembers. They can't take any credit, or any blame for this. Purely seems to be a City Manager decision. We'll have to see.
Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes!!!!!!!
I was just practicing Gaszi's first conversation as chief with righeimer. What you thought I was excited?
"but his name is difficult to spell and all and this makes it difficult to accept the change. I like the old ways we always had ....." (anticipated gripe from Leffler)
I can't recall Costa Mesa ever having a "proper" Chief of Police. Let's hope this man knows how to behave.
RickandJenn/H: Bite me.
