Union Chief Appointed To Fair Board

JUST WHEN I NEEDED A SMILE
Just when you think there's not going to be anything to provide you with a little chuckle, something pops up that puts a BIG smile on your face.

BERARDINO ON THE FAIR BOARD?!
For example, today it was announced that Orange County Employee's Association General Manager Nick Berardino has been appointed to the Board of Directors for the Orange County Fair and Event Center by Governor Jerry Brown.

OH, BOY!
To say that this appointment changes the political demographic on the Fair Board would be the understatement of
this new century in Orange County.

FAIR BOARD MEETINGS WILL BE FUN
With a smile on my face, I will say nothing more, except the Fair Board meetings have just become "must attend" events in the future. I also wonder what's going through the mind of Fair Board President David Ellis right about now. More smiles.

Disgusting! Corrupt thug union boss Nick Berardino on the Fair Board. Just goes to show you how much big labor owns Sacramento. I'm going to be sick. Berardino is the most corrupt union leader around. His $210,000 salary for continuing the union gravy train that is bankrupting OC and its cities should make everyone else ill. I don't like the other Fair Board members but this one is the worst! Maybe they all deserve each other.

Yah.. I am laughing! Good for Nick! He is the best thing to have happened to Orange County. Someone has to take the "big dogs" down a notch or two. Riggy and his Costa Bell pals are trying to ruin the City of Costa Mesa and now their backdoor deals with developers tied in to the Fairgrounds will not be able to proceed. Money and lots of it has exchanged hands with these GOP crooks.. and now it will stop!!

"...advance the rights and working conditions of regular workers" Wow! I haven't been quoted from the Communist Manifesto in some time. That's a new one for a Thursday afternoon. The Communists are alive and well in Costa Mesa. Joe must be friends with that Flores guy.

So the Governor appoints a guy who threatens violence against a local political leader, admits to "intercepting" City Councilmembers emails and who hires an audit firm to conduct a bogus audit where they find zero evidence of any "waste" I can only draw the same conclusion as Mr. Allen-- the unions really do run Sacramento. They say "jump", Jerry Brown says "how high" Very sad. Good news is that most people are onto this corrupt game of selling our State and City for union cash. It's why the good guys always win elections here and will continue to do so. Thank God!

Geoff,
The choice of Berardino for the Fair Board by the Governor speaks volumes. It tells me his office has its eye on our "fair" city.

Excellent, welcome news. Hopefully the AG has an investigation in progress.

Maybe we'll eventually find out what Monahan and Bever were promised.

If backdoor deals must stop in Costa Mesa, the next step will be SOCIALISM with the Castro brothers leading THUGS down Harbor Boulevard."

Huh? Riggy and the rest of the Council appointed Mensinger not Governor Brown!
Oh... You were talking about Berardino, not Menssy's airport incident a few years ago.
Sorry! ;>

Unions funnel tens of millions of dollars into Jerry Brown's election campaign, they get rewarded with sweetheart deals like outrageous prison guard contracts and plum political appointments. It's how our broken system of government works in CA. Pay to play. I'm not aware of any political payback for Righeimer, Monahan or Mensi--wait, isn't Mensi out of work and Monahan broke! Where's their plum GOP paeola. Oh, that only works for the union bosses.

If Nick Berardino isn't in jail for corruption within the next two years, I owe you all a Coke! That guy is so slimy.

Hopefully now we will be able to preserve our American agricultural heritage and culture along with the last remaining WWII SAAAB army base buildings. Fairgrounds are for horses and farm animals and special events, not Starbucks and condos or greedy and corrupt politicians.

I'm glad Ellis has changed his mind about auctioning the fairgrounds off to the highest bidder. However, I hope he stops trying to profit share it. It's self sustaining only because the profits it generates go back into the fairgrounds. Sending the profits anywhere else almost guarantees it gets commercialized like the hotel at the LA Fairgrounds (which Ellis has been a fan of). The fairgrounds should be more about community events than trying to be a commercial enterprise. That's what corporations are for, not government.

Joe, if the AG gets involved, I'd like to find out what was said in the phone call between Dick Ackerman and Jim Righeimer. That, and find out who the Costa Mesa official was that gave the "authorization" to sell? Jim Righeimer and Gary Monahan seemed most involved in the Sell The Fair to the highest bidder campaign. Bever didn't seem nearly as involved.

"Meet the new boss, same as the old boss."

Geoff, do you really think this changes the demographic of the Fair board? Eight Republicans and one Democrat? Any vote needs a simple majority.

That being said, it is a nice move by the Gov.

This is really interesting, considering I just heard that Nick is being investigated about the suicide of the city hall employee. Why would the gov want to appoint someone with his questionable background? I don't get it.

I keep asking the question, "What were Bever and Monahan promised?"
in the rhetorical sense, meaning-"What made them become enablers of Riggy and Menssy?"

Monahan's behavior is especially puzzling and illogical. A couple of points:
1) He's always been pro-Costa Mesa, yet he's joined with the other three in a series of actions that have hurt Costa Mesa;
2)In name he is the mayor, but he's openly abdicated his position to Righeimer;
3) His behavior on 3/17/11 was inconsistent with his past actions, regardless of whether he was "partying." He's been involved in city politics and business for MANY years, yet on this day he consciously decided to stay at his bar almost WALKING distance from city hall during a tragedy where a city worker DIED. Come on- people MILES away with less connection showed up. Theory: Riggy told him- "Stay at the bar, no problem, I've got it covered."

Anyway, Orig Max, I'm with you on a need to find out exactly what these guys have all been up to. The truth WILL out.

Joe, I agree about Monahan. He's normally pro Costa Mesa and wouldn't think about turning Costa Mesa into Irvine like Righeimer. It seems to me that it's Righeimer that has profoundly upset our council for the worse.

The only THUGS I know of in Costa Mesa are on the City Council.. Mensinger with his actions and Riggy with his mouth. They intimidate left and right.. backdoor deals.. even getting their friends hired as consultants.. They make any employees who disagree with their ideology disappear. Just heard the Executive Secretary to the City Council was dumped to another department because she wasn't a Riggy or Messinger follower..

just when I thought ol' Nick, the marine who fought in Vietnam in case you missed the ten thousand references to it this year, would be going the route of Nativo Lopez he gets resurrected. Unbelievable choice. Worst choice.

the developer paid for the bakery goods with his own money and not the taxpayers so I feel less guilty for eating the bear claw from him.
