Fairgrounds Battle Is Not Over Yet!
THE BEAT GOES ON...
The day following the announcement by the Acting Director of the State Department of General Services to Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger that all bids for the Orange County Fair and Events Center had been rejected, the beat goes on.
GENIS' NEWS CONFERENCE THIS MORNINGThis morning former Costa Mesa Mayor and professional land planner Sandra Genis, president of the Orange County Fairgrounds Preservation Society, held a news conference at the Fairgrounds to announce that, although this battle has been won, the war is far from over. Those who fought the good fight over the past nine months to keep the sale from happening cannot let down their guard now. The DGS has promised Governor Schwarzenegger that they will be moving "promptly" to find a better deal for the Fairgrounds.
DGS STILL ON A MISSION TO SELL THE FAIRGROUNDS
Currently unemployed Mayor Allan Mansoor is quoted today in an article in the Orange County Register that "it's not over." He's right. Nobody really knows quite what to expect now. The DGS is chartered by the governor to get the Fairgrounds sold. Their auction didn't work, so who knows what kind of a scheme they may try next?
NO TIME TO LET UP!
In the meantime, all those interesting diverse constituencies that banded together to fight the sale must remain vigilant. No celebrating yet - the game is still on.
FAIR BOARD TO CONSIDER SECURITY SYSTEM FOR BEAZLEY
The Fair Board will hold a meeting on Thursday, the 25th in which they will address the sale of the Fairgrounds. Of greater interest is the item listed below:
8. GOVERNANCE PROCESS
A. Installation and monthly service for security system at CEO’s home
BEAZLEY WORRIED ABOUT FAMILY'S SAFETY?
Yep, apparently Fair CEO Steve Beazley and his family have been harassed to the point where he's concerned about their safety so he's asking for the Fair Board to pay for a security service for his personal residence. Reports of really nasty posters appearing in his neighborhood have circulated for several months. I understand that there are a few people around town who are unhappy with the way Beazley does his job, but for that anger to manifest itself in threats to him and his family is absolutely unacceptable. This whole "Fairgrounds" issue has created some very strange circumstances...
"THE MOUTH" SLAMS MCEVOY
And, before I close tonight, I want to observe the knee-jerk reaction by The Mouth From Mesa North against former council candidate Chris McEvoy. McEvoy stood before the council last Tuesday and criticized The Mouth for his boorish behavior at the speaker's podium a few minutes earlier. He was critical of the name-calling The Mouth engaged in when he referred to Councilwoman Katrina Foley as a "grinning idiot". McEvoy was correct in his comments, but it brought down the wrath of The Mouth in his pathetic blog today. He's such a sad, unhappy man and a huge waste of an intellect. I'm still willing to pay for his bus ticket to Idaho...

This Fairgrounds issue is a soap opera and frustrating to all but for anyone to target Steve Beazley and his family is unacceptable. To those who are looking to do harm know that the Beazley's community will be watching their backs and will hold the violators to the fullest extent of the law. It is wrong to terrorize someones family and we will stand united against it.
Did you talk to Steve Beazley and actually see one of these" posters"?
Gericault, Nope, I have not seen one of the posters nor spoken with Beazley. Have you seen any? Will you share your opinion?
Yes some of us have seen the posters and talked with Steve. The content of the posters is not of value to share as it is a lie. His neighbors know the kind of person he is and will not patronize such garbage.
Steves Neighbors, it would be helpful for me to understand the severity of this problem if you could share the content of the posters. If you wish, please use the email address on my profile. I guarantee your anonymity.
First, I don't know Beazley. Second, I agree with Steve's Neighbors that any terrorist threats against him and/or his family are unacceptable.
Having said that, I would hope that before the fair board spends one dime of taxpayers' dollars on a perk for Beazley and his family, that a member of the Law Enforcement community responsible for his neighborhood's safety would be asked to address the board on the nature and severity of the threats as well as the effectiveness of any security measures the board is considering.
I just finished a half-hour telephone conversation with Steve Beazley. In a nutshell, this harassment has gone on since July. It began as bogus fliers on fake Sheriff's Department letterhead with Beazley's photograph distributed in his neighborhood alleging heinous crimes against children. 2 months ago another similar flier was distributed on fake Social Services Agency letterhead alleging child and spousal abuse. 90 days ago his house was egged and three weeks ago a vile of some kind of stinky fluid was smashed against his front door.
Obviously, this unacceptable behavior is escalating, which is apparently the reason for the item on the Fair Board agenda next week. Beazley says there will be a staff report posted soon on that agenda item which may answer more questions.
In my view, this whole series of actions should make anyone anxious and concerned for their family's safety. Police reports have been filed and, regardless who pays for it, a security system seems like a prudent step. I suspect I will disagree with Beazley on the broader issue of the Fairgrounds sale, but we didn't discuss that subject. While the sale has evoked heated passions throughout our community, this kind of behavior is absolutely unacceptable and is most likely the work of some whack-job with a personal grievance against Beazley. Personally, I hope the perpetrator is identified and that Beazley sues his pants off in civil court.
Best home security system I know of is a short-barreled Benelli and a box of high-base 6s.
Foley and McEvoy should have known better than to address Millard. The attention is exactly what he wants. This blog should ignore him, too, but it appears that the author cannot help himself.
Francine Dunlop, thanks for your opinion. However, both Foley and McEvoy - as well as this author - understand just what an insidious influence he is in this community. His stream of consciousness rants about making our city a "nicer" place are rooted in his deep-seated bias against anyone who is not white. "Nicer" in his lexicon means "whiter". Almost all of his "solutions" involve displacing, disenfranchising and generally disturbing the Latino population in this town - which he apparently views as the root of all evils here. I believe that the three of us - and many others, too - feel that there is a point at which you simply must stand up to bullies. If you have not read his online essays as published on the New Nation News website and other radical, right-wing sites you really have no clue about what's going on in his mind. You are, of course, welcome to your opinions and we're happy to provide you a place to present them - even if you are wrong.
I don't need you or your little blog to tell me what a monster Millard is. You write about him CONSTANTLY. Even when he has said nothing, you write about what his opinion might be. I may be wrong, but you are obsessed.
Gosh, Francine, if reading my "little blog" upsets you so much simply don't read it anymore. If you are a regular reader you have a pretty good idea of what to expect. If that bothers you, just stop. You'll be missed, but your state of mind might be calmer if you just avoid it. Thanks for your observation...
Now you're behaving like a child... You get a little criticism but instead of trying to have a constructive discussion, you make it my issue. Face it: Millard is in your head. He owns you. My last post - goodbye.
Francine, what "constructive discussion"? That would require both of us to receive as well as send... you are if full "send" mode. Adios..
I would like to know more about how he feels that this harassment is related to his position on the board.
As for Byron's suggestion, I would only add that appropriate training would be a really big plus for anyone looking at that option.
Bruce...
RE: Training. Absolutely!
I agree with Francine. You appear to have an unhealthy obsession with Mr. Millard and his family. Enough with the bigotry. Start tackling real problems.
"A Little Limerick For The Mouth From Mesa North Old Mensa Marty says he's a really smart man,Of course, he is his own number 1 fan,...But, despite the alleged size of his brain, ...He seems to enjoy inflicting pain On those less fortunate, like no one else can." -Geoff West 1/15/09
In costa mesa, Thanks for remembering the limerick. Seems to me that you and Francine both are obsessed with my alleged "obsession". You dwell on my occasional comments about The Mouth and probably miss the other content here on the blog. As I suggested to Francine, if my comments bother you so much please just stop reading. If you have constructive observations to make, please use this venue to do so. The choice is yours...
According to Francine Dunlop alias of course, "Face it: Millard is in your head. He owns you."
By your own logic blacks & latinos own millard. LOL he is obsessed.
