Monahan And The Mouth
MONAHAN REFERS READERS TO CM PRESS DRIVEL
In a recent post on his Facebook page Councilman Gary Monahan encourages his "friends" to read and heed an entry posted on the CM Press, the propaganda page for the fellow I refer to as The Mouth From Mesa North. His blog has long been the repository for his biased views of how he would like to see our city evolve - a lily-white bastion of intolerance. The Mouth was warning of potential terrorists attacks in rural areas of our country, quoting from a widely-circulated internet piece about a guy named Juval Aviv.

AUTHOR IS NOT WHAT HE SEEMS
I did a quick Google search on Juval Aviv, a shadowy character with an almost theatrical background. Turns out that he isn't quite what he presents himself to be and he's been discredited by many reliable news sources and government agencies. I also did an investigation of several people who wrote critically of him, to verify their own credentials. This article, foisted off by The Mouth as "truth" - as if he would know the truth - is far from it.
THE MOUTH - THE BRAINS BEHIND "IMPROVERS"
In the past I've referred to The Mouth as the brains behind the "improver" movement in our city - the movement that takes credit for the election of Allan Mansoor, Wendy Leece, Eric Bever and even Monahan. Of course, they also get the "credit" for the election of the perpetually inept Chris Steel - their first electoral "triumph".
EVIDENCE OF INFLUENCE IS CLEAR
I've been chided by "improvers" and their elected voices who deny having been influenced by The Mouth and his racist positions. Of course, the evidence is clear. Over the years several of them have quoted some of his drivel from the dais verbatim, for goodness sake.
PERPETUATING THE HOAX
And now we have Monahan, obviously a devoted follower of The Mouth's rants, referring his "Facebook friends" to this particular entry, which refers to a recently-circulated email hoax which The Mouth and many others have chosen to read and receive as gospel!
CM PRESS NOT A RELIABLE NEWS SOURCE
For those of you who read the CM Press and assume the information therein is reliable, well-researched news that you can believe, guess again! No matter how many yellow legal pads he flails around, no matter how much he huffs and puffs at the speaker's podium, he's just a frustrated windbag, full of venom and looking for a place to spew it. The Mouth has gotten lazy in recent months and has posted several entries about many internet-facilitated urban myths, including this current one. Gone are the days when he would take on a specific local issue and attempt to provide facts to support his opinions. Today he attempts to weave his racist and religious beliefs with articles with international relevance. He's certainly showing signs of losing his edge and is becoming increasingly irrelevant on municipal issues.
THINK FOR YOURSELVES
His supporters, and those of you who in league with his supporters - including local politicians - would be well advised to begin thinking for yourselves and not just take whatever The Mouth posts on his blog as informed views of issues. In most cases they are simply his twist of issues and many times do not include any verifiable facts.
DID MONAHAN VIOLATE CONFIDENTIALITY RULES?
By the way, it turns out Monahan may have violated confidentiality rules when he divulged plans for the city to make a lease-purchase offer for The Fairgrounds on the radio the last day of January. There have been no other public pronouncements on this scheme that I'm aware of and such a plan would certainly been discussed by the council in a closed session. I reported on that subject here on February 7th, including the video clip of Monahan on KOCI in which he talks about the lease/purchase. Once again, Monahan has demonstrated bad judgment to the detriment of the city, much as he did recently when he erected an illegal advertising sign and left it up for months despite notifications by city officials. He's more than willing to violate city rules when it suits him.
