Future of Fire Station #1 Meeting Tonight
IN CASE YOU FORGOT...
Just a friendly little reminder for you all...
STARTS AT 6:00 P.M.
Tonight, beginning at 6 p.m. and scheduled to run for an hour, officials from the Costa Mesa Public Works Department and the Fire Department will meet with residents to discuss the future of Fire Station #1. You can read the City announcement for the details HERE.
AT THE FIRE STATION
The meeting will be held at Fire Station #1, 2803 Royal Palm Drive. See the map below.
POSSIBLE FUNDING TO BE DISCUSSED TOMORROW
Of special interest is that tomorrow night, during the discussion of the proposals for a new library, community center and other improvements at Lions Park on New Business #1 at the City Council meeting, one of the funding options considers folding in the costs for a new Fire Station #1, even though it's miles away.
IS THIS REALLY THE BEST LOCATION?
And, one question I've not heard addressed is this: Is the current location the BEST location if we're going to build a brand new fire station? Considering that the Fire Department is, theoretically, going to implement a new deployment model that will include the closure of Fire Station #6 - our newest and most modern facility - should not consideration be given to finding a space for a new station north of the I-405 Freeway, to provide emergency response capability to that part of town in the event of a catastrophe that causes bridge failure? Just asking... Maybe we'll find out tonight.

1 Comments:
There will certainly be a need for fire stations north of the 405.
The 11 high rise buildings, as seen on the model in the vault, will call for the ability to get firefighters up 300 feet for the penthouses, that the Chinese investors money will build in the not to distant future. Hong Kong, Shanghai and Honolulu all have that flair.
I am not sure if I will shop at the new Mensinger Plaza though, since Harbor Blvd will be so congested up that way.
Watch out South Coast Plaza, Henry passed away, and the ever so unfaithful, want all your money.
