Undercard To Monday Night's Rumble(Updated)*

"IN THIS CORNER..."
We just received notice that, as an undercard of sorts to Monday evening's Feet To The Fire Charter Debate between Jim Righeimer and Katrina Foley, tomorrow - Saturday, October 13th - Troy Davis will host Orange County Employee Association Assistant General Manager Jennifer Muir and Daily Pilot columnist and Costa Mesa buttinski, Jack Wu in a discussion of Jim Righeimer's Charter.  Too bad this will be radio - Jennifer is a real hotty.  Wu, not so much.

SATURDAY AT 10:00 A.M.
Yep, Davis will host what may be a lively discussion on his Money Matters Radio show on KOCI, 101.5 FM from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m.  Additionally, Davis will be live in their chat room at www.kociradio.com (click "chat" in the upper right corner) so listeners can join in the conversation if they are so moved.

GIVE ME SOME FEEDBACK, PLEASE
This should be a very interesting hour.  I'm going to try to catch it - unless there's a particularly good college football game on television.  For those of you who DO listen, I'd appreciate your feedback here in the form of comments.  Let us know what you think of the discussion.

*UPDATE OF THE BROADCAST
Thanks to all of you who sent comments following the broadcast this morning.  Many of you made excellent observations.  Some of the rest of you just needed something to yap about - business as usual.

MUIR ON HER GAME - WU NOT SO MUCH
I did listen to the entire broadcast.  I, too, was disappointed that Jennifer Muir had to bug out early, leaving Jack Wu alone to misrepresent issues for the final few minutes.  In my view, Muir was BY FAR the better prepared of the two.  Her answers were crisp and she quoted proper citatitions in Jim Righeimer's Charter accurately.  Wu seemed to be way, way off his game.  He muttered his answers and just didn't seem to have done his homework.  Even better, a couple times he made statements that only supported something Muir had just said, acknowledging, for example, that people just don't trust Righeimer.  I guess Jack's too busy managing Dana Rhorabacher's campaign finances.

THANKS..
I'm grateful to KOCI and Troy Davis for this presentation, and for the opportunity to play a small role in it as a participant in the chat room they had going during the program.  I'm also grateful to those other folks who participated in the chat room.  I think those comments helped Davis keep the discussion going.

KOCI A VALUABLE TOOL...
I confess that I don't listen to KOCI much, but this is a valuable tool to inform the public about a variety of issues.  I hope Davis and the management of the station find a way to keep this particular ball rolling.

Agree about Jennifer!
The weird thing is that Wu tries to do his hair and dress like her. Let's keep this on radio..

Disgusted, I decide what's relevant here, thank you very much. I'm old enough to appreciate a beautiful woman - regardless of her age. If you don't like it, stop visiting this site.

Rue the Pall,

1. I suppose the ability to grow one's hair in order to donate it to needy kids is bad right?

2. Are you saying that Jennifer dresses like a chubby Asian woman? That's not very nice of you...

I'm with you Geoff.
Jennifer's smart AND attractive. Nothing wrong with saying so.

A lot of extremists are just focused on what Riggy's eating or Mensy's beating on..

I just heard the last 20 minutes of Davis's KOCI radio show, just before Jennifer Muir had to leave. With no one to contradict Jack Wu, he said things that have no basis in fact. He said that the opposition to the charter was based on mistrust of Jim Righeimer, and that charter opponents would be OK with it if someone else were in his place, which is absolutely not true. This is not about Righeimer or anyone else; it's about the long-term future of Costa Mesa and how this charter could change our city, not for the better. Wu tried to contrast the proposed charter with Bell's, saying that this charter limits Council members' salaries. But Bell's Council members' outrageous compensation did not come from their Council salaries. It came from a variety of other agencies they created and made themselves the heads of; the proposed charter would allow that in Costa Mesa. Jennifer was not given an opportunity to explain her denial that the charter would save Costa Mesa money, for example, that a bid would not necessarily be lower because the contractor would pay his employees less, or that a low-ball bid could lead to an abandoned project or costly change orders. Wu asserted that of course hiring a contractor who pays employees less would save the City money, and no one challenged him. What I heard on this program was disappointing. I hope Feet to the Fire will be much better.

The Feet to the Fire Forum was just one example of Jack Wu's self centeredness. His blowing a kiss to the audience when they grew tired of his pontifcation jand his attempt to trap and label Stephens by using some false pretense exposed this man as just the low life he is.

If it wasn't for the OCGOP blind support he gives he nor Mcadeit would have writing jobs.

Hey Jack is the hair thing really for the kids or for you to get attention? Seeing the type of person you are from your lies and BS I'd say it's all for Jack's image.

You are a low life dude. and I won't blow kisses your way as you are not worth it.

At the Feet to the Fire forum a month or so ago, Jack Wu disgustingly tried to imply John Stephen's position against the charter says he is saying the voters are stupid.

This is the type of human being and writer Jack Wu is.

Actually the entire charter is born out of Righeimer, Mensinger and others believing the voters are stupid and you can't trust council folk.

They say voters elect councils that are bought and paid for by unions so we need a charter to stop this. The 3M's and Jack Wu are the ones saying the voters are stupid not the against V crowd.

I listened from the start until about 10 minutes till 11. Wu rambled, couldn't stay on topic while Muir was direct and to the point. In the words of Red Foreman from the 70's show Wu "Wore his a** for a hat". Pretty embarassing for the supporters of the Charter if he is the most solid representative they can offer.

zz. Many of Macadeit, Wu, Smith etc comments are not based on any facts and in fact contrary to the facts.

Frankie have another drink, said the prevailing wage section of the charter helps lower the pension benefits issue. That is completely asinine and ignorant. The ability to use contractors who don't not pay prevailing wage does nothing to employee benefits. I don't know how Frankie can be so uninformed and yet write about this stuff for the OCRegister.

How does the OCRegister let this BS get by them?

Why would Jennifer Muir commit to this extremely crucial issue and then leave early.

That is horrible representation for the employees she speaks for.

That saddens me. I sure hope Katrina cleared her schedule next Monday!

Where are the real journalists in this city?

This council is singing how great they ate for balancing the budget.

Why doesn't someone look into how this really happened?

This council has actually raised expenditures. And no not infrastructure etc. drawing on the General Fund. They raised pension costs and salaries cost by adding new people.

General Employees picked up their full share 2 years ago. All 3 major revenue sources have increased as the economy improved.

Remember how Righeimer kept unbalancing the balanced budget staff gave them. Now they want to claim credit for the increase in revenues the city has seen and the hard work staff put into this.

Where are the real journalists in this city with any balls?

Of course hiring contractors at a lower rate will save money, in the short term at least. They can use illegals to get the work done for very little. But, is that what we want? Is that the wisest use of the money? And then find out years later that the structures were done wrong? Or that retrofitting wasn't up to speed? Not worth it. You get what you pay for.

Yes just wondering. We get it. The $41 an hour sign holder is a valuable asset in the project . I had to hire an apprentice and a journey man on my last job. They sat in the corner . We did not bother them. They know their role . We don't have many building projects, but when the Charter passes and we restructure the budget to allow for more investment in roads and parks, the ditch digger will not make $41 am hour.

Mora is trying to smear Stephens, Weitzberg and Genis saying they are funded by Union money. Ridge posts a link to the candidates filings showing he is full of it.

But check out Mensingers expenses.
$3,000+ to the Apple Store (New Ipads for all)

$3,000+ to a relative

$250 to the Estancia Cheer ( I guess this is why they wanted to be there as we were told.. money)

Thank you Geoff and others for participating in this lively exchange. With such a 'hot' debate going on it's tough to ferret out the fact from fiction and hypothecation. My goal was to continue the discussion, provide viewpoints to our listeners and further promote the real debate this Monday between Righeimer and Foley. Thanks for listening.

@IPADS are expensive--it's very interesting to see all the "out of owner's" that have contributed to the three morons and their pipe dream of running for this council. Take a look for yourselves, it's on the city website for everyone to see and decide.

that is great that Steve supports Estancia cheer. We all know how much he already does for the football program and Pop Warner. He is a tireless worker, has a great contract with the voters, penned the COIN ordinance which has interest from cities all over the country, and is a great family man. Good Job Councilman Mensinger. You are a man of action, the others...well they complain a lot but may find out who "WE" are which apparently is just what the city needs in their eyes. Easy choice.

notfitzy, I agree supporting our youth is great, I also support them.

But I am not so sure campaign donations funneled to these groups is the right way to support them.

Keep in mind the cheer squad showed up in uniforms at one Mensinger event and then wearing their own clothes at another.

We were told when this became a little controversy that the cheer squad wanted to be there and nothing to it.

Now it looks like there was $250 involved.

Not saying it's illegal but why lie about it or make it look otherwise.

If my sons swim team showed up I wouldn't want them to be paid for this especially out of campaign funds donated by others!

Yea, ask that airport baggage clerk, the employees who sued him, and the Costa Mesa teacher.

The ocgop "slate" he's part of is a joke. Two obsessive smirkers and a former mayor who was too busy working in a dress to go to city hall the day a worker died.

No Estancia cheerleaders showed up in uniform at a Mensinger event. Get your facts straight. Never happened. They wore their own clothes and the football players wore Mensinger "Residents First" t shirts. It is great that Steve donated to them. It pales in comparison to the tens of thousands he has helped raise with Colin at CM United but it is a nice gesture. You guys will complain about anything. Give it a rest. This was a nice gesture on his part, you should thank him. He puts in hundred of hours of work for free each year also at Estancia, no pension like Perry. If you want to complain, how about Foley offering community service credits to kids to pass out flyers at an anti charter meeting, completely against school rules and she is a Trustee!

nofitzy,
So you're saying you think it's OK for Mensinger to use donated campaign funds to contribute to Estancia Cheer? Really? In what context are those funds campaign-related expenses? He can be Mister Generous with his own cash, but there are different rules (he doesn't like rules) for campaign funds.

notfitzy, you are right they showed up at McCarthy's event in uniforms and the district agreed that was against their policy. Then they showed up at Mensinger's event but that time in their own clothes.

You conveniently left that out. I understand why because you know it was a violation of the district policy.

So both you and support youth are slightly off.

But the point appears to be using campaign donations which in this case looks like payback or maybe even pay for them to show up.

When I first read the Pilot article on this it claimed Mensinger and McCarthy each donated $250 dollars. I didn't know it meant Mensinger's campaign because it gave Mensinger personal credit. So really now we see the money came from all the campaign contributors.

I like that the cheer coach claimed in the Pilot article this was just them wanting to get involved because they are the future. I just feel really deceived seeing that money was exchange and campaign donations being used for what we were led to believe was a volunteering exercise by district cheerleaders.

If Steve and Colin want to support our youth GREAT do it with their own money.

How do you give credit to them personally for this when it's donated campaign money?

10/15/2012 09:25:00 AM
Anonymous Follow the money said...

I just check and McCarthy does not claim any expense for the cheer leaders donations. I guess this could mean he didn't donate to them or he did it with his own personal money.

I did see an expense for Southwest airlines. Did he have to fly from North Costa Mesa to the westside.

Maybe he flew to the Apple Store to pick up Mensinger's $3,000 worth of Apple goods claimed on Mensinger's expenses.

Those IPads are expensive.
