New Year - Same Old "Neighbor"

HUMMING THE JEOPARDY! THEME...
So, while we're all sitting around, waiting for some word from Sacramento, I offer you a couple random observations about one of Costa Mesa's "most influential" persons - Your Neighbor (The Mouth From Mesa North).

EXPOSING HIMSELF, SO TO SPEAK
As those few of you who read both my blog and his on a regular basis certainly know, The Mouth has recently been exposing the real HIM a little more. No, I don't mean he's been dropping his drawers or anything like that. Nope, it's just that he's been much more overt in his selection of topics he chooses to address.

WHAT IS HE, REALLY?
Yep, our community racist laureate has become a news aggregator over the past several months, choosing to link to national and international news items rather than offer his normal pithy prejudiced comments on local items. I guess he fancies himself a Matt Drudge wannabe - or maybe his model is the Huffington Post - who knows?

RACISM, PURE AND SIMPLE...
Regardless, he's taken to linking to even more articles with a definite racist bent - linking to articles about crimes committed by blacks or other minorities and NEVER linking to stories about crimes by whites, for example. Of course, I know those of you who read both our blogs are smart enough to see through his not-very-subtle attempts to manipulate your views and to salt your psyche with his racist drivel.

CLIMBING HIS FAMILY TREE
And his constant mantra about DNA - it's like a broken record, for goodness sake - it getting mighty old, too. The longer he keeps ranting about purity of races, "blending" and the inferiority of non-whites the more it makes we want to examine HIS family tree. I sure wouldn't be surprised to find a few "twisted branches" on it...

A HYPOCRITE, INDEED...
The man's a hypocrite, too. He makes claims of having been a Marine, a lawyer, an actor, a Realtor and a writer - even going so far to stand before the City Council and waving his three pathetic books around - yet complains when he gets notoriety. And notorious he is! He's been under scrutiny by the Southern Poverty Law Center for more than a decade when incendiary comments in one of his essays received national attention.

NEW NATION NEWS
Over the years I've written about my observations of his actions and his essays. If you go to the New Nation News website you'll find a listing of hundreds of essays he's written for that publication over the past dozen years or so. You can reach that page HERE. Simply scrolling down that index will give your gag reflex a good test. His most recent contribution to the enlightenment of our society is a little ditty entitled "A New Christmas Dawns". For some historical perspective, try this one - "Ding Dong The Whites Are Dead". He wrote that one way back in 2000 and has kept that drum beat going ever since.

WHY FEW DAILY PILOT ARTICLES?
You don't see as much of his tripe in the Daily Pilot these days as once was the case. I don't know why that is, except to observe that every time there is a change in leadership over at the Pilot his stuff pops up again, then we no longer hear from him. One can always speculate about why, but I sure wouldn't be surprised if the leaders of that fine local newspaper figure him out pretty darn quickly and decide that he's not worth the grief. The threats of legal action he's thrown at them in the past are probably pretty off-putting, don't you think?

BOUNCED FROM THE DP 103
After three years running, the editors of the Daily Pilot had the wisdom to no longer show him in their roster of the 103 most influential people/things - the DP 103. When I nominated him for consideration before his first selection I did so with strong mixed feelings. He certainly did fit their definition - influential - and there was no proviso for negative influence being excluded. I've regretted my nomination ever since because it only emboldened him.

ALLEGED MENSA MEMBER CAN'T COUNT
And, I've noticed that, despite his claims of Mensa membership, large numbers seem to cause him a problem. He ended the year by publishing #1007 in his series of CM Press posts, which is actually a little misleading, because he goes back during the day and adds comments frequently. Anyhow, earlier this year he kept getting confused and used the same numbers a couple of times. So, beginning the first of this year he, literally, went back to square one and began numbering his posts with #1. I think he's good-to-go until later this month, when he will run out of fingers and toes to count. If he makes it through that milestone, the first of February is certainly going to give him trouble. And, my goodness, what will he do in 2012, when we have a leap year? Quick, somebody send him an abacus, please!

WHY BOTHER?
Why do I bother commenting on this guy, you ask? Well, I've written about that many times in the past. I think he is an insidious influence on our city - a man who tries to infect our society locally and nationally with his own particular brand of racism. I think he's influenced many people in our city, including a flock of our most recent elected leaders, and I don't think that's good for our city. I think he's like a virus in our community that has taken hold in the malleable skulls of some local residents and, for more than a decade, has been chewing away at the very soul of our city.

HE'LL RANT - I'LL OBSERVE AND REBUT
So, as Your Neighbor continues his campaign to spread intolerance in our little part of the world I'll continue to observe and comment on it - to offer a counterpoint to his views.

Mensa Metamorphosis?

"YOUR NEIGHBOR" REDUX
You all know the high regard I have for our old buddy, "Your Neighbor" (The Mouth From Mesa North), or as he has referred to himself in the past, "Mr. U. Know-Who". I've written many, many times about him and his insidious influence on our city and his warped "if-it-ain't-white-it-ain't-right" philosophy.

THE BRAIN WHO ATE COSTA MESA
I've written that I thought he has a prodigious intellect, but that it's been wasted on his attempts to sway public opinion against those who are not white. I've acknowledged that he's one smart fella, ( He purports to be a member of Mensa, among other things) but that his views are twisted by his obvious racial bias. He and I seldom agree on much. In fact, back when our local newspaper of record, The Daily Pilot, was publishing his submissions they would occasionally publish our separate views juxtaposed on the same page. That was fun.

SPEWING VENOM
Our old pal continues to stand before our city council and other public bodies and spew his venom about whatever his cause du jour happens to be. And, it appears, he does continue to influence a few folks around town, including some elected and appointed officials. It's sad..

METAMORPHOSIS
Lately our pal seems to be undergoing a metamorphosis. You know that word, right? One definition of that word is, "A change in an animal as it grows, particularly a radical change, such as the transformation of a caterpillar into a butterfly." In my view, though, this metamorphosis is more likely to result in a cockroach than a butterfly.

SHIFTING GEARS
Our old buddy seems to be shifting gears these days. His pathetic blog, the CM Press, has become a kind of Drudge Report wannabe - an aggregator of "news". Except our buddy has chosen to insert radical racial articles that support his warped view of the world into his aggregations. Rather than focus on local news he's taken to trying to solve the world's problems as a blog poster.

"OUR WAY FOR OURSELVES ALONE"
Even more interesting is a site I discovered that he's been authoring for many months. Here's a link to it. Before you go visit this site, understand that it appears to be a "work in progress" - well over 40,000 words so far, and counting! I visit it every now and then and it seems to be in a constant state of flux. My take on this lengthy bit of propaganda is that our pal has finally gone off the deep end and now actually believes he's a deity! Yep, God, himself!

NOT THE "GOD" YOU HOPED FOR
Of course, that explains a lot of what he writes and says. Except, he's not the benevolent "God" one hopes for - he's an impatient deity, who suffers no fools. That must make it tough for him, because he apparently views every other human being to be inferior to him. As he stands before the city council, for example, he will frequently refer to them using such terms as "stupid", and other terms of endearment.

WHY WRITE ABOUT HIM?
So why, Potstirrer, do you write about this guy? Glad you asked. Under most circumstances I would simply ignore his perverted pontifications. I wouldn't give a hoot that David Duke, former head of the KKK, thinks he's a great writer - which he does, according to his web site. I wouldn't care about the hundreds of essays he's had published online on sites like the New Nation News web site, HERE, and many others over the past decade. I wouldn't give a second thought to the fact that the Southern Poverty Law Center considers him a dangerous fellow and has developed a sizable file on him and his writings. After all, he's just one pathetic, misguided guy, wasting his prodigious intellect trying to spread hate in the world.

HIS INTIMIDATING INFLUENCE IS SIGNIFICANT
Except - and that's a BIG EXCEPT - his vile pronunciations contaminates my city. When he growls like an angry gorilla before our city council about issues using all his skills developed as an actor - which are not much, believe me - he does influence decisions made by our leaders. When he was appointed by his sycophants on the council to the powerful 3R Committee he was able to manipulate the process used to distribute government funds to charities in our city to the detriment of those that serve our large Latino population.

PAULARINO PARK
When he decided that he didn't want hard-working Latino men kicking a soccer ball around a neighborhood park near his home he raised the specter of children being injured by errant balls, adult men defecating in the bushes, etc. Sure enough, even there was no evidence that this was happening, he frightened enough people that he successfully had the park turned into a passive park - where no one can actually go to engage in active recreation. If you want to go sit and watch grass grow, Paularino Park is the place for you.

ORANGE COAST COLLEGE SWAP MEET
Several years ago he was almost successful in his move to abolish the Orange Coast College Swap Meet - a weekend venue of low-end commerce frequented by many of our Latino neighbors. He painted a picture of invading hoards of terrible Santa Ana residents, driving on our streets and wearing them out. It almost worked until wiser minds prevailed and his move, championed on the city council by then-rookie councilman Allan Mansoor, went down in flames.

AZTEC BASKETBALL LEAGUE
More recently his bleating before the Parks and Recreation Commission about a contract with the Santa Ana-based Aztec Basketball League in which he painted a similar picture for them of gang-bangers and ex-cons invading our Downtown area every Sunday, terrorizing our women and children caused the commission to turn to stone when it came time to vote on the contract. Only after much community outcry did the commission re-hear the issue and the contract was approved. That only happened after the issue was passed upstream to the City Council and Mansoor required the owner of the league to change the name of his business to eliminate the offensive "Aztec" reference. Such is his influence over some of our weak-minded leaders.

THE REASONS FOR HIS HATE?
Those are just a few of the reasons I've written this little essay. I could write about many, many more - and may do so one day. I don't know why "Your Neighbor" has such a strong, deeply-rooted hatred for people of color, but his actions clearly tell us he does. Perhaps he or a member of his family has had a bad experience with a member of a minority group and that has caused him to spew his hatred for so many years. Perhaps he views Costa Mesa as a place where insufficient intellectual horsepower is found in our elected leaders, which makes it easy for him to sew his seeds of intolerance. Maybe it's all of the above and more.

STAND UP TO HIM!
Whatever the reasons for his actions, it is my opinion that his ongoing presence in municipal matters is an insidious influence on our city. It does not serve the residents of our city well. I can only hope that the current council - at least a majority on the council - will finally have the intestinal fortitude to stand up to this bully, and that future elected leaders will do the same.

In Case You've Forgotten...

YOUR NEIGHBOR RE-VISITED
As many of you know, over the years writing on this blog I've commented frequently on the activities of one particular Costa Mesa resident - a guy who lives in the north section of town to whom I've referred variously as "Your Neighbor", "The Mouth From Mesa North" and a yapping hyena, among others... Each of those little terms of endearment expressed how I felt at the time.

EXPOSING HIS MOTIVES
You also know that I feel his motives for his activism are based in deep-seated racial intolerance. I've based that opinion on nearly a decade of watching him in action and reading his essays, commentaries and comments. From time to time I've referred readers to some of his particularly offensive works, so you can get a feel for just why I feel he is such a pernicious influence in this city.

HE'S MAKING PROGRESS!
In recent years he, as a main speaker for the self-named "improvers" in our city, has managed to manipulate some of our elected officials - he's a very persuasive speaker - and is making progress toward what I perceive to be his goal - the expulsion of minority groups from our city.

PROOF?
I know, I know - some of you will demand proof of such a claim. I must admit that I've never seen him burning a cross on the lawn of a black family nor leading a Ku Klux Klan rally. I have not seen him patrolling the border with the whacko Minutemen nor protesting a Latino rally with the goofballs of the California Coalition for Immigration Reform (CCIR).

JUST WATCH HIM
I have seen him stand before our public meetings and rant about issues in Latino sections of town. I have seen him leap into action whenever a Latino is suspected of a crime, yet totally ignore major criminal activities by White Supremacists - and wonder why. In fact, over the years, many if not most of his actions were aimed directly at the Latinos in our city, trying to disenfranchise and dislocate them.

WHY THE VENOM?
When I first became aware of his existence I read many of his posts on the old Concerned Costa Mesa Citizens web site - he was a prolific contributor - and became curious about this guy with so much venom inside him. I began paying attention to his writings and eventually discovered the New Nation News web site, which is the repository of hundreds of his essays, most of which decry the dilution of the white race in this country. For a long time he would pump out one long essay a week - at least - attempting to influence his primary audience - angry whites.

HIS LATEST RANT
This week he published a new essay on the New Nation News site, which you can read in it's entirety HERE. The title of this repulsive piece of work is "Learning About Nature and Nature's Laws From Squirrels". Now that sounds benign enough, doesn't it? Sure does, and he uses photos of three cute little squirrels to illustrate it. Ah, how sweet!








A FEW WORDS SAY IT ALL
So, as I do whenever he publishes yet another rant, I held my nose and read it. It didn't take long to discover the real thesis he was presenting. As he presents his view that "Whites are in a death spiral" because they are not breeding within their race enough, he gives us this sentence in the fifth paragraph of his essay: "By out breeding others we also breed our own people to fill every societal and workaday niche in society, and this acts as a bar against others coming to our lands." He goes on to tell us a little story about white squirrels being bred out of existence by the incursion of black squirrels.

WANT MORE?
If that's not enough, in a recent blog entry he quotes Charles Darwin and lauds him for marrying his cousin. I guess Your Neighbor considers inbreeding a virtue...

WHITE REVOLUTION
As I said, he is a prolific writer of this kind of garbage, so it came as no surprise when my Google Alert system coughed up this essay on another site - one I'd not seen before. So, I clicked on the link and was taken to a site called "White Revolution" and is subtitled "leading America to a Whiter future since 2002". If you really want to, you can visit that site HERE. If you do go there be prepared to be offended by the content. The owner of this site, one Billy Roper, is a notorious racist.

DAVID DUKE LOVES HIM
The fact that his essay appears on this site too comes as no surprise. As I've mentioned before, Your Neighbor is the darling of the former head of the Ku Klux Klan, David Duke, who uses his own web site as a vehicle to present Your Neighbor's views. In fact, Your Neighbor uses Duke's admiration of his work as a marketing tool to sell his books.

WHY?
So, you say, "OK, Pot Stirrer, why are we back on this subject again?" Good question...

IT'S IMPORTANT TO CONSIDER THE SOURCE
I guess it's because I think it's important that the residents of our city understand the REAL motivation of this guy because he is so influential with our limp-brained City Council majority. They will deny it, but history shows us that they frequently echo his words verbatim.

ALONE NO LONGER
For a long time I was a lone voice in the wilderness, but that's changed. Now at least two other bloggers in our city have taken up the gauntlet and are pointing out the hypocrisy and the vile lies being perpetrated on the populace. Both the authors at the CMunimPRESSed and CM TRUTH blogs, which you can access by clicking on the links provided in the blog roll at the right of this page, have presented rebuttals to his misrepresentations. The CM TRUTH, in particular, has been providing insights on gangs and graffiti in our city with a very special degree of familiarity. The information presented on that blog is informative and useful.

WATCH HIM AND LEARN
Our city is about to make some difficult budget choices as the national economy continues it's downward spiral. Your Neighbor will undoubtedly be at the forefront of those commenting and providing "guidance" to the City Council. As you watch I suspect you'll see veiled attacks on entities in our city that support those of us who are less fortunate - the charities that he has attacked for years as magnets for undesirables (read that "Latinos").

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!
It's time for the good, caring residents of this city to stand and tell the City Council that we're tired of them being dragged around by the nose by the racist rants of the Mouth From Mesa North. It's time for them to repudiate his influence. If they fail to do so, well, I guess we will know where they stand....

NEWPORT-MESA 2009?

I'M BACK...
Well, I'm back. After enjoying a wonderful holiday hiatus I just couldn't stay away. And you thought you wouldn't hear from me until after the New Year!

...AND BUMMED OUT!
While gone I did stay abreast of things here in the Newport-Mesa, including reading the rambling rants of Costa Mesa's racist laureate - The Mouth From Mesa North. I'm trying to figure out whether he has the hots for Katrina Foley or Wendy Leece - or both. The poor, deluded guy just can't seem to get those two blond ladies out of his head! Even when he fabricates issues - like his inference that the miscreants who attacked the homeless fellow with paint ball guns earlier this week were Latinos simply because the crime occurred in an area of town where some Latinos live, even though there has been no evidence or official speculation to that effect - he still finds a way to insert Katrina Foley into the story. Ain't love grand? Yeah, I know he's "married with children", but he's also a big fan of plural marriage, so....

WHAT'S AHEAD?
As the New Year arrives I've been thinking a little bit about what stands ahead for Costa Mesa and Newport Beach in 2009. In both cities there will be difficult issues, many of them controversial, that will face their elected leaders and their city staff.

CITY HALL AND REHAB HOMES
In Newport Beach, the new City Hall is a biggie, as is the ongoing discussion about the proliferation of Rehabilitation Homes in that city.

MUNICIPAL FISCAL TRAUMA
Both cities face the uncertainty of the economy and it's impact on municipal budgets. Even though our state bureaucrats have dragged their feet for six months on a budget, both are already making adjustments and planning for more within the next couple months.

CHOPPING COPS TO BALANCE BUDGET
Our anonymous friend over at the CM TRUTH blog recently broke the story that the Costa Mesa Police Department folded it's Narcotics Unit into the Special Enforcement Detail (SED), delayed some promotions and reassigned officers into existing vacancies in an attempt to reduce costs. We hope that's all that will be necessary right now, but we won't know until we see the post-holiday sales tax numbers. Predictions are bleak. Automobile dealerships along our Harbor Boulevard of Cars are suffering the worst downturn in memory.

CAR DEALERSHIPS IN PERIL
Some dealerships have already disappeared and others consolidated operations to reduce costs. Of course, the elephant in the room is the future, or lack thereof, of the Big Three American automobile manufacturers. If GM, Ford and Chrysler are, in fact, forced into bankruptcy, the "ripple" that will go through all phases of our economy will be more like a tsunami. Predictions of millions of workers facing lay-off as a result is very unnerving. Locally, it could mean the demise of several dealerships in our town, which will result in a major punch in the gut to our municipal budget.

WHITHER SOUTH COAST PLAZA?
Our big sales tax generator, South Coast Plaza, seems to be doing OK this holiday season, if packed parking lots are any indication. We'll know in January.


ACOSTA DRAMA CONTINUES
Other shoes waiting to drop in Costa Mesa include the on-going drama of the Benito Acosta affair. The criminal case filed by the city has, once again, been rejected by an appeals court. The civil suit filed by the ACLU on behalf of Acosta against the city is pending, with the trial scheduled to start in February. In my opinion, the city should instruct Jones & Mayer, our contract legal counsel, to stop any further action on the criminal case and find a way to settle the civil case before goes to trial. If we don't, it's very likely that the ego of Mayor Allan Mansoor will cost our city dollars in seven figures - something we certainly cannot tolerate in these difficult financial times.

SR-55 WIDENING TO BEGIN
In January the widening of SR 55, Newport Blvd. as it passes through the Downtown section of Costa Mesa, will commence. This construction will be a short-term solution to a growing traffic congestion problem. Unfortunately, even though most of the work will be done at night, cut-through traffic adjacent to the construction area will almost certainly increase.

WENDY'S WITCH HUNT
Councilwoman Wendy Leece's on-going interference in the operations of the Senior Center is sure to get much ink in the press as she continues to let the unfounded gripes of a couple seniors drive her own personal agenda and keep the center in a state of turmoil. She has recently complained about being "out of the loop" on issues, yet conveniently didn't mention that she has not attended six of the last seven meetings of the Senior Center Board.

TROIKA BECOMES A JUNTA
As mentioned above, the budget will be a huge concern for the "new" City Council. Of course, none of the members are actually "new" - they've all got at least 2 years experience under their collective belts. That doesn't necessarily mean they're smarter. They just have a lot of tenure between them. We'll see how the new majority will use the power they have as a group, and how much they try to marginalize Katrina Foley's contributions.

PLAYING FIELDS
The condition and use of school playing fields will also be a big issue to be tackled by the Costa Mesa City Council. We'll find out whether our current council plans to take a constructive, conciliatory role in this issue, or if they will attempt to bully the school board into following their requirements.

ANNEXATION
Annexation will also be another big issue. We'll find out, for example, whether Gary Monahan has moderated his position on this subject from his last term on the council, when he exhorted his peers to "play hardball" with Newport Beach on this issue. I thought at the time, and still do, that it was a strange position to take, since Newport Beach held all the cards.

STRETCHING MONAHAN
Regarding Monahan specifically, we'll also find out if a faltering business - he told us he had to lay off a few people this summer - and participation on both the Sanitary District Board (where among his first acts a couple years ago was to vote himself a raise) and as a city council member will stretch his limited skills too far.

BANNING RANCH
The future of Banning Ranch continues to churn. Will it be developed? How much of it? By whom? What will the impact be on Costa Mesa?

DAILY PILOTS FUTURE?
What does the future hold for the Daily Pilot, our local newspaper of record for a century? The bankruptcy chaos continues at the Tribune Company, owner of the Los Angeles Times who, in turn, owns the Daily Pilot and her sister community newspapers. Staff cuts over the past year have severely impacted the news gathering and dissemination by the Pilot. Chops at the top - publisher Tom Johnson and Director of New and Online Tony Dodero - are two very significant losses. Will the Pilot survive? I sure hope so.

NEW COMPETITION?
And, will Tom Johnson and former Daily Pilot editor Bill Lobdell succeed in their recently-announced plans - a story broken here first - to launch an online newspaper to compete with (or replace) the Daily Pilot? According to their web site, HERE, they plan to use the VoiceOfSanDiego publication as their model. As I've said before, my preference would be for them to acquire the Daily Pilot and morph it into the model they have in mind - online first, with a once-a-week print edition. Time will tell.

INSIDIOUS INFLUENCE BY "YOUR NEIGHBOR"
It's going to be very interesting to watch to see just how much influence the guy mentioned in the second paragraph above will continue to have on the policies and actions of the "improver" council majority. His warped agenda has been a driving force for the past decade and has resulted in a definite anti-immigrant slant on many things proposed by the majority.

IT'S GOING TO BE INTERESTING
Right from the get-go 2009 is going to be a very interesting year here in the land of Newport-Mesa. The very first Costa Mesa City Council meeting on January 6th promises to launch the new year with controversy if rumors about pending agenda items are true.
