Primary Count Almost Complete

30% VOTER TURNOUT
Well, the counting continues and not much is happening in the way of change. I checked the Registrar of Voters office this afternoon and find that just under 26,000 votes remain to be counted in Orange County. So far not quite 30% of the eligible voters cast ballots in the Primary election. I expect the final tally to be available by the weekend. I'll report on it next week.
REPUBLICANS OVER DEMOCRATS
42% of the registered Republicans voted while only a little over 28% of the Democrats cast a ballot.


TRAN HAS A TOUGH ROAD AHEAD
In the 47th District Congressional race, Republican Van Tran captured just under 55% (10,514) of the votes while Democrat Loretta Sanchez received all the Democrat votes - 17,010.
MANSOOR VS. NGUYEN
In the 68th Assembly District, Democrat Phu Nguyen (9,934 or 58.8% of the votes) will face Costa Mesa Mayor Allan Mansoor (21,752 or 69.3% of the votes) in November.
LEECE STILL OFF THE PACE
In the race for one of six seats available in the Republican Central Committee for the 68th Assembly District Costa Mesa Mayor Pro Tem Wendy Leece is in 7th place, just about 1,000 votes behind the 6th place person. Costa Mesa Parks and Recreation Commissioner Jeff Mathews is in 5th place and seems secure in that slot.
MEASURE "C"!
Costa Mesa's Measure "C", which locks in the zoning for the Orange County Fair and Event Center, has passed in a landslide, 87.7% Yes to 12.3% No.

LEECE LOST HER SEAT, SO TO SPEAK
None of the races mentioned earlier have changed except Wendy Leece has apparently been leap-frogged by Janet Nguyen for the 6th and final Republican Central Committee Seat for the 68th Assembly District. As of around 6:30 Wednesday night Nguyen has 7,058 to Leece's 6,764, a swing of nearly 300 votes from very early this morning.

NUMBERS CHANGED, NOT PERCENTAGES
In the 68th Assembly District race the new, slicker-coiffed Allan Mansoor has tallied 15,262 votes (73.8%) over Long Pham's 5,415.

In the 47th congressional race, Van Tran's lead expanded to 51.8%, 6,297 votes.

The numbers for Measure C have changed, but not the percentages. "Yes" - 8,843 (87.2%), "No" - 1,301.

Overall, 328,443 Orange County ballots were cast (20.5%). 101,612 Democrats voted (19.7%). 203,586 Republicans voted (29.3%).

COMMUNITY BUDGET WORKSHOP THURSDAY
A reminder... Thursday at 6:00 p.m. at City Hall in Conference Room 1A, City Manager Allan Roeder and Budget and Research Officer Bobby Young will conduct a Community Budget Workshop for any residents interested in knowing about the proposed 2010/2011 municipal budget. Typically, no council members are present at this meeting.

INFORMAL AND USER-FRIENDLY
In years past this has been a fairly informal event, with the same slide show presented to the City Council at it's Budget Study Session Tuesday afternoon. (You can watch that presentation HERE) Normally, this a much less structured, user-friendly event at which residents are encouraged to ask questions and offer their views.

NOT MANY ATTEND
Last year there were approximately a dozen folks who showed up, if you count those people who came and went during the meeting. In prior years there were only two or three of us there. Even though the study session provided good information and is available for viewing on Channel 24 (99 on ATT UVerse) and via streaming video on the city web site, this workshop has been quite informative in the past.
