There has been some talk about putting a bike trail on the flood control channel that runs between Harbor and Bear Street and then points East, somehow finally connecting to the Back Bay. It would be much cheaper to build protected bike lanes/pedestrian ways on the streets and would avoid putting cyclists and walkers in isolated areas. With more people using bicycles as a primary form of transportation, streets are better in terms of getting cyclists directly where they want to go. Protected bike and pedestrian ways are easier to maintain, and less likely to have vandalism too.
