Text And Drive - They're Gonna Getcha!
THAT'S RIGHT - IT'S NOT!
Today, April Fool's Day, begins a month-long ramped-up enforcement by both Costa Mesa and Newport Beach police departments and more than 200 other law enforcement agencies to snag those of us who may text and/or use cell phones while driving without proper hands-free protocols. You can read Costa Mesa's announcement HERE. The Newport Beach announcement is similar.
A CLUB, NOT A CARROT
The message is clear - distracted drivers are a menace on the roadways and one way to modify bad behavior is to nail them with tickets. The fine for the first offense is $161, growing to AT LEAST $281 for the second.
YOU CAN DO IT!
So, be a good little responsible person and DO NOT text while driving. Don't use your cell phone if you don't have hands-free capability. If you simply cannot stand to ignore your phone for a few minutes, safely pull off the roadway, park, turn off the engine, THEN read the darn messages! Don't endanger the lives of fellow-drivers and pedestrians by driving distracted.
YOU'VE BEEN WARNED!

Now if they'd only crack down on texting while walking in parking lots or crossing streets.
How about texting while sitting on the City Council dais?
You're right, Valan2, could be dangerous to the health of us all! ;-)
I forgot about that - texting while governing - or pretending to govern. He's not even pretending to listen.
