Land Use Tops The Week Ahead

ANOTHER FULL WEEK
It looks like yet another busy week for Costa Mesa City government as we begin the last week of January, 2014.

NEW SMALL LOT SUBDIVISION RULES
Monday, January 27, 2014, the Costa Mesa Planning Commission meets for what looks to be a very short meeting beginning at 6:00 p.m. in City Council Chambers.  There are only two public hearings on the agenda, HERE, a transfer of a liquor license and Item #2, HERE, the very significant changes to the Zoning Code regarding Small Lot Subdivisions.  This one should require some careful scrutiny because it will affect future development throughout the city.  It's going to be interesting to see how much play this gets in the Special Joint Study Session the next day.
CAFR AND PENSION REPORTS
On Tuesday, January 28, 2014 the Finance Advisory Committee meets at 3:30 in Conference Room 1A.  Normally I wouldn't mention this, but the agenda, HERE, has some interesting items on it.  They will have a presentation of the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) for the last fiscal year and the Pension Cost Reduction Council Agenda staff report and recommendations.  This could be an interesting meeting and it will butt up against the next one.

GENERAL PLAN LAND USE STUDY SESSION
At 4:30 Tuesday, January 28, 2014 the Costa Mesa City Council and the Planning Commission will hold a special Joint Study Session on the General Plan Land Use Element, HERE.  This is a lengthy document and the attachments - Land Use Alternatives, HERE; Land Use Maps, HERE and Workshop Summary, HERE - make for some very interesting reading.  This is the proposed road map for land use in our city for the next 20 years and something most residents should have at least a passing interest in - but they won't.  So, I anticipate the small cadre of folks who have attended workshops and study sessions since this process began the middle of last year will also attend this meeting to see where the top elected and appointed officials will be taking this city.

 EAST 19TH STREET IMPROVEMENTS
And, on Wednesday, January 29, 2014 from 6 - 7:30,  there will apparently be a meeting at Kaiser Elementary School, 2120 Santa Ana Avenue, Costa Mesa,  for residents to hear about the planned East 19th Street Improvements.  You can read about it HERE.
