Anyone know how many cops were hired from last years' 1,932 applicants Righeimer loudly boasted about during a council meeting? ........5........Don't feel alone if you're underwhelmed.
Let me follow up because I think it's important to be fair to 'ol Jimmy and the council. All law enforcement agencies, for a variety of reasons, are finding it difficult to fill their ranks with QUALIFIED (key word) men and women. Costa Mesa, in particular, has it rougher due to the caustic atmosphere generated by the Righeimer led council faction. Certainly cutting CMPD pay and benefits, as they most certainly aim to do, won't help this situation at all.
Tonight everyone can go to Riggy's dinner and hear him say what a great leader he is. Will the supplicants, bootlickers, hangers-on and foot soldiers have their own table? Will the other 10 attendees be jealous?
"The Costa Mesa Police Department has an excellent and well-deserved reputation around the state"
The "has" should be replaced with "did". The CMPD is grossly understaffed and has poor equipment. A department that was once know for being technologically advanced is now left in the stone age. Officers are still leaving the department and many are ready to lateral or retire before the next contract.
Just about every department is hiring right now and CMPD will be lucky to draw quality applicants from the likes of Newport Beach and Anaheim. The damage is done and it is going to continue to get worse before it gets any better.
great dinner honoring great men. full house. u were not missed!
And yet you had to run right home and tell me about it... ;-) So, you really did miss me, huh?
bootlicker:
"great dinner honoring great men. full house."
It was never about honoring Hammett or the Segerstroms- it was about kicking off Riggy's latest charter scheme.
It's a very small room. After giveaways, very few actual dollars were raised.
If things don't turn around, Riggy and Mensy will be joining the cleaning crew there.
yep, had to run right home and post! i am part of the rapid response team. sort of like alf, fuqua, etc. but from the side of the doers, the visionaries, the volunteers, and basically do gooders rather than the complainers. two more posts and i move up to level 6 bootlicker so please post this. once i get to level 10 i will be appointed to charter committee and i have some great ideas for inclusion in a charter.
Shooter and Wyatt are both right on, except for a couple things...
We won't be lucky enough to draw anyone from Newport or Anaheim, thats where OUR people are going! (In addition to Beverly Hills)
Of the 5 hired, we still don't know how many of those will make it out of training and if that then their probationary phase. Word is that the hundreds and hundreds of applicants have been weak. Poor financial and job histories (read into character, integrity, judgment). Histories have included prostitution purchases, recent serious drug usage, poor military service (not honorable discharge).A lot of 2nd and 3rd+ career changes. Not many looking to make law enforcement a career much less the calling that it is and should be.
The announcement is great, but HR and the PD infrastructure is not in place to process the applicants in a timely fashion. IF you can find 10 quality applicants through all the garbage that gets spit out via the online shotgun format application submission process (Neogov), they are testing elsewhere as well and wont wait the better part of a year or more for CM to get to them. If the magic 10 applied and were identified today, by the time they finish backgrounds, psyche, academy and training, and if all 10were successful, the PD would still be short with the amount of pending retirements next year, much less the unanticipated people leaving, and/or injured.
Unless things change and soon, Costa Mesa, once the hallmark of professional law enforcement, will become home to dumping grounds for those who cant get hired elsewhere, and training grounds for those who take the job for the training and then move on to their desired department.
actually a large room. don't believe u were there. it was all about honoring the two men. nothing at all said about charter. maybe u were in the burger king restroom by mistake? because u sure were not there or are lying about event.
Is it true Fitzy got a free ticket to the mayor's dinner? If so, why?
all the sycophants got free tickets of course. cronies, bootlickers, puppets, trolls all were in for free. genis and our ceo and police chief and firemen too. wendy too but not sure she made it there. so many people it was hard to identify everyone but never saw her. when councilmembers called on to stand we saw no shawl. mensinger got loudest ovation, genis and monahan tied for least ovation though it was positive for both of them .
nice welcome for the new recruits: you are bottom of the barrel ! not really qualified !
way to go haters.
Of course Fitzy got a ticket but it wasn't really free, he had to do a lot of Riggy butt kissing to get one. He has been a loyal servant to Riggys'rear end and for all of that he was awarded a few positions, a golf cart, a Twinkee addiction, and plenty of long lasting jokes on his character.
Is this a joint latetal and entry level test? The info from the City states that applicants successful in the process will then attend the police academy. How long would it take for a person to finish the whole process and what is the cost for one person to get hired?
I have a lot of respect for our CM Police officers. They are hard working, dedicated to our community and listen to our residents.
They, along with our city employees have been through the wringer these past few years. I admire all who have hung in there and stayed on.
Besides CMPD, let's not forget the excellent sheriff's deputies we have here in OC like our mayor pro tem Steve. Oh that's right, he just plays one at the airport..
Dear kwahlf--as a city employee I have to say that I'm fine and have never been better. All this talk about people going through the wringers is nonsense. People are still getting bonuses, raises and OT is is all over the place. Thanks Riggy.
I got mine is clearly NOT a city employee...city employees, police and fire haven't had a raise since 2007-2008. In fact its been furloughs, paycuts, pension contribution increases (for PD one of first to do so countywide) other concessions and increased medical benefit costs with no offset since. This equates to less take home for the last 4-5 years consistenztly. Unless at the executive level there are NO bonuses either. Maybe the poster is buddies with the Rig-hires if that's what they think.
OT is crazy out of control, supply exceeding the demand due to staffing levels...no one wants to work it cuz theyre beat down from the amount of work and OT. At the PD this means gang officers and dui enforcement officers are being utilized to meet minimum patrol staffing standards. When that happens guess what's not getting done? Yet CM still leads the county in dui arrests...
Geoff u should do a public records request of Francis'commissioned survey by Dr.Chip Espinoza of the city employees and how to build trust back...one which city council would not participate with...word was irreparable. Probably make for interesting reading...
Calm down Wyatt, Shooter and Green - you can't have it both ways. Maybe if you and your buddies weren't so easily offended, an odd character trait for supposedly tough cops (many former military where you don't get to bitch and whine), you'd just do your job and enjoy the respect and gratitude of the community, as well as the good pay and benefits.
But you aren't really complaining, just following the playbook - keep the negative drumbeat up no matter what happens. It's all about the contract, isn't it?
Green - you have the nerve to disclose some applicant histories in public, making sure to try and create a negative opinion about anyone who wants to work in CM, while talking about the "calling?" You are a pathetic, unprofessional, unethical whiner - if in fact you have anything to do with CMPD. If not, you're just another stupid hater. Either way, just go away.
Thankfully the general public doesn't see this crap, and still respects cops for their honorable service.
And now they wonder why Orange County CA is now being investigated for CORRUPTION.
1,932 applicants AND ONLY 5 PEOPLE SELECTED? = DOH?
I do beleive, my dear Watson that there be something afoot in thier lame selection process.
In the meantime the Riggy is holding street festivals with the Foo Fighters across the street from the police department on the fairgrounds and literally in the streets when the mayor Riggy himself stated that "the City of Costa Mesa is mathematically bankrupt and there is no job creation going on here in the city"
And when a police officer gives you an arrest certificate for a crime that you know that you did not commit because the police officer did not listen then what are you supposed to do about that? This was issued to me after the fact because the police officer did not know what was going on because he arrived on scene afterwards, and I am still having to be dealing with it. I have to go to/through a trial because of this.
