Planning Commission Agenda

A LIGHT WEEK?
Although I cringe as I type this because history shows that just when you think you've got an easy week ahead of you something breaks and all heck breaks loose, it does appear that the Costa Mesa Planning Commission has the only big action so far for the week.

MIGHT BE A SHORT MEETING
You can read the agenda for the meeting, which will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, March 11th in City Council chambers, HERE.  Based on what we see there, it could be an early evening for those of us who actually watch these things.

GENERAL PLAN REVIEW
The Consent Calendar, which normally would be voted on in one vote unless someone pulls on or more of the items, contains the 2012 General Plan Review, HERE.

PITFIRE PIZZA EXTENDED HOURS
There are three Public Hearings on the agenda.  The first, HERE, is the request for a conditional use permit for extended hours to 2:00 a.m. for the PitFire Artisan Pizza shop - the shop that donated space and pizza for Mayor Jim Righeimer's "Meet the Mayor" event on February 28th.  I guess they want to sell more alcohol at their little room at the back - where Righeimer held court - until 2:00 a.m.  The staff recommends approval, so I make no other comment except to, again, observe the interesting timing of this request and the mayor's event.  Since the planning commission is stacked with Righeimer sycophants, I have no doubt this will pass.

BEACH HUT DELI
The second item deals with a new store just a block away on 17th Street - The Beach Hut Deli - and the request for another conditional use permit for beer and wine sales and extended hours for this shop at the corner of 17th Street and Irvine Avenue, HERE.  Although the staff report says there is adequate parking, I'm not sure they've visited that center during peak hours.  Even though significant changes have been made to the parking lot, during lunch time it is overflowing, with cars backed out onto both streets trying to gain entrance.

PACIFIC AVENUE DEVELOPMENT
The remaining item is a request for the common interest development out on Pacific Avenue.  You can read the staff report HERE.

WATCHING THE CHAIRMAN
I'm going to be very interested to see how new Chairman Jim Fitzpatrick runs this meeting.  He was clearly off his game at the last meeting, so I'll be watching to see if he picks it up Monday.

3600 sq foot condos in a so-so area? Each floor being 1500 sq feet+ with extra rooms such as "yoga rooms", "game room" & "media rooms" all on the upper floor?. I suspect multiple families are going to be shacking up per unit..

What kind of pizza place is open until 2:00am? The kind that caters to drunks and wants to sell more booze to people already hammered. Sounds like a bad idea, so that means the dumb-ass Planning Commission will approve it.

No more fast food places, bars, coffee houses, liqour stores, pot dispensaries, adult stores, late night convenient stores etc.etc. These types of places don't attract families, only developers with connections to the City Council and their frat boys followers.
