Parent Arrested Following Estancia Lockdown

A SCARY EVENT
According to a press release issued by the Costa Mesa Police Department a few minutes ago, just before 1:00 p.m. today the parent of an Estancia High School Student - a man named Michael B. McHugh - was arrested at the school after an altercation when he was refused permission to pick up his daughter.

RESTRAINING ORDER
According to the information provided, there is a restraining order in place against McHugh  prohibiting contact with his daughter, which is the reason school personnel refused to let him take her with him.  At some point McHugh apparently told school officials he had a gun, at which time security personnel restrained him, called police and locked down the school.

ARREST AND MEDICAL TREATMENT
A replica handgun was found in McHugh's possession and was seized by police personnel.  He was arrested and transported to a hospital for complaints of an injury.

THE SYSTEM WORKED
It sounds like the procedures in place at Estancia High School for such matters worked.  The staff and the CMPD are to be commended for their prompt resolution to this problem.

WHAT AN IDIOT!
As an aside, I find myself wondering what kind of a lunatic would waltz into a school anywhere in Southern California and announce he had a gun - particularly now, when every police officer in the region is still on a razor's edge following the whole Chris Dorner event?  Geez!

When we got an All-Call...I was thinking,"thank god, my kid is home with fever...." What kind of mother am I to say such thing? But you know what, I know she's safe here with me.

Small wonder that guy has a restraining order against him. It's important that we as a community know our neighbor and can recognize signs from someone like him so something like this is predictable. What if he had a real gun? Probably would have wanted to use it.

The BB gun wielding "parent", had to go to the hospital because he got the crap beat out of him by the assistant principal, who I heard beat him so hard he busted open his own hand. That's what I'm talking about. They responded like heroes. They didn't know that wasn't a real gun when they rushed towards it.

Excellent response by Estancia administrators, staff and CMPD.
I'm glad no one was hurt.
What was this guy thinking?

Lunacy like Dorner's often triggers more lunacy.
Glad the kids, staff, and responders are safe.
When did the mayor arrive on the scene?

"When did the mayor arrive?"

I didn't hear that he ever did. Taking cues from Monahan?

If not, then there must not have been an opportunity for him to be on TV or radio. Maybe the golf cart crew will hold a press conference.
