Salcedo Resigns From Planning Commission!
I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN BETTER...
So, I figured I'd stay home tonight and not travel over to City Hall to watch the Planning Commission meeting. I figured most of what they were going to deal with would be pretty mundane and I could always watch it on my tape. Silly me!
SALCEDO BAILS OUT
Planning Commissioner Edward Salcedo announced at the beginning of the meeting that he was resigning for personal reasons and that the meeting tonight would be his last. He leaves his position on the commission after serving only half of his term, which expires in February, 2015.
SEVEN SLOTS TO FILL TOMORROW
This now means that the City Council will have seven (7) positions to fill Tuesday night instead of six - three (3) on the Planning Commission and four (4) on the Parks and Recreation Commission.
ALL BUT A DONE DEAL
If there was any doubt that Jim Fitzpatrick was going to have a warm seat waiting for him tomorrow night, that is gone now.
CLARK - IN OR OUT?
In an interesting sidebar, Vice Chair Sam Clark ran the meeting instead of Chairman Colin McCarthy. I'm trying to decide whether that was an audition or a swan song. I guess we'll find out tomorrow.

What a slap in the face to those qualified and somewhat qualified applicants who blindly supported Riggy during the charter fiasco..
welcome to PC Byron and Fitz! shout out to sk
The sudden rash of resignations, creating appointable vacancies just hours before the next Council meeting, is just a coincidence.
There is no "OCGOP Takeover" of Costa Mesa. James Righeimer is simply a concerned citizen who wants to better the community.
James Fitzpatrick is a highly qualified businessman with extensive international experience who should always be on the public payroll in one form or another.
Steven Mensinger is a scholar and humanitarian we are lucky to have serving us.
Oh- Who do I send my Planning Commission app to again? :)
lol...thanks for making me smile:) go fitzy
Is there something we can do to get a real reporter or journalist into this city? This has been a golden opportunity for some young cub reporter to really make a name for himself and all we get are the extremely low talents and efforts of Serna Zint and so many other incompetent Daily Pilot stooges. There was one really good reporter in the last 5 years (Mike Reicher) and because of his talents he didn't last long and was very smartly lured away by the OCR.
Can we put out a national ad Costa Mesa is ripe for some young gun to really make his career.
Dear Big Boss Man,
When can I buy the 19th Street Bridge from you? Make me an offer that sounds just as good and decent as your previous post.
What an absolute joke and travesty. Please, please, please shock the world and do the right thing, CC. Yeah, fat chance.
big boss man , you are correct! This is not a ocgop takeover. It is simply long time, engaged Costa Mesa residents willing to serve on the commissions. No outsiders, they all live here. They may be republicans but that is still allowed today, barring an executive order against it. And yes, we are blessed to have Steve Mensinger who volunteers more in a month than most citizens will in a whold lifespan. Riggy, well, who knows his motives except him. What he says sounds ok, what the detractors speculate does not. Same with Genis. Does she want to stop all growth? Does she want to limit water supply to accomplish this. Much speculation but no hard facts. hey sk
Troll:
"..Steve Mensinger who volunteers more in a month.."
Any job leads panning out for Steve?
BBM, you wrote
"James Fitzpatrick is a highly qualified businessman with extensive international experience who should always be on the public payroll in one form or another."
Really? Now you are supporting making someone a public employee for life?
Isn't that the 'enemy' in your eyes or did you do a 180?
Also, what is this "international experience" he has?
@ go fitzy--Big Boss Man was making a joke and you fell for it. Everything he wrote is sarcastic in nature.
Riggy a concerned citizen-classic
Fitzpatrick a highly qualified businessman-unbelievable
Mensinger a scholar-good one. He says he went to USC, but did he graduate or just party. I partied at UCSD once, does that that I mean I went to UCSD?
I don't feel blessed to have Mensinger, and with my dwindling vocabulary, I can't think of a word to describe a self-serving volunteer, who is only in it for the benefit of himself. Any others helped along the way were mere fodder in his plan to get what he wanted. The only word coming to mind is "prick" - and that's probably not allowed on this blog - so in the future I'll just refer to those volunteers as "mensingers."
Thank you Jim Fitzpatrick for trying to fix the corrupt and broken system. Thanks for trying to put out to bid a trash contract. Thanks for wearing something other than track suits to a Sanitary District meeting. Thanks for disrupting the good old boy network that forces us to pay more for our trash than our neighbors in Newport Beach. Change starts at the special districts. Hopefully, others will step up to challenge these dirty old men.
Eileen, your vocabulary certainly has dwindled. your choice of the word pr**k was not allowed on this blog at the beginning of the year but the number of comments went way down so now the insults are back! good timing. at least you can give Mensinger credit for patience. Because if he did all the volunteering only for his end benefit he sure did a lot of years of service before it paid off. Note that Weitzberg and Stephens did literally nothing yet were rewarded with being in the DP 103 for losing a council election! And YOU "tracksuits": spot on !! these guys go functions where everyone is in suits and they are in hawaiin shirts (mumu style) or the track suit. sk
Dear #9 - What do you mean that Stephens and Weitzberg did nothing? Do you know them? Do you know everything they have done in their lives?
There are literally thousands of volunteers who do their work quietly; in it for the good it does and not seeking recognition. You seem to echo what I hear at the City Council meetings: It seems the only acceptable volunteerism is football. People accused Wendy Leece of non-involvement with the students too, but she puts her efforts into academics, which have more lasting and reaching benefits and very little public recognition in this town.
So before you bash people, ask about them. You might be pleasantly surprised at how much good they are doing in the world.
*LOL* International experience? Do they have those horrible mobile car washes abroad?
