Council Calls Special Meeting Tomorrow
The Costa Mesa City Council called a Special Meeting of the council tomorrow, Wednesday, July 25th, in City Council Chambers at City Hall at 4:30 p.m. to discuss labor negotiations. This will be a Closed Session, so the council will slip out of the chambers once the roll is taken and the item is read and deliberate in a private venue.
There's no way of telling how long that meeting will go, nor will we know if there will be anything for the contract City Attorney, Tom Duarte, to "report out". I'll report if there's anything TO report.
POSSIBLE SCHEDULE CONFLICT
We do know that the Parks and Recreation Commission holds its meeting at 6:00 p.m. tomorrow in the council chambers.

I truly hope that you are right and this is a meeting where deals can be worked out.
Given this councils history of fire ready aim. I will continue to be cynical until I see something that makes me believe otherwise.
can't get two cops for 150K. they are very expensive. One and a quarter cops perhaps but not going to be any cop hires until 2nd tier pension worked out. Due to election, unions most likely won't give in at this time. It would be a victory for Riggy and they are hoping for a change in council so the can keep all the gold.
Puppetroll2chins- you couldnt be more wrong. The ball has been in the city's court for months. The council is trying to drag their feet until the timing is more contiguous to the election, so they can go in with a win. If they had approved months ago without continuing to point the finger all these months, they would lose any bump in the polls for getting it done. Politics is timing.
Cops are cops. Their testosterone prohibits strategic thinking. Just look at the last election.
There will not be a ny changes before their contracts expire.
You blame Council. We blame the public safety unions. Hogs get slaughtered.
M's don't need this win before the election and they know it.
So I keep reading about polling, and the Ms seem to be feeling smug as usual that they have this thing all but locked up in Nov.
Who conducts the polls, and who are they polling exactly? I don't know a single registered voter in Costa Mesa that's been polled, regardless of what side they are on, and I know a lot of people and am not shy about asking.
Just curious why they would have such a (false?) sense of security, because it sure as hell seems like things could be slipping away. Have they polled since the Banning Ranch vote? It's quite possible they might see a dip after that fiasco. You can't just poll Riggy's rolodex.
I don't know a single voter in Costa Mesa that will vote for them, except that demented little chipmunk with this thumb up in the air. I've not found anyone who supports them.
I know of no one that supports this council. Virtually everyone I've spoken to is voting against them, for a variety of reasons. They must have their heads in the sand, or are simply not asking....
