Military Affairs Team Needs Volunteers
A FEW GOOD VOLUNTEERS
The Costa Mesa Military Affairs Team is looking for volunteers to help formulate and carry out plans to help Costa Mesa veterans.
THE "1/5"
The primary focus initially will be our adopted Marine battalion, the 1/5 Marines, presently stationed at Camp Pendleton and scheduled to be deployed again to the Middle East later this fall. They are commanded by Lt. Col. Terry Johnson, shown here at a recent City Council meeting.
NEED MORE FOLKS...
This new effort, launched a couple months ago by former planning commissioner Jim Fitzpatrick and councilwoman Wendy Leece, has been hampered by lack of interest by members of the public. As a result, it's been difficult to sharpen the focus of this effort.
NEXT MEETING ON WEDNESDAY
If you're interested in providing support to "our" Marines and other Costa Mesa Veterans, please attend the next meeting of the Military Affairs Team on Wednesday, June 27, 2012, in Conference Room 1A at 5:30 at City Hall. The flier for the meeting follows. Click on the image to enlarge it.

Could it be that despite the positive goals of the program, that the presence of either Leece of Fitzy (just to be fair!) precludes some that otherwise may want to pitch in? It's no secret that fitzy is publicly engaged in not 'getting along' with fellow board members. Avoidance is a strategy to keep peace and harmony, isn't it? Peace by non-association, despite the rewards.
I have to agree with the previous comment. I wanted to volunteer as my father and grandfather are vets; however, Dan Baker, and Fitzy kept me from wanting to help. Those two are not the nicest fellas.
I don't want anything to do with Fitzpatrick. He comes off uneducated and as a shill for Righeimer. Semper Fi.
Let's try to be grownups here and take the higher ground for the benefit of America and those who are serving to keep America free. I am disheartened by all the pettiness. My thought was that this project----The Military Affairs Team would bring us together. Wendy
As noble as the goal of this group might be, we vets will take care of our fellow vets. We don't need the likes of Fitzy, Riggy, Mensy or any of these schmucks who never put on a uniform in the service of their country taking up our cause. Frankly, it is insulting. They do it because it seems like it's patriotic and will curry political points with those who think like them.
Sacrifice to them is having to put up with domestic beer at frat parties. They don't know what honor is. And I personally find it insulting that Mensy rolls around town with a Marine Corps sticker on his truck. He didn't serve he doesn't have a son serving. Steve, when you or yours put themselves in harm's way you can play Marine supporter. Until then, it's just bad form.
Fitzy's only in it for the positive PR. Sorry it couldn't be run by someone not so polarizing.
Most every man and a few women in my family have served or are still serving in the military. I have so much respect, admiration, and appreciation for those who serve our country. My father who I lost in February of this year, loved this country and loved volunteering to serve and honor other fellow veterans. It was something we used to do together. Now that he is gone, it's something I choose to continue to do not only to honor him but to honor all those who give so much for OUR freedom. It's for that reason that I can and will be a part of this regardless of who else in involved. I truly hope those of you who want to take part will. I would be grateful for the showing of support for our veterans and for the opportunity to work side by side with quality people. I hope you will reconsider.
