Special Meeting Canceled!
CHARTER MEETING CANCELED!
In a brief announcement distributed just after 3:00 today Costa Mesa Communication Director Bill Lobdell announced that the Special Council Meeting called to place Jim Righeimer's Charter on a special ballot in June scheduled for this afternoon following the Study Session has been canceled!
Here's the full text of his message:
The special Costa Mesa City Council meeting scheduled today to discuss holding a municipal election on the City’s charter measure has been canceled. The regularly scheduled Council Study Session will begin today at 4:30 p.m., as planned.
WHAT NOW?
The question now is - What happens to the Charter Scheme at this point? The clock is ticking and if they're serious about getting this thing before the voters in June they may not have enough time.
OTHER MEETINGS STILL ON THE SCHEDULE
Lobdell was unavailable for further comment at this time. I'll post more when I know more. The remainder of the meetings originally scheduled for today - the Study Session at 4:30 and the Successor Agency meeting at 6:30 - are still going forward.

What is going on? Is this meeting really cancelled or another ploy by the council...OMG what is going on, this is so bizarre....
With apologies to Mel Brooks, what in the Wide World of Sports is going on down there? Fire, ready, aim... slow your roll, City Council, slow your roll. Guess those high priced attorneys might have told them to chill.
Who has been placed on administrative leave pending an inquisition?
Someone must pay the price for this mistake!
Thank you for the updates! You are more reliable and transparent than our pricey city appointee.
Debby heard it from Robin Leffler. When she told me, my first reaction was "Did you check the email address?" -- worrying that somebody spoofed CM4RG. I never used to be that paranoid; was always more trusting. Maybe it's the viral emails on the 'net that put me in such a frame of mind; or maybe it's the suspicion that the council might be playing dirty pool.
I was contemplating writing another song for this one. Now I can do it at leisure...
I am reminded of a particular judo workout I was once doing with Ron, who was about my height but 100 pounds heavier. We were doing matwork; he had almost closed the deal on me in a kami-shiho-gatame (third immobilization, for those who follow the French system). I was not in as good shape as I should have been, and that two-sixty was about to cook my goose. Thinking in terms of dirty tricks, I shouted as loudly as I could, from underneath, "NO KISSING!!". He hesitated for a fraction, giving me the opening I needed to escape and choke him.
The special meeting seems like council's "NO KISSING!!!" ploy here; what does its cancellation mean?
No doubt whatsoever that they will try to bring it up again. Maybe this week, maybe next. No matter that the military ballots are going out the door...
we will vote before November, guaranteed. No hurry, deadlines have been met. You are all hereby on notice that the date of the Charter election is the Fifth of June, Year of Our Lord 2012 from the hours of 7 am to 8 pm. So it is said, so it will be. To all who doubt, fairly warned be thee sez I.
Our corrupt city council is so inept they can't even break the law without screwing it up somehow.
I wonder how the Riggy supporters can even show their faces in public. They should be embarrassed and ashamed.
I heard it got canceled because Bevers' normal handler hadn't got the message about the special meeting and was unable to change his plans and we all know that Bever wasn't going to able to dress himself, find his keys, find his car, start his car, drive, locate City Hall, and find the Council Chambers by the start of the meeting. Thanks Bever for being yourself.
In the study session it was explained that they wouldn't be going forward for a June special election.
Obviously, we only need to hold meetings when the outcomes are already predetermined.
Any time Poser Joe makes commments they should all be looked upon as to having the same accuracy as the comment above. The guy is clueless. Congratulations residents you are safe until November. So let it be said, so let it be done.
Many thanks Pot Stirrer for noticing the lack of date and time cited in the notice:) It seems we, the concerned non-union people, are gaining in our fight against our unethical council members. I'm sure these guys are not finished embarrassing themselves yet...
So I guess if they don't have the election in June, they can't count the votes themselves. That levels the playing field somewhat. Unfortunately, I believe 'not in blue Joe' might be right. This isn't over by a longshot. They're going to keep trying to screw us.
I'm sure it was canceled because there's just too much heat on them right now. Believe me when I tell you that the entire 5th floor along with strategically placed moles all around city hall and on the union board (like we don't know who they are) are hard at work planning their next move to completely destroy our once great city.
What I don't understand is how employees can go against employees. No matter how much you talk to Lobdell or Mensinger in the parking lot, you WILL be gone once their charter gets pushed through. I guarantee it!
Heads and chins up boys and girls, this fight is NOT over yet!
It seems like Jim was saying that he couldn't recommend wasting any more of the City's resources on trying to have a June election and was trying to blame it on everyone and everything except their own mad rush and mishandling. he threw in something about being sorry for people who called him who felt as if their vote had been stolen. But it was as if he was speaking in some strange and garbled form of English, I'm waiting on the translation.
I'd like to hope the councilboys had a moment of sanity. We've been waiting so long for the other shoe to drop, nothing will surprise me. I think Mike M may have guessed right, someone strongly advised them there was no legal way to go for June. They have a track record of ignoring advice, but maybe someone also clued them in on how their silly games are alienating the voters.
Title 20 is correct. There is so much backstabbing and other deplorable behavior a city hall. Employees truly believe that if they suck up to those on the 5th floor, they will be saved. Don't count on it. Oh and the truth will come out about Julie Folcik and it won't be pretty.
I too agree with title 20. The entire crew of the costa mesa daily lies in a minute are on the board and pretend to be to on the employees side. Its pathetically disgusting to watch them in action. One even chose to abstain from a crucial vote.
