Charter Meeting Wednesday

IN ANTICIPATION...
OK, sports fans.... just in case I'm too thrashed from tonight's City Council meeting to post anything, here's a reminder.

INFORMAT
ION ONLY
Tomorrow, Wednesday, January 4th, the City Staff will present an informational meeting on the proposed Charter scheme being pushed by Mayor Pro Tem Jim Righeimer. The meeting is open to the public and will begin at 7:00 at the Neighborhood Community Center, 1845 Park Avenue, Costa Mesa. That's at Lions Park, near the library. You'll know you're close when you see the homeless folks.

CMTV WILL TAPE IT
Costa Mesa Television (CMTV) will be on hand to record the event for later viewing on Time Warner Cable Channel 24 (Channel 99 on ATT U-verse). When that replay schedule is announced I'll post it for you.

CITY SOLICITING QUESTIONS

This should be a very interesting meeting. The City has been soliciting input from residents and have made available on the City web site a simple form to use to direct questions to the staff. They've also provided links to the Charter drafted by Righeimer and other charters from several other cities plus information from the California League of Cities web site that is very helpful. When you go to the web site you'll see the banner above. That's the link to provide information.

ASK QUESTIONS AND DEMAND ANSWERS
Since Righeimer seems determined to jam this concept down our throats, composed a draft to suit his own personal political agenda and get the Charter question on the June ballot, it's very important for us all to pay attention, ask questions and demand answers before we get too far down the road on this one.

FIRST PUBLIC HEARING NEXT TUESDAY

Next week, on Tuesday, January 10th, the City Council will have a Special Meeting i
n Council Chambers at 7:00 to hold the first public hearing on the Charter. I'll remind you of that meeting on Monday or Tuesday.
