Snoopy's Progress

CHECKING THE CONSTRUCTION PROGRESS
Although we had a prior social engagement out of town, my wife and I made a stop at City Hall this morning around 10:30 and found a veritable beehive of activity, with many volunteers working hard to get the various components of the Snoopy House display placed on the lawn.
Among the hardworkers I saw Steve Mensinger, Jim Righeimer, Bill Lobdell, Tom Hatch, Terry Shaw and Larry Weichmann and head elf Jim Fitzpatrick - and many others I couldn't identify.
GREAT JOB SO FAR!
We stopped again on our way home around 4 p.m., just as the crew was wrapping things up for the evening. Clearly, much progress had been made. Kudos to all those volunteers who contributed time and, in a few cases, money and chow, to help make this wonderful event come true.
GRAND UNVEILING TUESDAY EVENING

As I understand it, the Grand Unveiling (turning on the lights and other moving parts) will take place on Tuesday, December 13th, at 5:30 p.m. Since the weather report calls for rain Sunday night through, maybe, Tuesday, everyone is hoping that forecast is wrong.
TRYING TO BEAT THE RAIN
Tomorrow, Sunday, will be another full day of final preparations and testing for the grand event Tuesday. Good luck to all involved as you work hard to beat the storm.
AND NOW, A LITTLE "JINGLE BELLS"

Flo, do I need to wear tin foil on my head to understand what you are saying? Do you meet as a secret society? Does Greg Ridge, Sandy Genis, Robin Dafler, Tamara and the rest of the lumTin fringe help you heat voices ?

Can you please figure out a way to generate tax revenue? That would be a big idea

Anyone else tired of seeing the Lil Stevie and his boy pic on the Daily Pilot?
At least they will have to remove it during the campaign if he runs!

Me:

I'll pay an extra half cent sales tax in the city if Das Riggmarshal and his gang leave CM forever.

The DP online running Mensinger's photo continuously for the last 5 years has failed to generate favorable polling figures for him. In fact, they've declined.

New designer glasses are not helping.

734 Pop Warner mentions have had no effect.

Plan B:

At the next city council meeting, Riggy will announce that Mensinger, not Clark Kent, is really Superman.

Calling all Martians, if you want to heat voices, try the colander. It's a more updated, fashion forward look too. But if tinfoil is helping you, do whatever you need to feel comfortable and safe.

Happy Holidays.

Oh, tax revenue...how about that Business license increase. We've mentioned that many times. What is the hang-up? Too effective, practical, common sense? Not controversial enough, won't generate a lot of inflammatory and divisive news coverage?

"First, we need to maximize revenues. We should study the city's business license fees, for instance, which haven't been revised in more than 25 years (any change will need to be approved by voters, likely in June 2012)." _ Steve Mensinger June 9th Daily Pilot.

Every speaker against this council, has been bringing this up at every meeting since the "budget crisis" sky is falling rhetoric first started.

It's THE SOLUTION.....IT'S REVENUE,.....IT'S LONG OVER DUE...IT NEEDED TO BE DONE FIRST....but it's NOT BEING DONE.

Sorry, I'm not an "all caps kind of guy"......but Martians drunkin' blogging hit a nerve.

BTW, Steve wasn't the first one to proclaim that we need to raise our business fees.........so don't even try.

Gericault,
Agreed, the business license fee structure needs a good, hard look. The problem is, it CANNOT be changed until it is on the ballot of an election where a council is elected - next November. Yes, they should look at it. Maybe beginning in May or thereabouts when we know the fiscal condition for this year.
