Fair Board Unanimously Rescinds Tel-Phil Termination
UNANIMOUS VOTE TODAY
Sources from the meeting of the 32nd District Agriculture Association (Orange County Fair Board) today advised me that the Board voted unanimously to rescind the termination notice previously issued to four-decade swap meet operator, Tel-Phil Enterprises. Apparently Dave Ellis and Dale Dykema were absent from this meeting. Sounds to me like they were able to wet their finger, stick it in the air to see which way the wind was blowing and decided to absent themselves rather than be seen voting against the majority on the Board - but I don't know that for sure.
RFP FOR NEW VENDORS CANCELED
I'm also told that the next item on the agenda involving Requests for Proposals for a new Swap Meet operator was pulled. Naturally, since it is now irrelevant.
GOOD NEWS ALL AROUND
This is good news for Jeff and Bob Teller who own Tel-Phil, the vendors at the Orange County MarketPlace (swap meet) and the residents of Orange County who visit the MarketPlace each week. It also makes a new tone of conciliation between the Fair Board and those who have opposed some of their recent moves - the sale, etc. Norberto Santana, Jr., in an article in the Voice of OC, HERE, had this to say:
Fair Board Chairwoman Joyce Tucker, who took over the reigns from Ellis, said she wants her tenure to be known for peace, civility and transparency as opposed to the heated debate, secret negotiations and controversy of the past two years.

"The sale is behind us," Tucker said. "We're trying to move forward."
A NEW ERA BEGINS
So, let's see how this plays out. I think Joyce Tucker has it right and that, perhaps, we can put this rancorous chapter in the Fairgrounds saga behind us.

Hold on - why should Tel Phil get the concession outright? What about the possibility of other vendors running the Marketplace. I have friends who are vendors, and they say Tel Phil is lazy, does not market and provides terrible service.
42 years of monopoly. No bid again? Weak Board leadership.
Anyone else think Geoff West is officially a Liberal?
Potbelly-I agree with you, it should have gone out to bid. As for the 2nd part of your comment:
"Anyone else think Geoff West is officially a Liberal?"
Stick to the discussion.
It really is amazing to watch Geoff, Sandy and Greg twist themselves in knots defending the back room deals and money politics that have kept Tel-Phil as the operators of The Marketplace for 42 years - despite declining revenues and complaints from vendors.

Aren't these the same people who keep bitching about the alleged back room delaings of our council?
The hypocrisy is really quite amazing.
Hypocrites, no it is not amazing. If nothing else, Geoff is consistent: Anything supported by Dave Ellis is opposed by Geoff. When the news of getting rid of Tel Phil came up, Geoff accused Ellis of shenanigans. But now that a deal has been reached without opposition from Ellis, it can't possibly be because there was some arm-twisting and deal-making by the voting members to shut any other bidders out. Nope - has to be all good because Ellis wasn't there. I'm getting more and more disappointed with this blog and the accusations without any evidence. It's irresponsible and cheap.
Hypocrite,
What if it turns out that Sandy Genis has actually been paid by Teller? Now that would be a story.
But, The Pot Stirrer, or City Council Jester would rather throw emotional darts at Council than ask the question of Genis.
Can you imagine if Caption Pot Belly actually asked the question of Genis? Sandy, have you ever been paid by Teller or TelPhil? What is the source of your income?
If Sandy does run for Council, bet your Centennial Farm that question gets vetted.
HypocriteS,
What if it turns out that one of you actually had an original thought?
Didja hear Righeimer's starting a national movement?
Yes, it's true- "Occupy HomeTown Buffet."
So Tel Phil shoud have to bid on a contract the already have, you guys are idiots. When the contract is up they will have to bid but it is not up get it? Ellis? Shenanigans? No way except if he is not indited in the next year you get a free hotdog.
Why won't Geoff West inquiring of Sandy Genis is getting paid by Teller?
When was the last time the flea market went out to bid?
Why does Geoff only write and ask questions about people he does not like?
It has been nice & quite while the Pot Stirrer takes a break
