Osama bin Ladin Dead! (AMENDED)

PRESIDENT ANNOUNCES BIN LADEN DEATH
Tonight, in a 10 minute announcement beginning at approximately 8:35 p.m., President Barack Obama announced that Osama bin Ladin - the author of terrorist activities against the United States and many of its allies for more than two decades - has been killed. It's about time!

RIPS AN OLD SCAB OFF MEMORIES OF 9/11/01
It's been nearly ten years since the cowardly attacks on the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and a near miss against another site in Washington, D.C. that ended up in a field in Pennsylvania took the lives of nearly 3,000 people and changed our world as we knew it - perhaps forever.

RENEWED APPREHENSION OF RETRIBUTION
There are fears tonight that the death of bin Ladin might spark an increase in terrorist attacks against our country and others. I have no doubt that this event will spark reaction from those who seemed determined to destroy our way of life. I'm equally sure that our government and the brave men and women who are sworn to protect us will continue to do their jobs.

AS A REMINDER....
In case you've forgotten what this is all about, here's a link to an entry I wrote about 18 months ago which includes a couple very good video clips that will help remind you just why we must

NEVER FORGIVE AND NEVER FORGET!

A sincere "THANK YOU" to all the military men & women that have sacrificed there lives & families so that we can live our American way of life of freedom & the pursuit of happiness.

Just remember that some our very own CM police officers serve as reservists in the military, as well as all the CMFD crew members that volunteered during the 9/11 recovery too. Thank you for your admirable daily efforts in these most difficult times at home & abroad.

Righeimer and Mensinger will somehow claim this as their own victory. Afterall, they wear red ties all the time, making them real patriots.

Something that many aren't aware of (and maybe should take a moment to think about) is the public safety people here in OC are no different than those in New York City or anywhere else in this country. Many of them are veterns that after serving their country are now serving the public here.

When the Trade Center went down, Firefighters from Costa Mesa and Newport Beach went to NY on their own time and ran calls on FDNY engines to help New York and their brother FFs manage the tremendous burden they had to deal with.

Today we read a lot of comments that these same public servants are greedy thugs and a burden on the tax payer because they are compensated with a upper middle income wage and retirement.

When a tragedy the magnatude of the trade center or the tsunamis in Japan come to OC, the police and fire here, just like in New York, will be the men and women running to help while the Barrys of this world pass them in the other direction slipping in their stuff.

I really hope the city council bans fireworks and while they are at it how about banning all methods of creating fire. Since fire can also burn kids, animals, etc.. I love you nanny state. <3 <3 <3

oooh and pointy objects gotta ban those too.

I remember last September, (was it that short a time ago?) when all the cabal leaders,Riggy, Monahan, Mensinger, Fitzy, McCarthy, were putting "9-11 Always Remember, Never Forget" on their facebook pages .Of course that was a month before the elections. Now these same people are painting these public safety employees as the villians. If I ever see another 9-11 reference from these hypocrites, I'm calling them out on it.

Rules and laws are to protect the masses from the idiots. We can call the police without a confrontation.Common sense and respect for others is a lost character trait. Don't run red lights, don't drive drunk, We see these events everyday. Don't throw fireworks on other peoples roofs or in park fields, or light them in doors on the carpet. You take the tools of distruction out of the hands of children and idiots. On the 4th weekend when that neighbor is having that two day allnight party throwing sparklers in the air or shooting off bottle rockets with 50 of his druk buddies, sit on your roof with a hose for 2 or 4 days. Don't call the police because it's legal.

I saw a flier on one of the blogs from the CMPD union that brags that our Police are the highest paid in Southern California. Doesn't sound like "upper middle class" to me. Is the union lying?

It would appear, again, Greg Ridge does not have command of the facts. Just like when he tried to tell us that residents and business people were behind Repair Costa Mesa, now we know different.

I do not ever remember posting for 9-11. However, I am a supporter of the Marines.

And, I support Public Safety, just not their unsustainable pensions.

I am sorry that Greg Ridge, Sandy Genis, Unions and others cannot make that distinction, and have to resort to emotional arguments.

I am not sure what happened to Greg Ridge? I have enjoyed discussions with him, and have appreciated his insights. But, when he gets on issues like this, or the Fair, he becomes a different person. Therefore I have started a group called “Repair Greg Ridge” … wish me luck.

Jimmy Fitzy,
In the eyes of most employees the fact that your pals are attempting to destroy their livelihood without so much as an offer of negotiation before disemboweling the staff of this city is an emotional issue. I guess the specter of losing a job doesn't carry much weight with a guy who apparently has traded entrepreneurial employment for a spot at the government troughs at the Sanitary District and Planning Commission.

And, I must say I'm a little disappointed and feeling jilted. You've abandoned your crusade to save my soul for one to "Repair Greg Ridge". By the way, I've been wondering how you like being the "Wendy Leece" of the Sanitary District? You know, at the wrong end of 4-1 votes.... Just curious.

Mr. Fitzpatrick, take comfort in the insults from the this blog. When West compliments you, go running for the hills. I'm surprised to see you on here. This group of the same 15 disgruntled employees posting under lots of names is getting old. By the way, have you noticed that the blog comments on the Daily Pilot get quiet around lunchtime and after 5. You see, that's when the paid union bloggers take their breaks and go home. It's so apparant it's sad! They actually have to pay people to blog under pretend names. That's how pathetic the unions are in this town. P.S. Fitzpatrick, thanks for using your real name. Only a few of us on here do that!

Boy, the comments on this one veered off message just a bit. I'm just glad they finally got Bin Laden - world feels just a little safer today for my kids, who weren't even an idea yet when this happened nearly 10 years ago.

Thanks to all involved in this operation, from the bottom up to the top.

Time to go find my lapel pin now... and update my Facebook status...

OK, I’ll bite … I have not traded my entrepreneurial efforts for anything. In case you have not noticed, it has been a tough economy. I am more optimistic though. Proposals I have been working on, some for 18-24 months, appear now to be funded. So, wish me luck.

4-1 … yes, the shoe fits. And not just on sanitary District. On PC, sitting in Weather Vane Wendy’s seat, I went down 4-1 on the Triangle Sqr sign, and also the LED at ACE on Harbor. Both good votes that I stand behind.

On Sanitary, I have been advocating to put the Solid Waste Contract out to bid. The 4 other Directors are yet to support this effort. Has not been out to bid in a very long time. And even when we do, we cannot make a change for 6 years based on the structure of the current contract. I think it is fiscally irresponsible not to put out that contract to bid, when 5 recent Bids in other Cities have resulted in a reduction of Rates. I think that is in the best interest of the rate Payer.

I think, over time, I can get the Board to support this effort, but not now. I am 4-1.

Please do not compare me to Wendy Leece. I’d rather be called a boot licker. My finger prints and original thoughts are on many of the efforts in the City. But when you think, and tell others I am merely a follower, it makes my life easier. Thank you.

And, as for the Pancho, I take that comparison with pride. I enjoy the company of Mensinger, personally and professionally. He reminds me of several I have met in my career that I enjoyed rolling up my sleeves with. It is true, in many cases, I was the guy who made his vision happen. I am no pawn, did so willingly. I am proud of the many things we accomplished. With the Brown Act what it is, I think we displayed the best practices of achievement over activity. Mensinger and I have had many disagreements, but never disagreeable.

So, it is with great pride that I accept your 4-1 observation, I appreciate your boot licker distraction and challenge your Pancho moniker if your intent was to suggest we have been “tilting at windmills”.

Lastly, since I have not engaged you in a while, it bugs me when you refer to Council as a Junta. Ben Franklin developed a Junto, google it, it is a model that I think works well today.

Cheers, off to Sacramento to meet with the Legislative folks.

PS My wife would like me to ask you where this trough is that you suggest … she does not see it that way.

You continue to amaze me. Sounds like you've got a "man crush" going with old Steve...

I must confess that I've missed our little jousts - you make it so darn easy!

Have a safe trip - I assume you'll be licking Mansoor's boots on this trip.

I think it's entertaining to see the cops on this blog try to analogize their jobs to our service men and women. Question: do our military heroes get 3% at 50? Do they make $150-$200k per year? Do they have large pensions to spike and double-dip? Do they work 3 days a week? The answer is no. Why? Because Congress knows such extravagent benefits would bankrupt the US. The feds understand, yet our cities don't. We should compensate our police and fire the same as we compensate our military. One is not better than the other. Our cops and fire have been living in a financial fantasy land for years. It's time to wake-up.

OK Fitz, maybe you didn't post a 9-11 tribute, not surprised. Probably was Steve and Gary, waving the flag.
Maybe you haven't noticed but the military are the ultimate public service employees........benefits and all.
If you're wondering why I am so sick of you idiots ruining the city maybe you haven't noticed but a majority of the brain trust is leaving and we're stuck with you midgets.
If you put half as much effort in improving the city , that you personally put into attacking me, you might be worth my tax dollars that goes to feed your kids....but I doubt it.

44 years in Costa Mesa, never worked for the city, am not a cop (go ahead and check - heck, I even use my real name (the M stands for McNiff) - I am as 'qualified' as any of you smug know-it-alls to comment... shoot, I should have waited until I was home from work and ignored my family so I could comment in a Barry-approved time segment. Disagreeing can be so much fun.

Phildo,
I'm not a CM police officer, firefighter, or OCEA member, just a grom-mom that has also lived in CM for 44 years. That's really funny, I grew up just down the street from Mike McNiff in the "Upper-Birds". So he & I have both seen CM evolve over the years, and we call it like we see it. I change my screen name each post because I take these issues serious, but I never take myself serious. So I always choose an appropriate name for each topic, and I post day or night, once maybe twice a week. So I guess you miscalculated again, it's ok though, we're used to it.

Phil,
If you want Police and Fire to be compensated like the military does that mean besides paying them a salary we will be provdiding them with living quarters, food, and health care and a retirement ?
