Steve Mandoki Resigns!

ANOTHER GOOD MAN DEPARTS
This morning Costa Mesa Administrative Services Director Steve Mandoki tendered his resignation to City Chief Executive Officer Tom Hatch. Hatch confirmed the resignation to me a few minutes ago.

LAST DAY ON 4/15/11
According to the email Mandoki sent to city staff today, his last day on the job will be April 15, 2011 and ends his nearly six and half year tenure with The City. No mention has been made about his plans for the future and he is presently away from the office the remainder of this week, returning next Monday.

TOUGH LOSS, ESPECIALLY NOW
In my view, this is a painful loss for The City, particularly at this time. Steve Mandoki is a good man, good at his job and will certainly be missed. Since he was among those receiving 6-month layoff notices two weeks ago, we must assume that Hatch will likely not be in a hurry to replace him, either. We here at A Bubbling Cauldron thank Steve Mandoki for his exemplary service to The City and wish him well.

MAY NOT BE THE LAST TO LEAVE
Because of the hostile work environment that currently exists at City Hall - created by the ham-handed way the current council majority is handling things - I doubt this will be the last senior staffer to bail out. This is just the most recent bad news for our city.

Mandocki was TERRIBLE. Good riddance. We are upside down in our budget because of him. He was our labor negotiator and was awful. We're stuck with our horrific union contracts because he couldn't do better. We blame him for a lot of the mess we're in. What a great day! Rejoice!!!

Man, our new City Manager is cleaning house. I heard Tom Hatch say once that if you're somewhere too long, you run out of fresh ideas. Seems like that was the case with Mandocki. Kind of dry and stale. We'll see if we can get a more energetic replacement.

Potstirrer -- you say this guy was a good man and did a good job and you thanked "Steve Mandoki for his exemplary service". What evidence can you offer to substantiate your attribution of his "exemplary service"? Just that he was able to work for over 6 years for the city? Or is this just another example of you aligning yourself with the city employees and attempting to put the city council in a negative light?

Steve Mandoki is an educated man in the field of Public Administration. His astute people skills and his ability to negotiate were second to none. The haters blogging don't know the man. He and any other department head with any salt have already left or will be leaving shortly. The City of Costa Mesa is doomed to have back door deals and Brown Act violations left and right.

Glad to see him go. I had a problem a few weeks ago where the city messed up some of my paperwork. When I brought it to their attention, the rude worker at the counter said it wasn't her problem.

I wanted to tell her that her type of rudeness is why residents are supportive of outsourcing city staff. It we're going to be treated like $#!& it might as well be by someone who isn't ripping us up with insanely generous benefits.

If there is a replacement, hopefully he/she'l will train the staff to be respectful to residents.

Apparently you are unaware of what occurs in closed session. Steve Mandoki was following the direction he was given by Council to negotiate the contracts. If you insist on blame then watch one of the many archived council videos on line. Those sitting on the dias were the ones calling the shots.

@goodriddance- you just seem bitter not having your way while these employees are being verbally ripped to shreds by self centered people such as yourself... And what's worse is you speak the way you do knowing full well they're getting laid-off and are still forced to serve people like you for the duration. If you can't qualify for something you want or need it IS your problem, not anyone else's! Truth hurts sometimes- they come into work everyday and deal with the painful truth that their job end is near. The least you can do is to simply deal with yourself and not deflect your problem or failure to obtain your need on others. I can only imagine the way people think of you as you turn and leave them. Much like yourself, I'm sure they aren't saying anything to you either.

Workplace intimidation by definition is “to frighten someone into doing or not doing something to create a feeling of fear, awe, or inadequacy in another person."

Sound all too familiar? Everyday City of Costa Mesa employees are working in this environment.

@Badasitis

If the City was a business, it would've gone out of business long ago if staff treats customers the way they do.

I don't give a rats a$$ they're job is near. Norberto Santana reported that RIgheimer said the employees' union negotiated them out of a job. How true that is.

These guys are one step below that Rizzo guy from Bell overpaid jerks who think they rule the city. The end of their fiefdom is near.

@goodriddance - of course you you could care less- and I don't need dollar signs to replace MY words. I agree with you completely. Not only could you care less about what happens to hundreds of working people, you could care less about how people perceive you. You're a lot like most of the council- you don't care who's day you ruin, as long as YOU'RE content- which I'm sure you are... I mean, as long as YOU'RE happy, who cares, right? Seems to be the eerie theme around this lovely city these days. Even with that self serving serving attitude, nothing is improving... "shocker". Keep going with your train of "thought", it's doing a world of good!

I always thought Mandoki looked, acted and sounded like Dilbert.
