New Fairgrounds Partner Announced
Just before 8:00 p.m Wednesday evening the City Manager's office sent out the following press release:
CHANGED CONFIRMED BY AMERICAN FAIRS AND FESTIVALS
Between the time it was distributed and the time I opened it - about an hour - a source sent me a note relaying confirmation from one of the participants from American Fairs and Festivals confirming that they were out and Facilities Management West was now in exclusive negotiations with the city to try to make a deal to purchase the Fairgrounds.
POSITION CHANGED
You may recall that Facilities Management West's original proposal was to purchase the Fairgrounds outright with no public involvement. Apparently, according to the press release above, that position has changed.
FINGERS CROSSED ALL AROUND FOR TOMORROW
Tomorrow, Thursday, representatives of the City will fly to Sacramento for an early morning meeting to try to keep this ball rolling. More later.

At the last minute, the city gets a little more money and the equestrians and marketplace vendors get screwed.....It's always the little guys who get the shaft.
Right now the City of Costa Mesa is NO Better than the Fair Board or The State......selling out the real users of our Fairgrounds to monied special interests.......and why? because just like the state they have a budget deficit. They are willing to compromise everything that we have been fighting for for over a year just to help fill a $$ gap.Well, enjoy your over priced deep-fried twinkies , once a summer, because that's about all we have left.....and that's not what fight was about.
Its real simple guys...AFF would not guarantee payment which would put the general fund or foreclosure on the table...that is a non-starter in negotiations...the equestrians, marketplace, farm etc are all included in the deal!!!enough of the daily pilot printing wrong facts and contriving controversy...
skosh, which "wrong facts" are you referring to? Point me to an article, if you don't mind.
Sorry, Geoff...the original posted article(s) had Facilities "buying" the Fairgrounds, its been changed I rarely read the printed version(though the register may be wrong) my mistake...I guess I need to check my facts too
skosh, I recall that mistake... part of Facilities original pitch was to do this that - buy the Fairgrounds and have no city involvement. If you guys have moved them off that position that's a big step.
What is the new time line? Do you have a specific date by which to accomplish some milepost?
other than asap...not really
