Monday, November 14, 2016 Election Update

HERE'S THE LATEST NUMBERS...
And the counting continues.  The following are the numbers in local races as they appeared today, Monday, November 14, 2016 after the 5:p.m. update by the Orange County Registrar of Voters.  You can check out these and other races at their site by going HERE.

COSTA MESA CITY COUNCIL
Sandy Genis holds a very small, 78 vote, lead over John Stephens.  He, in turn, holds a 1,895 lead over Allan Mansoor. Mansoor leads Mayor Steve Mensinger by 396 votes for the final seat on the dais and holds a 138 vote margin over Jay Humphrey.  Lee Ramos and Al Melone continue to trail the field.

COSTA MESA SANITARY DISTRICT
Jim Ferryman and Art Perry continue to hold large margins over Gary Monahan.  Jim Fitzpatrick and Christopher Luntsford are far back.

 MESA WATER DISTRICT
Incumbent Jim Fisler holds an insurmountable lead over challenger Alex Reich.

MEDICAL MARIJUANA ISSUES
Both citizen-generated issues are failing badly.  Measure X, the City-generated issue which has NO retail sale element in it, seems to be passing handily.

FAIRVIEW PARK
The citizen-generated measure, AA, is passing by a huge margin.  The City-generated measure, placed on the ballot to confuse the voters, is failing at the ballot box.

GROWTH ISSUES
The citizen-generated issue, the so-called Smart Growth Initiative, is passing by a very wide margin.  The City-generated issue, designed to confuse and frighten the voters, is passing, but by a much smaller margin.
VOTE BY DISTRICTS
Unfortunately, this issue - hijacked by Mayor Pro Tem Jim Righeimer - is passing by a wide margin.  It will not meet the goal of enfranchising Latino voters and creates the probability for a corrupt directly-elected mayor.

HOSTILE TAKEOVER OF CMSD BY MESA WATER DISTRICT
This  bogus measure, which has no authority, is passing, due in great part to the avalanche of misleading literature generated by the Mesa Water District flooding mailboxes before the election.

 NEWPORT MESA UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT
All the incumbents continue to lead their challengers.

COAST COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICT
All the incumbents hold very large leads on their challengers here, too.

74TH STATE ASSEMBLY DISTRICT
Incumbent Matt Harper holds a huge lead over Karina Onofre.

37TH STATE SENATE DISTRICT
Incumbent John Moorlach holds a large lead over Ari Grayson.

48 UNITED STATES REPRESENTATIVE DISTRICT
Incumbent Dana Rohrabacher holds a very large lead over Dr. Suzanne Savary.

WHAT'S LEFT TO COUNT?
The Registrar of Voters staff plowed through the ballots and knocked out almost 101,000 since my last report.
Total Ballots Left To Count - 287,875
Vote-by-Mail Ballots Left To Count - 10,088
Provisionals Left To Count - 108,000
Vote-by-Mail Ballots Returned at the Polls Left To Count - 133,270
Election Day Paper Left To Count - 22,500
Eligible Vote-by-Mail Ballots Left To Count -13,917
AND THEY JUST KEEP ON COUNTING
So, the beat goes on, and on, and on.  It seems unlikely that we will have anything close to a final count before December 1st.  The next report will be at 5:00 tomorrow, Tuesday, November 15, 2016.
