Two Women In The News...

SOME EARLY MORNING READING FOR YOU
Before finally hitting the sack this early Sunday morning I'm moved to point out the interesting juxtaposing of two articles in the Daily Pilot online yesterday.

PROFILES OF ANNA VRSKA...
The larger article, HERE, is titled, "Political newcomer making waves in Costa Mesa" and profiles activist Anna Vrska, a virtual unknown in political circle only a few short months ago.  Bradley Zint's excellent article provides us with a very up-close look at the young woman who has stirred things up recently with her inquisitiveness, tenacity and analytical acumen - and her willingness to ask frank and sometimes aggressive questions of local leaders and staffers.  To describe her as a breath of fresh air would be to dramatically understate her impact on local political discussions lately.

...AND MARY HORNBUCKLE
The other article, HERE, which appears online beside the first one, is titled, "Hornbuckle to lead Coast Community College board", in which Hannah Fry makes brief note of the election of Mary Hornbuckle as President of the board and provides a short summary of her history in our community.  Let me fill in some of the blanks for you.

A LIFETIME OF SERVICE
Mary Hornbuckle has lived in Costa Mesa for nearly a half-century.  She holds a BA degree in Organizational Management from what is now known as Vanguard University.  She served on the Costa Mesa City Council for a dozen years, including two as mayor.  She has served on the boards of  Girl Scout Council of Orange County, the Costa Mesa Senior Center, the Costa Mesa Community Foundation and Girls, Inc.  For her outstanding community service she has received many awards, notably the 2001 Orange Coast College Hall of Fame Award and the 1997 Woman of the Year from the Costa Mesa Chamber of Commerce.  She has served the community longer than Vrska has been alive.

AN INTERESTING CONTRAST
I mention these two extraordinary women in this post because, in the case of Hornbuckle, you see a woman who has dedicated a huge portion of her adult life to the community in which she lives and continues to make positive contributions through her leadership and energy, while Vrska is just leaving the starting blocks on what might be a very bright future in community activism and leadership.

FUN WATCHING ANNA LEARN...
It's going to be interesting to watch Vrska in the future.  She acknowledges that she doesn't have all the answers, but has demonstrated the intelligence and tenacity to look for them and her fearlessness makes that pursuit interesting to watch.

...WHILE MARY FACES BIG CHALLENGES
Meanwhile, Hornbuckle faces challenges on the Coast Community College Board that will require all her experience and test her extraordinary leadership skills.

GOOD LUCK, LADIES
We here at A Bubbling Cauldron wish them both well...

"I applaud her getting involved," Mensinger said, "but I think she's young, and she probably would be well-served to understand the art of building consensus." Of course this coming from mr. consensus himself. His idea of consesus must be the 3 stooges bully team on the CMCC? Her smarts can run circles around you steve.

It didn't take Ramos long to play the Spanish card by trying to reprimand Vrska in that language, did it?

Why is he so unpopular with Fairgrounds people?

Kudos to Baugh and Riggy for finding one Hispanic to support the ocgop takeover of Costa Mesa.

Skeptical...my ( or actually a majority of CM residents') sentiments exactly! Has Stevie really befouled our great city with his presence for 30 years? Why do I think that's not true? In the same article, he is quoted as saying "if you said you can't have a person on a body because they're friends or associates, I wouldn't be able to put together any bodies." BS! But let's see... That's exactly what he has done! Stacked them all with his and the RIGmeister's cronies and suck-ups! You are either for (a small number) or against them (majority of CM residents), and if you are opposed to them, as far as they are concerned, you have NO business being involved in civic matters (from serving on committees to being allowed to speak you 3 minutes at cc meetings! )Only in their small world does one (RIGmeister) rig up some made up award to give to one of their own (Stevie) through the RIGmeister's own " Family Action" group! Bunch of self serving BS! And they will tote it like he's been given a Nobel prize. Just like that stupid made up Sunshine Award. They are thoroughly corrupt, immoral, and unethical. Some have mentioned possible mental illnesses of which these guys exhibit symptoms, but look into the clinical definition of a sociopath. I have, as well as have had unfortunately close dealings with that type of individual, and the cc majority's behavior, individually and as a group, demonstrate quite a bit a sociopathic tendencies.... No conscience for one, right or wrong means nothing to them, no thought of consequences of their actions toward anyone, have to control and win at all costs, and lie, use and manipulate, yet portray themselves as victims and have no responsibility in what they have actually done and caused - nothing is ever their fault. The only thing is, none of these 3 come across as charming, dynamic, likable individuals which is also a sociopathic characteristic . Check out the definition. They are very dangerous individuals (and not just because some are violent and murderers - some aren't). And what makes them all the more dangerous is that they think those who do have a conscience and make choices based on right and wrong are idiots and losers. Sound familiar?

Anna might have a bigger consensus than Steve might realize. The difference is Steve's consensus was hand picked for the committee and Anna's is rippling far out into the community .....and growing.

only in costa mesa could a person who just asks for DATA/information prior to making decisions be considered such a wave-maker.
