Arrogance On Parade - Righeimer Speaks
RIGHEIMER'S DAWN ATTACK
This morning, at a time when, according to my sweet and very patient wife, I was softly snoring, Costa Mesa Mayor Jim Righeimer was performing one of his stand-up routines before a group of mostly Newport Beach residents at a breakfast meeting of the Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce.
ANTONIE'S REPORT
According to the lovely and talented Antonie Boessenkool of the Orange County Register, HERE, he told the assembled crowd, "I have no doubt that at the end of the day, we will have a charter on the ballot." He later apparently told the audience, "It's going to pass. It also gives us a lot more leverage to do things right."
EVER THE CLASS ACT
According to Boessenkool's article, Righeimer chided Newport Beach Mayor, Keith Curry, saying "Curry, you've got it made over here." Ever the class act, our mayor. Although I wasn't there, I suspect our friends in Newport Beach felt a whole lot better about Curry as their mayor after watching Righeimer's act.
REALLY?
He also apparently said, "We want to manage the city. The (employee) associations and their contracts can't manage the city."
HE'S ON THE CAMPAIGN TRAIL
This is typical of Righeimer, as he struts and sputters before any crowd, camera, reporter or any small group he encounters. This is his campaign modus operandi and he's clearly on the campaign trail for his re-election next year.
COCKY? NAH, ARROGANT
To describe him as "cocky" seems inadequate. I'm thinking that "arrogant" best describes him. You tell me... here's the Dictionary.com definition of arrogance: offensive display of superiority or self-importance; overbearing pride. That sounds about right to me.
CHARTER
Despite having his charter soundly thumped at the polls last November, he arrogantly demanded another drink from the bowl. He demanded that a charter committee, not a commission, be created, then promptly stacked it with folks who follow his mantra like so many lemmings. I have no doubt that when the process is complete there WILL be a charter. I also don't doubt that Righeimer and his majority on the council will tinker with it to get his pet projects included before it is placed on the November ballot.
A SLOW-LEARNER
He apparently thinks the facade of fairness - the committee, which is subservient to the council - will actually sway the electorate the next time. He thinks it was all about him last time around... it wasn't. It was the charter he cobbled together all by himself to be sure his pet peeves were included. The voters didn't just say "No", but they, with a 60-40% walloping, said "Heck, No!", or words to that effect.
ANOTHER YEAR OF THIS? GEEZ!
So, as the campaign season now unfolds, it's going to be interesting to watch Righeimer posture, prance, pontificate and pander to the voters for the next fourteen months. It ain't gonna be pretty!

If you will remember, he swore it would pass the last time also. This time, the voters are wiser. I doubt seriously, and thankfully, that Righeimer will even be here after the next election. The city is now paying attention, and what they hear is things such as you mentioned, Geoff. The other thing they hear is Steve's lies.
If a politician is not there to hold up and represent the will of the people (60%)-- what the F*** is he there for?
It is on us to say no to jimbo and steve-o next. This is the people's costa mesa, not just theirs.
Speaking of arrogance, loved your takedown of Sesler in the Pilot comments today. For an attorney and city planning commissioner to post what he did was pretty astonishing.
If they want fields, he can take the whole team back to Manhattan, Kansas and build them there, where there's plenty of open space. This down is developed already, and their 15 minutes are almost up. Then our 'brand' will be strong (and we won't have to use that stupid term any more)!
P.S. Has Mensy accepted your challenge and admitted culpability yet? Seems like a big, fat no. Silence is deafening.
I have nothing good to say right now, without cussing anyway and maybe getting sued. The word delusional comes to mind. The minions will do whatever he wants but it's too bad he doesn't pay attention to the voting population of the City because they are talking in places and banding together. He really has no clue.
The Mayor has a distinction that many residents of Costa Mesa do not…He is a wealthy man…
There is not a lot you can do to slow down a man that owns several businesses that generate a healthy income.
He is proud of what he has accomplished, and is headed in the direction of many men who understand power…Orange County Supervisor is probably his next target, then on to the Legislature, a run for Governor follows, then on to the State Senate, with a run for congress and then on to the White House……
He already has the mentality and the connections to probably pull it off….
One little problem with that kind of stuff….Sooner or later, he is going to piss off the wrong people he screwed on the way up….
He will lose any election he runs for again in Costa Mesa…
The minute he out of office and no longer controls the CMPD…He should move out of Costa Mesa…..He is not well liked
Actually, Ken, he doesn't control the CMPD. Yes, he can strangle their effectiveness by refusing to permit proper staffing, and he can sue them for alledgedly causing him emotional distress, but he can't control them. The men and women of the CMPD will continue to perform at a high level for EVERY resident of the city - even him. That was demonstrated during the bogus DUI complaint.
As far as him moving out of town... I'm all for it! He's like a plague of locusts... he lands, sucks what he can out of the vitality of the community, then moves on.
Geoff...Thank you for saying what I meant, the proper way...Control in my way means, economic control and applying pressure on the families of the officers, by causing unease and uncertainty in their lives...Strangling is a perfect way to say it..CMPD has always treated my family with nothing but respect...
I heard Rancho Santa Margarita is nice...
Reading more, he's clearly over the DUI, what with the Diet Coke jokes and all. So why sue the cops if he's over his pain and suffering?
I think that the choice of law firm that Righeimer and Mensinger selected kind of makes it clear, how difficult it must be to a politician…The one specialty that they stand out for is recovering money for people who have been sexually assaulted.
I am all for suing the Catholic Church or going after sexual predators criminally to have them pay for their crimes.
I do not agree with them being retained to file suit against the CMPOA over an incident that most men would have chalked up to experience, and moved on from.
The videos of every council meeting are fair game for evidence in a trial, that claims emotional distress, intimidation, etc…So is a bunch of other stuff…Of course I am sure that any competent Trier of Fact will be able to sort out whether or not there is a basis for damages.
The suit against the CMPOA is one of about three in history…Quit acting like an idiot and move on…You may get some respect that way…
I remember Saddam Hussein’s actions the minute he became President of Iraq…Within a day, a whole lot of his enemies were called out by name at the General Assembly, waltzed outside and shot right there…
That being said…I would hope that Righmeier got the message yesterday in Newport with the diet coke insult…He is not well respected in that community…The premise of the insult was to send the message to him loud and clear…
Only a fool would do as you have done...
No matter how low you will go to try and win, emotionally assaulting your community will cost you your job in the end..
Now if I was just made to look like a fool in front of everybody in Orange County, I would get the message and drop my suit, which is why the diet coke insult happened…Wake up Jim…It came from the top….
Dr. Seuss day....
“Your Majesty. Please…
I don’t like to complain.
But down here below,
we are feeling great pain.”
Why does Righeimer hate Costa Mesa so much?
I"m surprised Righeimer didn't slap his forehead and fall back onto his fainting couch....Heaven's to Murgatroyds.
Two Diet Cokes.....ON THE PODIUM?
That"s tantamount to Public Ridicule.
Newport's got lot's of money because they have a tax base and actually have increased their business license fees since 1961.
He should sue them for every penny they've got. Just imagine the emotional distress he suffered.
