He's Running - Already?

JUMPING THE GUN
While Costa Mesa - the city he's trying to take over - is in turmoil, with illegal outsourcing and a complete re-vamp of the city municipal government structure by the imposition of a Charter, carpetbagging Mayor Pro Tem Jim Righeimer is on the campaign trail!

RE-FILLING HIS COFFERS

Yep, even though his term does not end until 2014, Righeimer is having a fund raiser next week. Here's the announcement: (Click on the image to enlarge it) Check out some of the names at the top... no surprises there.
A SNOOPY SMOKE SCREEN
I think he may be
hoping the salvation of the Snoopy House display on the front lawn of City Hall and that the building itself will be awash in holiday lighting will be a sufficient "feel good" smoke screen to keep folks from realizing that he's trying to quick pitch the process and jam a charter that HE PERSONALLY WROTE down the throats of the voters in June. He's trying to force-feed a charter on the city that includes a segment that no other charter I can find includes - an anti-union rule called "Voluntary Municipal Employee Political Contributions" - which appears to be the resurrection of his long-dormant "Paycheck Protection" scheme that was rejected by voters many years ago.

SPENDING OTHER PEOPLE'S MONEY
And, since he frequently complains about the cost of running for office and that he was outspent by "outside interests" and "unions" last year, I guess this is a preemptive strike on the campaign process for three-years from now. Yes, sir - it's t
ime to be collecting other people's money to spend trying to get re-elected. Just thought you'd like to know...

Good for Righeimer. A very impressive line up of supporters on that list. Hopefully by the time he has to run he will have more money than the unions are going to throw against him. I remember when they spent 300K to defeat Mansoor, who only had about one third as much money. He still was victorious but we cannot have that disparity in funding happen again.

And here I just mentioned the deep pockets his group is going to have pushing the charter. Gary Hunt is Irvine Co. (retired or not)... and if I see one more DP comment from that toady Rob Dickson, now I'll understand why. Just another Riggy bootlicker, but we knew that already.

That said, his war chest is going to be huge, and in all honesty, I don't know how he can possibly lose - people that have no clue what he's up to will vote for him because his name will be rammed down our throats. But at least he'll campaign in a classy, above the fray manner. Oh, wait, never mind...

It's been less than 9 months since Huy Pham died on the same property.

I believe in moving on, but out of respect for the dead worker there should be no holiday display at city hall this year.

Surely there's a private home where the cartoon stuff can be put.

BC, I'm sure this is a debt retirement party. You usually see these a year or two after a campaign to help retire debt the candidate personally incurred. I actually saw one of these for Katrina Foley--her holiday soiree is a fundraiser/debt retirement event. She keeps a cut of that.

These days, when you are in office you are always fundraising. If you want to criticize Righeimer for it, criticize Foley also.

Geoff. I have no doubt you are well intentioned. However, you continue to be uninformed and lack perspective. And you are clearly angry.

Riggy is trying to pay off debt. The fact is that it is very expensive to run a campaign when you do not accept Union money and the Union spends significant gobs of money against you.

Furthermore, I understand you have a tradition of fact fabrication and ignorance of reality.

And your anger clouds your judgement.

And ...

Why is it okay for the unions to dump $14k into Wendy Leece after she buys their awful Police contract, but when the average joe six-pack tries to run against the union and needs to fundraise to do it, you villify him.

These days the only way to beat the union-funded slime is to fundraise. Good for Righeimer. We plan to contribute after seeing this. Thanks for the heads-up.

Dear Angry Geoff,

You forgot to mention that Riggy's fundraiser will have a theme!

Yep-
"Evening in Tehran!"
Our Riggy will dress up as a mullah and take everyone hostage.
His little friends wil be Revolutionary Guards.
Each attendee will get a custom Charter written just for them by the honoree himself!
@Mike:
Dickson will be there with a special prayer rug.

Geoff the great waffler.

Take a stand. It's wrong for Righeimer to fundraise himself, but okay for the taxpayers to fund candidates through the Police and Fire unions? Guys like Righeimer are already two-strikes down the count when they run. No one can match the dirty union money because it is OUR money that they use.

For me, I'd much rather have guys pounding the pavement raising their own money to run for office than my tax money going to those who are willing to "pay to play" for the union contracts. As Barry said, is it okay for Wendy to fundraise, but not Righeimer?

Which is it Geoff?

Welcome back. You'll notice I DID NOT say it was inappropriate for The Carpetbagger to fund raise. I'm OK with ANY candidate trying to raise funds. Try to spin it any way you wish - it just makes you look goofy.

I don't know that having cocktails at the club with a bunch of OCGOP bigwigs is exactly 'pounding the pavement.' Riggy hasn't knocked on my door, and he only lives two streets over.

And I'm glad we got clarification that he's just 'retiring debt' from the LAST time he ran for office. Makes sense since it seems like he has a penchant for running up debt.

Or is Righeimer raising money to run for Congress in November 2012? If he succeeds in ramming an anti-worker charter through in June, he'll have strong cred with the GOP money men. Maybe Rohrabacher will move on and run for the Senate, leaving his Congressional seat to his former campaign manager.

Funny that Coach hasn’t jumped onto the old money train. Doesn’t he actually have too run if he wants to be elected (for the first time)? Or will we be seeing some random entre in our new charter that says he can just keep his seat; until “he” decides to move on?

@ Neener Neener "Wee"-ner Gang,
Isn't Mr. McEvoy a math teacher? That means his job requires him to continually facilitate and extend his high school students' divergent critical thinking skills which will directly prepare them for college, or vote responsibly in future elections. That is a very humble DAILY accomplishment. Maybe you should thank Mr. McEvoy for his commitment to our youth since you "are wrong".

Also, I'm very appreciative of another one of his recent accomplishments. Last May, he was directly involved in saving & preserving Newport's iconic, but more importantly, historical TK's Froghouse surf shop. And as a long-time customer, I directly benefit from his personal, as well as, many other people's committed efforts, except yours.

So, as "Not Surprised" has already asked you earlier, just what have you "done" lately other than complain about his lack of "getting things done"?

Maybe, you could "get something 'done' " like be a "bigger man", pun definitely intended....

Then I saw my name in your comment! Wow! I couldn't believe I was important enough to be attacked, and linked with community activists who I truly admire! It is a badge of honor when you “hate” on us. I posted something a few weeks ago and said to myself, lets see what that mean little troll says now. I knew you couldn't resist, and I enjoyed watching you froth at the mouth. It's so predictable. The funniest part is when you call Geoff “An angry old man” and those of us making too much sense “haters”. Maybe we are doing an additional good deed for the community, giving you a target to vent your hate and anger……. Oh, you’re welcome.

When you unleash your bile on those who speak out against this crazy council, who get involved, it means we are getting under someone’s skin and shedding enough light to be a threat. Chris doesn't grab the spotlight every time he does a good deed, but he got you excited, so I know he must be doing something right.

@Unanimous...you are killing me with these "unions running amok with money" claims. There are forms that track all these alleged donations for or against candidates. They get filed with the FPPC. All of it is a matter of public record (you know, transparency, right?).

I have seen your claims of 300K against Mansoor before. I have done some records searching and I have not been able to find any truth in these claims. Where are you getting your talking points?

I did find that the Costa Mesa Police made a donation to Mansoor's council campaign back in 2002. Looks like they contributed to Monahan too. In fact, they gave to other Republican candidates too. Curt Hagman for assembly. Shows he won, but not sure what district he is. Didn't really care enough to research it.

If you can show sources and links, I would love to see them. Try going to Project Smart Vote, Followthemoney.org, or campaignmoney.com. Interesting the people that show up to give their money. Especially when Righeimer, Mensinger and their shills (you) start running off about "outside interests". Heck Righemer gets a ton of money from non Cosa Mesans. What's their interest? Mostly seem to be real estate, developers, insurance and the like.

Yo Neerner's. Thank you for playing. However, without even taking issue with your attempted success stories, none of them have any relevance to Costa Mesa.

Do you know that this question has been asked before, several times.

The reality is that one has offered one relevant community effort and success story. None.

Great example of what massive Union spending in an election can do.

It can make a fringe candidate look viable. Spend massive amounts against on candidate and for another.

Great example of why we need this charter

Wow. Many posters demonstrate a lack of understanding of how things work.
On the FPPC site you can see the money flowing from Costa Mesa Public Safety Union to Leece days after Leece voted on favorable contracts for the Unions. Fact.

You could check the political signs that went up at the end of the election cycle. They were Leece & Mcevoy signs bought & Hung by the Union.

Those are facts.

What is also a fact is that neither Mcevoy himself nor anyone else can share a relevant example of contribution to our community.

Now, my opinion is that Robin is daffy.

Sgt Joe Friday...I admit I have not looked it up to verify your information about contributions to Leece is correct, but hey, why bother? You and the Righeimer/Mensinger side have never mislead us in the past. Oh, what is that you say? Bobby Young had to admit in a council meeting PERS numbers were not accurate to the extent that PERS did not provide them and they were just as likely to go down as up? Oh, I remember that now.

For the sake of discussion, let us presume you are correct on this one. So, how do you feel about Righeimer naming only CARE Ambulance service as a possible source of private paramedic service after they contributed to Righeimer's campaign? Kinda in a bind there aren't you? Can't exactly criticize the cops and not Righeimer can you? Well, I guess you can if you don't mind being labeled a hypocrit.

Just to be clear, not one Orange County city or the OCFA uses "private" paramedic services. Many use sworn city or county FF's in separate city owned or county owned paramedic ambulances. Someone please correct me if I am off base here, but I am 99% certain this is the case.

"Facts" mam...

Why wouldn't we want to send firefighters to a car accident? The medical aide component is only one facet of working an accident. What about heavy rescue, or patient extrication. That's one of the functions of the truck or engine company in concert with the medical aide.

Do we roll only an ambulance with two medics? Even cities who staff their own firefighter ambulances send a truck or an engine to injury accidents. If they get there, and are not needed and it can be hands by medics alone they can cancel. However when you have a fairly chaotic scene, many hands make light the work. Better than task saturating two medics.

I love how all of these armchair firemen and cops come on here and tell the rest of the community how it "oughta be", when they have no practical frame of reference to base their opinion on. I bet you guys scream at the TV and tell your multimillion dollar sports idols how to do their job on game day too, don't you.
