Dear Me... No Lee For Us To See...

FORUM TOMORROW
As most of you already know, Mesa Verde Community, Inc. will be hosting a forum for the eight (8)  candidates for Costa Mesa City Council tomorrow, Thursday, August 21, 2014 at the Neighborhood Community Center, 1845 Park Avenue (Lions Park) beginning with a "meet and greet" at 6:30 and a two-hour program commencing at 7:00.  Mesa Verde Community, Inc. President Darnell Wyrick will moderate the event.

DUCKING THE ISSUES?
I find it VERY curious that my Eastside neighbor, Lee Ramos, has decided to blow this forum off.  According to Brad Zint's article in the Daily Pilot, HERE,  Ramos' Campaign Manager Dennis Popp - the pompous pontificator and publisher of a nearly incomprehensible blog - said Ramos "will be focusing on meeting with voters rather than performing at PR events."  That's a curiously condescending description of an event being conducted by an organization of which he is Treasurer!  In election cycles past this forum has been a valuable opportunity for voters to hear the positions of the candidates and assess their ideas.

WHY?
Popp goes on to be further quoted as saying, "Our key issue is allocating time and resources.  We chose to emphasize contacting residents to learn what they think, rather than to talk to them from the stage."  Really?  So, in an election so critical to the future of the city, Popp apparently doesn't want a large group of interested voters to have the opportunity to hear what his candidate thinks about issues, huh?  Very interesting.

BUT...
Even more curious is the fact that Popp told Zint that his man, Ramos, DOES plan to attend the Feet To The Fire Forum on September 18th - an event that has had much more aggressive questioning in the past.

HOPE HE ATTENDS
I hope Ramos, shown here texting during a Fairview Park Citizens Advisory Committee meeting, has a change of heart and does attend the forum Thursday.  The voters deserve an opportunity to hear his thoughts on what he thinks are the biggest challenges the city faces, and his potential solutions.  It's difficult to know what to make of his decision to duck this event.

BE THERE OR...
In any event, I'll see you there... should be an interesting, informative, evening.

Geoff, agreed. Its a very odd strategy not to use free opportunities to reach 100 or more people when otherwise you would not. Maybe the residents are not important to him. But then again, he's got Popp as a manager, so you know its going to be a strange campaign.

I can't imagine turning town free publicity.

Can't wait until the F2F. He's going to get his ass kicked.

Popp's writing skills are similar to mine at ages 8-11. I'd learn a new word and use it a lot in order to remember it and impress my family and friends. Popp wants us to believe that his pseudo-intellectual blathering is evidence of a great intellect.

He must have been ordered to keep the sleepwalker out of certain events.

Baugh and Jimbo must have realized that too many public appearances would just be floccinaucinihilipilification.

It merits mentioning that Foley won't be at F2F due to prior committment, so there will be quite a bit of backlash about that. Batten down the hatches, it's going to get bumpy.

I was wondering why so much money has been dumped into the Lee Ramos campaign for city council, when he bumbles in conversation and is MIA in any public forums. I realized the Riggy good ole boys must feel threatened and worried that the regime might fall apart come November. Everyone knows Ramos is another Rigbot that may not be able to put two words together, however would vote as instructed by the boys to continue the majority stifling of anything good for our beloved Costa Mesa. I have been a conservative for most of my adult life and still hold true to those beliefs. However, by observing the tactics and underhanded methods displayed by the Riggy type Repubs and their GOP endorsers I am ashamed of them and embarrassed for the party. My boy Ronnie would be ashamed of their tactics and motives too!
Ramos may be covering the neighborhoods door to door, but some of his rhetoric is a little too late. Months ago he hijacked a map that TBON keeps which indicates all the known rehab houses. Then proceeded to parade it at meetings as his own and decided to jump on the no rehab issue after it had become a popular cause as evidenced by overwhelming neighborhood concerns. It is easy to speak words, but I’ve never heard him voice his concerns at council meetings on this issue nor take a public stand as Wendy Leece has done in support of a stricter ordinance. I’m just saying; a nice mannered man does not make a fair and balanced councilman. NO R’s No Riggy No Ramos

The czar is already directing Ramos. Ramos acts like his little protege'. Funny to watch. We know the czar will be directing Ramos if he wins a seat in the election. Czar needs people he can direct and lead around by the nose.

DAILY PILOT---September 7, 2014

In the latest twist to an increasingly contentious Costa Mesa city council election, city blogger Dennis Popp was arrested last evening after he was found in the OC Humane Society on Newland. The conservative Popp was clad only in Garfield boxer shorts and was attempting to release the 37 felines that were caged for adoption. CM police sergeant Bert Lahr informed the DP, "The individual was in a manic state, screaming, 'THE KITTIES MUST BE FREE!!' repeatedly." Popp was unarmed, but one officer received multiple scratches.

Lee Ramos, whose council campaign is being guided by Popp commented, "Donny Popp (sic) was a nice man. He would take me to breakfast and tell me what to do. Normally, I would have sausage, but last time I had bacon. It wasn't crispy enough. I should have had the sausage. But I always have scrambled eggs. Always."

Popp was booked and was taken to Hoag Hospital for psychiatric evaluation.

The previous comment by Honeyman is intended to be a humorous speculation and does not reflect the publisher of this blog's views. I do not, necessarily, think Popp is in need of psychiatric care, but when you read some of his bilge on his blog it does raise an eyebrow from time to time. ;-)

@arthur nern
while I havent read his blog anytime lately, when i did read Popps blog i was driven mad by the same observation. While perusing my graduate degree, I have been a teaching assistant at UCI for many years in Psychology and much of his crap very much reflected what a B- undergraduate would produce having thumbed through their textbook for 20 minutes (one example i remember off of the top of my head was his very cherry picked usage of 'locus of control'). Yeah the definition is correct, but he bastardized the concept in many ways including conveniently neglecting to reference what potential causes were (eg learning... learned helplessness). I had to stop reading his blog purely because of that-- I was far too tempted to take a red pen to my screen and fix his arguments. It's him trying to posture himself to some kind of elevated status, when in actuality, he doesnt know S***. That group of sycophants all remind me of the emporer's new clothes.

Nod. A dunce is a dunce regardless of age. After the dictator is defeated and the sleepwalker snores on by, Popp can get back to those middle school vocabulary books..
