What's Wrong With My Republican Party?

THAT QUESTION IS ANSWERED
Chris Emami, over at the OC Political Blog, has presented us with a fascinating window into the minds of two very influential Orange County Republican politicians - Newport Beach Mayor Keith Curry and OC GOP Treasurer Mark Bucher.

RIGHEIMER'S PAL
Bucher, as some know, is - or was- related to Costa Mesa Mayor Jim Righeimer by marriage and has been his running buddy on anti-union political issues for decades.  They hatched the failed "Paycheck Protection" scheme together.

INSIGHT INTO THE DIVISIONS IN THE PARTY
I think you'll find the audio Q&A between Bucher and Curry quite illuminating and worth the time it takes to listen - just under 30 minutes.  You'll get a real feel for what's wrong with my Republican Party these days.  You'll hear Curry use the terms "Stupid Politics", "Holier than thou", etc.  You'll hear Bucher praise Righeimer as a "principled person" - please try to keep a straight face.

CLICK AND ENJOY
Go to the OC Political site, HERE, and click on the audio file.  Have fun.

Thankyou Geoff. this is just what I and some of the other local R's have been talking about! What a contrast What I heard was reason vs. rhetoric.

Sad to say, I was talking with some former GOP members today. The last election was just too much for them, mainly because of the local "leadership" and their skewed translation of GOP policies. They really did ruin the brand as far as some folks are concerned, so my friends voted by joining the ranks of "No Party Preference".

Robin,
Maybe we're all just too dense to understand Righeimer's brand of leadership. We all should spend $125 for a seat at his glorification dinner next Thursday and hear all about "The Art Of Leadership", when he will tell the well-heeled throng all about the state of the city. Residents shouldn't have to fork over that kind of money to hear about their city, should they?.

i have long thought robin and geoff were in the wrong party. they always bash republicans and seem to support democrats. they would be much more at home as democrats by being amongst their own kind like gericault.
as for the mayor's dinner, you DO realize who is being honored there don't you? It is not the Mayor. It is instead two great men who have done so much for Costa Mesa. You may have heard of them: Hammet and Segerstrom. Yes, they are republicans, that may be the problem.

Anonymous "grow up",
I've been a Republican all my voting life - from day one - and have generally agreed with the core values. That doesn't mean I've ALWAYS agreed with EVERY thing done by my party over the years. However, the OC GOP has failed to evolve and, like any other organism that fails to adapt to changing circumstances, may soon be extinct.

And, yes, I DO know who is being honored and DO understand where the dollars raised will go. Both Jack Hammett (two "t's") and Henry are very worthy recipients of these honors.

So, you define what YOU think and I'll define what I think, you gutless anonymous coward. Thank you very much...

I think Bucher needs to educate himself. I thought Costa Mesa city employees have a choice to either pay Union dues or opt out and pay half to a charity. He keeps saying employees are forced to pay Unions.

Also why is it the attack and outsourcing targets were aimed at the people whose average salaries are well below the 200k they scream about. If you take out CEO Hatch, Francis, Lobdell, Joyce and the rest of upper management and directors who were not targets of layoffs then yes you probably get 200k per year from that group. But take them out of the equation and the general city employees average base salary is about 70K. These people are not going to get 200k per year retirement. The average targeted attempted layoff misc. city employees is probably looking at about 50-60k per year in retirement with some a lot less.
Maybe we should outsource Hatch and the upper level managers to really save some dough. Or better yet work with your city employees to help ease the economics of the city.

Oh wait that wont get rid of the campaign donations that city employees are forced to pay to the democrats.
