City Announces SR-73 Closures
In a press release today the City of Costa Mesa announced that State Route 73 - the Corona Del Mar Freeway - will be closed for construction from the northern entry point at the I-405 to Jamboree Road over the weekend of October 20th and 21st.
THE ANNOUNCEMENT
The Corona del Mar (73) Freeway between the 405 Freeway and Jamboree Boulevard will be closed on Saturday, Oct. 21 and Sunday, Oct. 22. The location and times of the closures are:
- Southbound 73 to the 55: 5 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
- Southbound 73 from the 55 to Jamboree Road: 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
- Northbound 73 from Jamboree Road to Campus Drive: Midnight to 7 p.m. Saturday
- Northbound 73 from Jamboree Road to Campus Drive: 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday.
PLEASE PLAN AHEAD
This very busy stretch of roadway will be virtually unusable by traffic for most of that weekend in both directions. There is a link on that press release that takes you to detailed CalTrans maps with instructions for ways around the construction confusion.

stop spiking the pensions. we taxpayers have had enough.
Joe, please direct us all to the section of the charter that addresses pensions, unfunded liabilities and pension spiking. I want to see the actual wording wherein that is addressed.
Also, under our current configuration, please show us all how pension spiking is occurring. And while we are at it, please define pension spiking. What is it. How does it occur.

The 73 is closing because they are filming "Hangover 3".
I am not making this up.
I saw that in the newspaper! Unbelievable! Inconvenience tens of thousands of people for a film shoot. Who gets the permit money? Not Costa Mesa? Newport Beach? Irvine? Probably just CalTrans!
maybe you can get Sandy Genis to write an environmental report against the filming and then Katrina Foley and John Stephens can sue CalTrans
Or, you could compliment the work of the current City Council and Chairman Colin McCarthy for their work with CalTrans and OCTA.
Big Idea - read the article in the Pilot. Mensinger isn't happy either, or he's just campaigning so he can say he was against it - wouldn't be the first time.
Stevie's comments in the DP today regarding the closure of 73 over the weekend are priceless! Classic hypocrisy! Now you know how the citizens of CM feel about you and the rest of your CC union hate-filled thugs and how you treat our city and us, which to say, you people couldn't care less about the citizens of CM and what we want or don't want!! And now you're complaining about the disregard and lack of concern for the cities affected by this closure. That's just rich, really rich! You're just upset because you're not making any money on the closure, so you will try to spin it into a campaign plug. You've got absolutely nothing positive to campaign with, so you attack and criticize others. Everyone complains how businesses and jobs are going out of the state (the movie industry being one), and here's someone staying in CA to film, filming in our area, maybe creating a few local jobs (even for a day or two), and everyone has to complain about that now! If LA can handle the closure of the 405 - twice - I think we can handle an intermittent freeway closure of a 5 or 6 mile stretch of the 73 - over the weekend - without whining and falling apart! As Stevie told the citizens at a CC meeting who were upset that he had gotten the days extended (for the benefit of his children's sports teams, no less) for fireworks bombardments in our city over 4th of July, something to effect of "it might be a little inconvenient - the smoke and noise - but it'll be over soon!" (Just go watch the tape of that cc meeting to get his exact quote, but, yes, he couldn't have cared less about the inconvenience to CM citizens caused by that!)
@Disgusted-Exactly! Not to mention the filming is done by private industry (his holy grail), and he is taking swipes at Sacramento for it. Really? Now it's Sacto's fault because they allowed it? So much for government staying out of private industry. What a hypocrite!
Bingo! As I said, he's just campaigning so he can say he's against it. How soon everyone forgets the fireworks extension, etc. All great points, Disgusted and Informed. That section of the 73 on a weekend is easily avoided, especially in non-summer months.
I don't know about you folks, but I'm worried about the film crew- this part of the 73 is near JWA where Steve-O reportedly flashed a phony badge and went off on a baggage clerk.
Given his unhappiness about the closure, who knows WHAT he might do! If anyone sees Zach Galifianakis or Bradley Cooper running toward Newport, we'll know who to question..
