No On "V"!

 CHARTER ASSIGNED "V"
The Orange County Registrar of Voters has announced the assignment of the numbers/letters for issues on the November 6th Ballot.  Jim Righeimer's Charter has been assigned "V".  (Thanks to CM4RG for the image above)

A LITTLE VIDEO FOR PERSPECTIVE

Perhaps this little video clip will help you in your assessment of this situation.  It seems somehow very relevant.

Can't wait to vote YES on our Charter. Yes on V! It's been a long time coming. Time to save our City money and take back control from Sacramento. This is an easy one. Just wait until the out of town unions flood our City with terrible hate mail. The votes for it will start pouring in!

In Auburn I am convinced the great big handpainted 4 by 8 signs were the most noticed and ultimately got the anti-charter votes from those were uninformed about it. I like the evil bloody V look. Just about sums it up. We toyed with "Keep Politics Local No on __" but there are plenty of catchy slogans.

Oh Barry, there is nothing in charters that saves money. Ask other charter cities, especially those that are going bankrupt, hoisted by their own pitard and arrogance and greed. You are still governed by general law in most respects. However, heavy handed politicians with a love of control and power THINK they are going to be able to override everything that is mandated by the state. Not so, suggest you really research and listen to what the No's are saying ..not just sound bites.

Tori, I think Barry knows that charter won't save money. Even the Reps have come out and said that. He can't be a stupid as he appears, it has to be just to get under your skin. He's a screwball, really.

Heh! It's amazing how life imitates TV. Riggy and Mensy should pitch their own reality show: "The Hoseheads of Costa Mesa." Oh, that's right, Riggy already HAD one in the 70s where he played Boss Hogg..

This pick by the Registrar's office is a gem. Not only do you have a reference to a recent show about alien invaders, (2009-2011), but that show had a previous incarnation from the early 80s that many people still remember. Earthlings battling the aliens would peel back the humanistic skin to find a reptile underneath. Now in CM you peel back the "here to fix" skin to find OCGOP radicals bent on sucking the life out of Costa Mesa like how the aliens in "V" wanted to steal all the water from Earth.

And, since the same mob seems determined to take over the Mesa Consolidated Water District (for our water) and the Costa Mesa Sanitary District (for our effluent)and combine the two agencies, and since they have a history of huge missteps, we'll want to be checking the quality of our water if that happens. Don't really want those efforts co-mingled!

Yikes. CM4RG has a no on V that looks like they worship the devil.

Yes. Sewer & Water should be combined. Give trash back to City. Smaller government is better.

Or is that not part of the republican party you's subscribe to?

Smaller government is better. Having just returned from the Planning Commission meeting, I say get rid of all of them, since they don't listen to the residents anyway, only the developers and big money. It's so ridiculous to sit through that dog and pony show, knowing full well decisions have already been made in advance .

McCarthy reached his apex tonight - voting No on the 7-11 since he already had 4 votes for it, so he can say he was against it. I think he lost all potential votes he might have had from that room, as well as a few more on the Eastside with an approval of a residential rebuild that just adds to the density and traffic at Santa Ana and Albert.

But back to the other decision - all 5 commissioners spoke of the evil that is 7-11, particularly the one on Baker... and then reversed course because, hey, it's better than a liquor store.

Until that 7-11 wants to sell liquor, which they are allowed to under the existing permit. Just wait for it.

It's like every other PC meeting I've been too - obviously these guys have their minds made up before it even starts. To put on their show just insults the intelligence of those who took the time to fight it.

No project approved by the PC increased density. 8 dwelling units/acre density before and after.

PC also talked about the bad 7-11s, and said that this location with this landlord wouldn't have the same problems, and it had to come back to PC. Better than a no-restrictions except hours liquor store.

What meeting were you at?

"Same Meeting" is either a minion or a hired commenter by the council cabal. Sure quick to defend a decision withe specific pop density numbers etc. I can't wait until November.

The project at Albert was a slamdunk pass. Very minor setback variance for a detached garage. Each lot has correct square footage for R1 and adequate parking. It is an upgrade for the area. How can one argue against it?

Same meeting - which one on the dais are you?Because I didn't see a single supporter from the community other than the PC and those involved with its development. The meeting I was at was where the Planning Department recommended denial of the project and PC completely ignored that recommendation, and ignored all the residents who came out to oppose it, and only listened to the owner, architect and 7-11 rep. That meeting. The meeting where the only people that benefit are those that stand to make a nice, big profit and the expense of long-time residents. THAT MEETING!

When Dickson says 'well, what if they (security) come by twice instead of once, then I'm on board,' I wanted to vomit. The landlord was smiling all along because he knew the project was approved - I'm sure that was done long ago, because they broke ground on the surrounding parts of the project way back. The PC never even once considered the 8 a.m. opening time the residents requested. If anything, I'm pretty shocked they didn't let them go ahead and go 24 hours, let alone open at 5.

The problem is perception - how does the PC know there won't be problems at this particular site? They don't. But McCarthy can play the nice guy role to try to boost his council campaign since he already knows there are 4 votes for the project. The talks about signage and roped parking and all that nonsense was just smoke and mirrors, or grandstanding, or whatever you want to call it.

And in my perception, if you take one single lot and split it and build two houses, that increases density by one family. You can play your '8 dwellings per acre' game, but it's still gonna be more people. Another project where the only supporter was the developer.

I guess I should become a developer, since they are clearly the only people the PC (and CC) care about. But a new council might see things differently, and we're going to get out there and rock the vote.

NO ON THE 3 Ms, and NO ON THE CHARTER!

And why don't some you council supporters/cowards start using your own names for a change. Oh, it's probably because you can't, since you're either cowards or actually sitting on the dais. You've all but disappeared from the DP threads.

My final thought, now that I'm on a roll:

Colin McCarthy runs something called the Costa Mesa Taxpayers Association. Who does that represent, exactly, because from my perspective he doesn't seem to give a squat about actual taxpayers, only what his masters tell him to focus on.

Kick that can down the road, where the rubber meets the road, or whatever other folksy metaphors he chooses to use.

Funny how you ignore McCarthy's comments about why the project is before PC, and what could be built on the 14k or 12k lots without any PC review.

I saw residents complaining about the problems caused by the liquor store and Carl's Jr. 7-11 sells no liquor and a small percent of alcohol. It will be an improvement. 7-11 may not go forward with the lease, they wanted 5am, and PC only gave them 6 - the same time the Carl's Jr. opens. Funny how you ignore the comments about the quiet enjoyment condition. I got the impression that any complaints about noise would result in the CUP being revoked, and then you're back to a liquor store.

Yeah, funny how I ignored SOME of McCarthy's comments, when he ignored ALL of the residents. I've been waiting 7 years for the 'quiet enjoyment' issue to put a business under that never should have been approved, Curious (again, no name). For 7 years, my family has had to deal with smoke, odor and a kiddy play area that NEVER should have been allowed to begin with, with a hopefully soon-to-be ex-business owner that played fast and loose with the rules, and a PC that was an investor in the project - but that's another story.

This is just another case like that. In this case, neighbors were fine with an 8 a.m. start - it's the noise and traffic that's going to hit them starting at 6 a.m. that they are unhappiest about, and that will certainly prevent them from the 'quiet enjoyment' of their homes. I won't be the least bit surprised if Southland Corp., 7-11's owner, comes back still wanting 24 hours.

And mark my words - the issue of liquor is still out there. Guarantee, 100%, that 7-11 is going to come back down the road and want to sell it because they'll make even more money, and guess what - the current license already allows that. There's the rubber stamp - UNLESS we get rid of these clowns on the dais.

I listened to EVERY SINGLE REMARK McCarthy made - couldn't take my eyes off him I was so angry. So don't talk about what I missed. They threw up so many distractions it was beyond believable - pay phones and propane tanks, 'roped parking' and Snickers candy bar sale signs, etc. I'm keeping my eye on the ball and following the money, trust me.

Now, you are another person who was apparently there at the meeting since you have this first-hand knowledge, but you must have been up on the dais too, or you're the 'same meeting' guy, because nobody there was supporting the project, as mentioned, besides those who will make money off it.

All I want is a little bit of honesty, from the PC and and the CC, and from commenter/cowards like you that are too weak to use your name and stand behind your words, but you probably can't because you are likely a public official. Until you can do that, I won't take a thing you say seriously.

Have a nice day... smiley face icon here

@ Pay Up: to answer your question re: developers and $$'s to campaigns, in a word, "YES"; one examples: upcoming "event" at the GreenLeaf Restaurant on E. 17th St. for Mensinger and McCarthy... a development built by Burnham USA (w/ Bryan Ward), the same guy who got the drive-thru on 17th St. approved, as well as The OC Mix. The one that Fitzpatrick and others on the PC raved about doing "such good projects"; he lives in the CastAways in Newport, behind the gaurd gates where no 7-11's or Drive-thrus will bother him.

split the lot? that equals housing for two families instead of one. that is more people we don't need here. stop all development. those that hold title to land should have their private property rights rescinded, make them take the loss, and make it all open space for us, the ones who got here sooner. too bad but you are evil. you make money developing and that is not right. My house was the last one that should have been developed because I was taken care of . I don't care about other's desires or the develper, I got mine so go away!

Anyone else think the No on V graphic by CM4RG is creepy. Even satanic?

Maybe Marshall Krupp is donating his time and ideas to CM4RG with graphics help?

Mankind Project votes No on V. Encourages all to meet naked in the woods for celebration.

How that group, and Geoof West think that a symbol like that is acceptable is sad.

Dear Sad Buy True, whatever that means, the CM4G logo is an obvious play on the logo for the movie V For Vendetta. This little play on a logo is actually spot on considering this charter is nothing more than grown mans childish attempt at his own little vendetta. Yes on...

Those charters were drafted by a committee of residents, FOR THE RESIDENTS, and are completely different that the charter that Righeimer drafted, cut and paste, by himself, FOR HIMSELF. The residents of the City of Costa Mesa, get NO benefit from it whatsoever. It does nothing for the city or for us. In fact, it limits us considerably and opens the city up to many "Bell" type situations. It is NOT the same as other city charters.

to yes on v....why don't you do some research before you start spouting off about charters and the cities around us that have them already...theirs are REAL....this thing is NOT; it is pasted together by and for the benefit of one immature individual only who wants wants to further his own political career and has to get his way at all costs...It is more than obvious that the MAJORITY of CM residents do NOT want THIS charter. Yet, instead of NOT putting it on the ballot, and wasting more of our money on this white elephant, here it is on the ballot, because that's what Righeimer wants!! It is also obvious that you do NOT know what is really going on here, or you just follow the opcgop party line blindly and do NOT think AT ALL for yourself; if you did, and you actually bothered to read and compare this "charter" with the ones of NB, HB, and Irvine, you would realize what a crock this "Rig it MY way charter" is... This is his/the ocgop's attempt to further his political career; it has NOTHING to do with taking care of CM or its residents!!

And to coffee break:
Are you serious?? That's just ridiculous...this starbucks and its drive-thru were FORCED on us eastside residents, who heavily opposed the drive-thru, but the developer buddies of the pc and 4 cc members got what they wanted instead...you must be one of them...nobody else would make such a false statement...
