Independence Day, 2012

ENJOY THE DAY
We here at A Bubbling Cauldron hope you all have a great Independence Day holiday.  Yeah, I know - you're bummed out about it falling on Wednesday this year which "robs you" of a long weekend, but you'll survive.  In exchange for that, our "all-wise" City Council has permitted fireworks sales for almost a week and we've been hearing the illegal ones being fired off since last weekend.  Please don't do what this bonehead did in our neighborhood a few years ago.  Have a safe, fun holiday.
FOR YOUR VIEWING PLEASURE
Today I'll leave you with some images and videos to mark this day.  I'm not sure when I'll post again, so you can just enjoy this entry the rest of the week.

 LIFE IN AFGHANISTAN
I'll close with a couple images of my 20 year-old great-nephew, Nathan, who is serving in the United States Army in Afghanistan, half-way through his first deployment.  He celebrated his birthday on May 1st by being attacked by enemy mortars for most of the day.  A good close look at those photos will give you an idea of what each day is like for him.  Please pray for his - and every American service members - safe return home.  They joined to serve us and deserve your support.

WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT
Have a safe holiday, and don't forget what it's all about, HERE.

I sure hope that the HBPD helicopters will adequately patrol CM, Newps, and their own town this 4th of July....

Just wanted to say that I had a great time over at Fitzy's neighborhood BBQ. That guy knows how to throw a swell 4th of July party, but was disappointed to learn that there would be absolutely zero tolerance for any talk about Twinkies. I had to bite my tongue and just enjoy the Snowballs, Ding Dongs & Chocodiles.

Fitzy, you are getting to those good ole boys at the Insanitary District. way to go.

I will contribute to your Legal Defense fund. Good luck getting 2 new candidates into office over there.

Community OS made up of common sense people. They can see what you are trying to do, and how poorly the other 4 Board Members are behaving.

I know you can loose some weight. Funny how they criticize you , when the others are bigger than you.

And, when you do lose weight, the Board Members, maybe Twinkie is one on the same, they will still be morons, and at least 2 of them will be out of jobs.

Art Perry emailed me asking for an endorsement. Ha. Boy has that good ole boy got a big fat lesson headed his way in November. Right upside his noggin.

I laughed and cried reading Chuck Cassity's first Daily Pilot column. The misrepresentations are many and very sad. Too many false assumptions to go into. You also have to love how he trashed every city around us focusing on their negatives and completely ignoring the many negatives we have here in Costa Mesa. If this is the level of honesty we shall see in his future columns then one should see them for what they are. In fact I have a suggestion on what to call his bi-Fridays columns. Chuck's Dilusional Fridays caused by too much Vino. But here is the most important thing to understand and watch for. Why is Chuck getting this gig now? Could it be he supports certain council members who are running for Costa Mesa City Council? Are they shoring up for bias press for the upcoming elections? We have just read how Chuck is willing to trash and misrepresent things to make his point. Sadly I suspect we will see much the same in his future columns only they will be political hit pieces or slobberings. Can you figure out who gets hit and who gets slobbered on?

  6. I believe the brand of Costa Mesa is strong. Chuck captured this well.

Dillusional , yes, Chuck is there to balance Harlan. You are very insightful.

CM4lol should make you their Captain of the Obvious. Although I doubt you will figure out several other tactics until December

Sorry dillusional, Cassity writes what the majority of voters agree with (at least according to the last 5 elections with the last being the biggie that should have given us a clue). And then there was the Mansoor primary landslide. WTF happened there? Is everybody besides us nuts? I know it hurts, I share your pain. But we can always read Harlan's columns for a hit piece on council. Always brightens up my day, I re-read them daily for strength. Then I get a realcharge watching public comments at council meetings. We may be in the minority but we are a LOUD minority. Feels good, there is always something to attack since nothing is perfect. We will never run out of stuff to complain about. If only the voters would agree with us then I would even like Cassity's column because I think CM is special too. If you need more moral support go to cm4rg.org, a place where you will find out plenty of stuff wrong with council, the whole content is anti council in fact. Beautiful stuff, all the good news filtered out, pure anti council. It makes me feel frustrated that all of CM doesn't see it and join us but we are reaching more everyday. Remember in November my friend.

  8. Dillusional,

I can only assume that your commentary is tongue-in-cheek, because there is not one single thing in Chuck's piece that is critical about Costa Mesa.

  9. Yeah! Let's all talk about Cassity and Mansoor to get attention off our OCGOP hero Bustamante!

Colon, You bring up Fitzy and the San Dist. Stevie, talk about football and how you really don't interact with cheerleaders. Ethan, bring up adult ed and how good your reading skills are. And definitely make some Krupp/dildo jokes!

They'll forget all about old BUSTA and not even ask how many times we all hung out with him!

  10. Nada from CM4lol7/07/2012 06:31:00 AM

Distractor is the new CM4lol strategist. After performing a poll he determined the best approach is to attack front runners on the punk BUSTA.

We think these guys remind us of the Star Wars bar scene.

When in High School, they developed an anger towards the popular crowd. So now with the internet, they can seek their revenge, in their head.

Can't wait to see who West picks as a winner so we can know who will lose.

  11. Distractor is correct. Bustamante is a local Hispanic CM politician who should be covered on this blog. and he comes from a charter city! Aha!! Speaking of charter cities I see in today's PILOT that the CA Supreme court just ruled on prevailing wage issue. Probably not important enough to mention on this blog as it has to do with charter cities and we are not a charter city. that's why no story Geoff?

  12. The Arms of Krupp7/07/2012 04:57:00 PM

Will Krupp be using pics of Colon, Mensy, and Monasham with OCGOP "rising" (wink) star Carlos Bustamante?

What was the exact political relationship between Bustamante and our Riggy?

  13. Geoff, thanks for preparing this moving tribute to our honored national holiday, Independence Day.

I think we can count the string of comments, few of which seem directly related to your post, a tribute to that beloved freedom, the freedom of speech.

My prayers for the safe return of your great-nephew and all our brave soldiers.

  14. Tamar,
Thanks for the good wishes for Nate. He's on leave in the states now, returning to Afghanistan later this month. Scary stuff.
Yes, the thread here seems almost completely inappropriate for the content of the message on this post. I guess that's what happens when folks are so full of venom that they just simply have to spit it somewhere. They're kind of like those clods who loudly pass gas in church, except here that mental flatulence is done with gutless anonymity.

  16. Silence would be worse than anonymity7/08/2012 01:15:00 PM

Geoff don't be too hard on us. Council has created an atmosphere where many people feel they can't disagree with them without getting some form of nasty retaliation.

The public gets chided, city employees berated, some eliiminated it's really shameful what is and has happened.

Steve Mandoki stood up to Mensinger over field allocations and he is now gone, Anna Telez stood up to him and she is gone, even Alan Roeder saw what was coming and now Rick Kirkbride has been shown the door because he didn't give them what they wanted.

On the reverse side of it if you are their patsy then you get promoted. Just look at the recent hiring of the new recreation manager. Does this guy have any experience in this field. He may be a great guy but being a coach doesn't make you qualified for a municipal recreation managers position. You can bet Mensinger will get his favored groups whatever they want now.

Then remember what they did with the Parks Commission. They eliminated dedicated active citizens and experienced Commissioners who both served as Chairpersons. Mike Brumbaugh and Kurt Galitski were replaced with Righeimer's campaign manager or whatever capacity he served.

And let's not forget the arm twisting to have the glider folks request a new paved runway that could act as parking for Pop Warner.

Just this weekend we learned that an elect a certain council member sponsor gets a gig at the Pilot. You would think Serna would be enough of a puppet for them. Guess not.

So in the atmosphere created by this council where they will chest bump you, file suit against you, flash a badge at you to threaten you and just the way they play the game I wouldn't be too hard on anonymity.

Maybe in the future when you are going to take a hiatus you might think to leave the good folks a scratch post to make their misc. comments. A hearty thank you to you either way for the time you put in providing a great forum. Without it a great deal of some of the truths and realities would be left to writers like Serna, Wu and Cassity. I don't feel very confident in any of those people.

But I want to end with a salute to your great nephew. I think 90 percent of us have someone very close to us involved or formerly involved in this effort. How many stories of fathers coming home to see their newborns for the first time do we see. The sacrifices these young men and women make are incredible. God Bless them all and your great nephew too.

  17. Silence....
I agree. And, yes, perhaps a scratch post would have been a great idea... next time. Thanks for participating.

  18. There are some cleverly funny people who participate on this blog. Geoff maybe a weekly SCRATCH POST is in order. You know comment on any thing you'd like and sharpen your claws or dull them at the same time. Brilliant!
    Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr!
